Trip to Fort Meigs By: Jared Bare Last Wednesday Mr. Miller took his American Conflicts class on a field trip to Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, Ohio. The class is based around all the wars America has participated in, so it was fitting to visit a battlefield right in our backyard. The trip started with a quick drive to the fort, and then the fun began. A tour guide led the group of around 30 to various locations in the fort. The main stops included blockhouses which were around the perimeter and served as posts for guards. Fort Meigs was originally built in 1813 and was never surrendered to the British. The construction took only three months and that is impressive for that time period. When it was reconstructed in the 70’s, it took almost three years. The only original part of the fort that remains are the “traverses”, or mounds, that served as a form of protection from cannon balls inside the fort. There is also a museum that features all kinds of artifacts found at the site that were found during the excavation. The class had a great time and really enjoyed McDonald’s on the way home! Powder Puff By: Rachel Winterfeld In the fifth annual powder puff game, the Seniors stomped out the Freshmen 22-6. The Sophomores beat the Juniors 14-8 in overtime. The Seniors moved on to the championship game vs. the Sophomores. The Juniors battled for third against the Freshmen. The score for the championship game was 22-12 in favor of the Seniors. The Juniors beat the Freshmen coming in third place 20-18.
