Go Boy & Vicky Smith ~New horses available for adoption~ HPAF took in two horses that were survivors of a murder/suicide in Chiefland, Florida in September. Thirty goats, seven dogs, a miniature horse and a burro were also killed. Three horses, two ponies, a cow and a few goats were left on the property unharmed. It is unknown why so many animals were killed or why some were spared. Pie is an approximately 2 year old filly who appears to be part Arabian and will likely be a large pony when full grown. Rosie is an adorable miniature horse, probably in her teens. She is sweet and has perfect manners. Rosie is an easy keeper and will need to be kept on a strict diet to prevent laminitis from developing. Both are seeking permanent homes. Pie Rosie In Honor of Linda Wittosch from Susan K. The calls are increasing from people who need to give away their horses because they can’t afford to keep them and haven’t been able to sell them. This morning alone, people called about two yearlings, a two year old, and a 12 year old Thoroughbred they need to give away. Almost every day we receive an email or phone call about a horse needing a home. Now that slaughter for human consumption has been stopped in the U.S., the value of horses has dropped even lower than it was before. The problem - too many horses being bred. The U.S. is overloaded with horses, which is why 100,000 horses a year have been going for horse meat bound for Europe and Japan. Americans have been overbreeding for so long that they have created an inexpensive meat source for other countries. Please, please do not create more horses by breeding your mare or stallion. Invest in training which will increase the value of the horses that you already have. Take in an unwanted young horse and give that horse the training and foundation that will make the horse a desired and valuable animal who has hope for a lifetime home. ~Reminder to Adopters~ Some of you forgot to send your August photos. Email is fine. hpaf@bellsouth.net Thanks, we appreciate the updates! 20690 NW 130 Avenue Micanopy FL 32667 Tel: 352/466-4366 Fax: 352/466-4072 www.hpaf.org Please help the horses!
