Fáilte chuig an Irish Redhead Convention 2015! A huge, heartfelt welcome to all redheads and friends of the foxies.
The year has flown by and we’ve been up to lots of exciting redhead things, like featuring Cork City’s St Patrick’s Day Parade,
creating our first music video, taking part in the Redhead Days (Breda, The Netherlands) and of course putting together this
gigantic and very exciting programme of redhead and ginger loving madness.
We are delighted to be working again this year with our charity partners, the Irish Cancer Society, who rely entirely on
voluntary donations to provide cancer care, research and support in Ireland. Please support this worthy cause.
As always, an enormous amount of work has been put in behind the scenes by our enthusiastic, creative and dedicated
voluntary team, without whom none of this would be possible. Huge gratitude to our partners,
sponsors and supporters, whose input has been invaluable.
Now it’s time to get the party started, so slap on lots of sunscreen and let’s celebrate our rare &
redhead beauty with a weekend you will never forget! We hope you enjoy what we have in store.
Yours, in genuine gingerness,
Joleen Cronin, xxx

Johnny’s Return
Once again the Irish Cancer Society is delighted to be the nominated charity for the
Irish Redhead Convention. This fantastic event raises awareness around skin cancer,
the most common cancer in Ireland and our sun smart campaign as well as raising
much needed funds.
The Irish Cancer Society is Ireland’s national cancer charity. The society provides
information, support and care to those with, and affected by, cancer all over Ireland.
Our services are professional, confidential and free of charge. We are almost entirely
funded through the generosity of the public and receive less than 5% government
funding.
Our message is to get out and enjoy the sun but, from April to September, whether
you are on the beach, playing sports, gardening or working outdoors be sun smart and
never let your skin redden or burn.

Or one of the most famous
redhead artists of all, Vincent
Van Gogh is said to have slashed
off his own ear in a fit of rage.
Van Gogh painted hundreds of
self portraits all showcasing his
flamboyant red beard and head
of red.
Red: A History of the Redhead is the first book to explore
the history of red hair and red-headedness throughout the
world. However, Red is more than a book for redheads, it
is the exploration of evolution and gene mutation, as well
as a compelling social and cultural study of how prejudice
and misconceptions of “other” evolve across centuries and
continents and are handed down through generations and
from one culture to another.
Join us for a light hearted
art history presentation and
discussion on these fun arty
facts and more hosted by art
teacher, author and redhead Aine
Andrews. Suitable for young and
old art historians alike.
Author Jacky Colliss Harvey presents a seminar on her
research including red hair throughout the ages and across
multiple disciplines, including science, religion, politics,
feminism and sexuality, literature, and art.
