which to build a new Adoption and Discovery Center.
Our community can make a difference for animals as the
time has come for the animal shelter to move closer to
the community and provide our pets with more adequate
shelter and health care facilities.
The new acreage will be arranged like a village with open
space, grassy areas and paths joining the Adoption and
Discovery Center with the Memorial Gardens and outdoor
play and training spaces. Outdoor activities will be tucked
in the center of the campus protecting the surrounding
properties from views and sounds. Animals and their
human companions visiting the village for our new
services will encounter the positive, bright, and refreshing
atmosphere that we have begun at our current location.

Summer is finally here...
And with the warmer weather brings more visitors to are great Valley. So far this year we have had visitors from
Alaska, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio and Texas along
with our neighbor states Idaho and Oregon. Plus we’ve seen people from Canada, Germany and Scotland.
With the summer now upon us means the Visitor Information Center (VIC) has extended its hours. Memorial
Weekend our summer hours started with the VIC being open from 10 am to 4 pm every Saturday through Labor
Day Weekend. We are always looking for volunteers to cover the weekend shift, so if you would like to volunteer
to help visitors when they come into the Visitor Center, please give me a call. We have two 3-hour shifts (10 am to
1 pm and 1 to 4 pm). Just one of the benefits of volunteering is the chance to meet people from all over the world.

Again this year, the Hells Canyon Visitor Bureau is promoting the “Hells Canyon Treasure Hunt”. Handcrafted glass floats
are placed at several locations in Hells Canyon, local RV resorts and campgrounds for visitors to find. Once they find their
“treasure” they come back into the VIC and pick up their certificate of authenticity and have their photo taken. It is always great to
hear about their trip here and into Hells Canyon and how they found the glass float.

Just a reminder to set your alarm clocks early on Wednesday, June 13 as our general membership luncheon is moving to BREAKFAST at 7 am at the
Quality Inn & Suites. And if the weather is permitting we will be out on the deck. Last summer we started the breakfast meetings and I know it was
enjoyed by all to be sitting outside and having breakfast with friends and colleagues. I hope you can join us again this year for our breakfast meeting
on June 13, July 11 and August 8.

have a teammate for support.
Late fee after June 23 is $15 per
team. Awards to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd,
and 4th place teams.
An Interval Relay Race is a team
event where runners choose to
run distances of personal choice,
instead of the standard method of
running designated legs between
exchange points. Runners may
exchange the baton at any time,
or any order, running as short,
or as long a distance as you may
desire. This makes for more team
participation, with strategies like
putting fast runners on the flats,
strong runners on the hills, and
sprinters near the finish.

Hells Canyon AED Fundraiser
June 8, 2007
Beamers Hells Canyon Tours™ is hosting a fundraiser dinner to obtain
Automated External Defibrillators (AED) for the visitors of Hells Canyon. All of
the outfitters, guests and residents of Hells Canyon deserve access to these
lifesaving devices. Beamers Hells Canyon Tours™ has received a small grant
for the AEDs and will house them at Heller Bar, Copper Creek and the last will
be a mobile unit that will travel into the canyon daily on the Day Tour.
The Hells Canyon AED Fundraiser is on June 8, 2007 at 6 pm at the Quality Inn
& Suites in Clarkston, WA, it will include dinner, 50/50 raffle, door prizes and
entertainment. The cost is $35 per person and corporate sponsorship tables
are available for $350.

Registration is a donation of four (4) cans
of food for the Asotin Co. Food Bank. The
first 150 vehicles will be guaranteed a
dash plaque.
Cool Ride Cruise
7 – 9 pm
The weekend starts off with a “Cool Ride
Cruise” on Friday, June 22 from 7 to 9 pm.
Come out and enjoy an evening of classic
cars, trucks and motorcycles that will be
cruising slowly in downtown Clarkston.
This is a chance for classic car enthusiast
to put on a “Memories Cruise” for the area
residents. If you don’t have a “Cool Ride”,
then remember to bring your lawn chairs
and sit back and enjoy the show.
At this year’s show there will be the
always popular Poker Walk and 50/50
drawing, which is always open to the
public to participate in.
The public is invited to donate cans of
food also. Help us make this a great
community food drive!!

Potlatch Corp. was named a corporate sustainable standard setter by
the Rainforest Alliance in New York City.
Potlatch was honored for advancing the goals of the alliance, which
include conserving biodiversity and ensuring sustainable livelihoods by
changing land-use and business practices.
The real estate investment trust has earned Forest Stewardship Council
certification for all its long-held core forestry operations and most
of its lumber mills,
according to a news
release issued by the
alliance.
Potlatch has also
planted more than
190 million trees since

“We are encouraged by the expansion of a greener culture at Potlatch
that is helping tip global markets toward sustainability,” said Tenise
Whelan, the alliance’s executive director, in a prepared statement.

Rockin’ on the River
Saturday, July 21, 2007 promises to be a day of fun and great music for
the entire family! Sounds of some of the best music in the Northwest will
fill Gateway Golf Center in Clarkston, Washington at the 6th annual
Rockin’ on the River event!
Tickets can be purchased online at www.ticketswest.com or call (800) 325SEAT (7328).
Parking: $2 per car. Parking services to be provided by the Asotin Lions
Club. All proceeds
will be reinvested
in the community
by the Lions Club.

Gates open at 3 pm, with the first band starting at 4 pm and music all
evening long until 10 pm!
In addition, there will be fabulous food from local restaurants and
caterers! Beer, hard lemonade and wine by the glass will also be available.
No outside food or drink allowed.
Tickets are $15 for an Adult and $40 for a family (good for two adults and 3
children ages 6 – 12), Children 5 and under are free.
