We are really excited about the programme this year with many new fun additions including the world’s largest redhead ceili, a silent disco, informative redhead seminars, redhead photographic and painting exhibitions and some amazing musicians performing on the Foxygen & ElectRED picnic stages including Miles Graham, Orla Gartland and the infamous MOGO (Music of Ginger Origin) Awards! Throughout the festival, watch out for local Crosshaven residents wearing “Ginger Loving Local” badges all weekend, as we welcome redheads from around the globe to our beautiful village and local community. A massive thank you to the hardworking volunteer team Clodagh, Denis, Patrice, Pepi and Gary who put in hours and hours of work all year round to make this event possible and the 50+ volunteer team who will also join us this weekend. He will perform a flaming fanfare and musical tribute to his fellow redheads, from Cilla to Sonia and Lulu to Bette, alongside funny stories and tales of life as a young ginger lad growing up in Glasgow’s Castlemilk estate before making it big on Scotland’s favourite TV soap. Sillk Sunday, 4 - 5pm Sillk is a chamber folk trio featuring Orla Travers, Julian Halpin, and Chris Schmidt-Martin. They come from quite diverse creative backgrounds, including short fiction and theatre, and classical, traditional, and electronic music. The coming together of eclectic musical backgrounds, coupled with Orla’s songwriting, makes Sillk’s style hard to define. The songs they create contain stories that are innocent and dark, sweet and caustic, playful and threatening. Many are local faces that you are sure to recognise. Kerry graduated from Crawford college of Art and Design in 2002 and became the first recipient of the UTV Young Artist prize. Find out more on kerrycollins.ie The Irish Redhead Convention and super sculptor Lynn Kirkham would like to invite you to the auction of Mr Fox. Mr Fox will be going under the hammer on Sunday, 21st of August at the Irish Redhead Convention in Crosshaven. Bidding will start at 3:45 on Sunday afternoon with a reserve price of €6000. 5% of the proceeds of the sale will go to the Irish Cancer Society. This magnificent sculpture was built by artist Lynn Kirkham and welding extraordinaire Pepi Mara at Lynn’s Greenmantle Art studio in Co. Tipperary. Each of the 400+ pieces of steel plate were cold worked by hand to create this wonderfully detailed and unique piece. “The Irish Redhead” a talk with author Jacky Colliss Harvey Red: A History of the Redhead is the first book to explore the history of red hair and redheaded-ness throughout the world. However, Red is more than a book for redheads, it is the exploration of evolution and gene mutation, as well as a compelling social and cultural study of how prejudice and misconceptions of “other” evolve across centuries and continents and are handed down through generations and from one culture to another. Author Jacky Colliss Harvey will present two talks on her research. Photo Studio & Exhibition of Redhead Portraits by Jörg Köster Photographer Jörg Köster has snapped over a thousand individual red haired men, women and children for this portrait project, which features the full colour spectrum, ranging from strawberry blonde to flaming auburn. The ongoing photography project began five years ago when the advertising, fashion and food photographer by profession developed an interest in redheaded subjects after shooting Irish clothing products for German catalogues. An exhibition of 50 of these large scale portraits took place in both Cork and Dublin airport this year and can now be seen in Crosshaven Community Centre during the Convention.
