Newsletter for the families of
Dec 2014/Jan 2015 Volume 8, Issue 3
Winter is here! Cooler temperatures… disappearing daylight. As we join our family
and friends to celebrate this holiday season, I want to thank you for your extraordinary
support, dedication and commitment. This month marks the beginning of the holiday
season, a time that is filled with family and friends, festivities, fun, and food. It is a
time for counting our blessings, making happy memories with those we love, and
focusing on simple pleasures.
I have found over the years, and I’m sure you would agree, that children enjoy so very
much the little things we do with them around this time of year. And it’s the little things
we do as a family that make these days even more special. I genuinely hope that you
take time to enjoy the holiday season with your family. Sometimes, it can be a very
exciting but hectic time of year and we need to remember to slow down and relax. I
hope that you’ll take time to enjoy the simple pleasures of the season. Make a family
inspired meal together, create something special, take a leisure walk through the Fall
leaves, enjoy a family movie or snuggle up to a good book.

At WCSAT there are so many wonderful people and so many great things happening that it is easy to feel very thankful every day. Our students are so wonderful and
so much fun to be around, they work hard and take great pride in their learning. Our
teachers are so dedicated and creative in the work that they do with our students; they
are here at school long before school starts and long after the students leave for the day.
And of course all of you parents. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of the
volunteers that support our students and staff. On any given day, you can walk through
our classrooms and see parents and relatives reading with kids to support literacy, playing math games, hanging art work, making material for lessons, and assisting with the
many special events that we have throughout the year. Your contributions and support
are what makes our school so special, and you are making a difference in the lives
of our children. On behalf of the students and staff at Whitmore, I’d like to extend a
heartfelt thank you for all you do. It is no wonder that WCSAT is such a great place for
children to grow and learn, with all of us working together to make it the best it can be!
I would also like to take this time to thank our partners in education: Steve Fisher from
Horace Mann, Alex Shoob from Shoob Photography, and Del Ambris from Costless
Foods of Ceres.
If you ever have any concerns, questions, or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact me at (209) 556-1610 or you may email me at dviss@ceres.k12.ca.us.

The Fine Arts Team is always busy
in December and January.
On December 9th we had the
Middle School Winterfest which
included not only drama, but
dance, band and choir.
On December 16th the stuednts of
K-5 presented their Winter Concert. Students sang and presented
the “Polar Express”, all while
student art work was displayed.
Students are also rehearsing for
“Jungle Book, Kids” We will start
the new year with our focus totally
on that production. Think lots of
green and lots of monkeys and
elephants.
The evening shows will be on February 3rd and 5th, with shows on
the 4th for our Middle School and
other schools. Hope to see you in
the jungle!

Box Tops for Education
by Michelle Murphy
Please send all Box Tops to school with your
student at the end of each month. Cleanly cut and
placed in baggies of 50 is greatly appreciated.
Box Tops are collected monthly and tallied. The
winning class gets a sweet surprise. The overall
top earning class for the year earns an ice cream
party. Each Box Top is worth ten cents for our
school.

3rd Grade “Gets Googly”
Photos and article provided by Amanda Crawford
Mrs. Crawford’s class was the FIRST elementary
classroom to use Chrome books!!! Students were
able to access a video activity on Zaption.com
about subtracting using a number line.
A Google classroom has been set-up, where students can access their assignments. Students
have used this program to submit Google docs
that can be graded by the teacher.
Google has been an excellent addition to the
classroom. Students love using the chrome books
and we are looking forward to more lessons using
these fantastic tools.

Middle School Current Events
Students Engage in Mock Election
• Interact’s community service caroling project
was on December 17th at the Walnut Grove Senior
Care facility, where Interact students sang songs and
presented guests with cookies and conversation.
• Middle-School students are gearing up for the
Living Museum which will be introduced on January
30th. Look for golden rod colored packets that detail
the project! The final products are amazing and will
be presented in a live showcase on May 13th.
• Mrs. Knudsen’s homeroom class was the winner
of the Red Ribbon spirit week contest for MiddleSchool. Featured below is a photo of students who
participated on Crazy Hair Day. Middle School
students earned a pizza party lunch on December 5th!
6th-12th Grade students participated in a statewide
student mock election sponsored by the Secretary of
State.
Whitmore students voted on the same issues as the
adults and showed up to the polls in record numbers.
Whitmore mock election results were compared to official statewide election results.
The Whitmore community can view these comparisons in the form of pie charts in the main office front
window and outside of most middle school classrooms
through the first week of December.
