Dear Members of the Dover-Sherborn Community,
I’m excited to introduce you to our K-12 Fine & Performing Arts
Department! In the Spring of 2015, the School Committees of Dover,
Sherborn, and the Region approved the first-ever K-12 Fine & Performing
Arts Department Chair and the creation of a K-12 Department.
Collaborative work among the Arts faculty has been ongoing for many
years resulting in the development of the General Music Curriculum, Visual
Arts Curriculum, and multiple district-wide music events featuring students
from all four schools. Recognition as a K-12 Department will increase
collaboration and communication among the Arts faculty and will insure
that all students continue to receive high quality instruction in the creative
arts.
We have many exciting events on the calendar this year including the
Dover-Sherborn Arts Homecoming in October, two District-Wide Music
Events, and much more! We hope you will join us! If you would like to learn

Darren Buck
Visual Arts
High School
Janice Barry is the K-12 Fine Arts Department Chair for
Dover-Sherborn. She is a General Music Teacher and Band
Director at Chickering where she has been teaching for 7
years. She conducts the Chickering 4th and 5th Grade Band,
Chickering Strings, and the 5th Grade Jazz Band. Janice
earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education
from Penn State and her Master of Music in Music Education
degree from Boston University. In 2015, she completed an
Administrative Licensure Program through The Education
Cooperative and Boston University. After winning a contest
on Twitter, Janice met conductor Keith Lockhart and led the
Boston Pops in the playing of Stars and Stripes Forever in
Symphony Hall.
Outside of school, Janice serves on the Worship Team at Faith
Community Church of Hopkinton playing violin and piano.
She volunteers her time as a board member for the
Hopkinton Running Club and likes to train for half marathons
and marathons. Janice enjoys reading and relaxing at her
home in Hopkinton with her husband Mike.
Darren Buck is a Visual Arts Teacher at the High School
where he has taught Computer Graphic Design and
Silkscreen Printing for 11 years. He is organizing the firstever Dover-Sherborn Arts Homecoming on October 2, 2015,
which will feature graduates of DS with careers in the Arts.
Darren earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Advertising
Design at Syracuse University and his Master’s of Science
degree in Art Education from the Massachusetts College of
Art and Design. Darren is a professional printmaker and
owner of Honolulu Ghost Print Shop where he designs and
creates hand-pulled screen-printed posters. He is also the
lead singer in The Hank Wonder Trio and Duke Baxter Band.
Before returning to his alma mater to teach Visual Art, Darren
spent a decade singing and acting in New York City. While
there, he received training from numerous Broadway
veterans, performed in legendary theaters and nightclubs,
and worked as an illustrator and graphic designer.
When he’s not at school, Darren enjoys printmaking,
songwriting, and performing. He lives in Arlington with his
wife and two children.
Daniel Davis, who has taught private lessons for the region since 2009
and began directing the band program at Pine Hill Elementary School
in 2014, holds a Master of Music degree and a Performer’s Certificate
from the Eastman School of Music, as well as a Bachelor of Music
degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He has also taught for
a number of years in the public school lesson programs of Westwood
and Shrewsbury, MA. As an educator of students at a variety of levels,
he has been adjunct professor of trumpet at Grand Valley State
University (MI) and Radford University (VA), taught contemporary
music and improvisation at the Pennsylvania and North Carolina
Governor’s Schools, and taught trumpet and played with the resident
faculty brass quintet at the Hochstein School of Music and Dance (NY).

As a performer, he has played with the Beijing Symphony Orchestra,
Rochester Philharmonic, North Carolina Symphony, Winston-Salem
Symphony, Palm Beach Opera, and as soloist with the Eastman Wind
Orchestra, the Newton Symphony Orchestra (MA), and three times
with the Greece Symphony Orchestra (NY). Together with his wife, Dr.
Erica Johnson, Daniel has performed a number of trumpet and organ
recitals in both the United States and Canada, including recent concert
performances at the Memorial Church of Harvard University and First
Parish of Norwell. He has participated as an ensemble performer for
three recent Naxos CD releases with the Buffalo Philharmonic
Orchestra, one recording receiving Grammy awards in two categories.
He has also toured Japan, Taiwan, and Macao while performing and
recording with the Eastman Wind Ensemble.
Tom Duprey is a General Music Teacher and Band Director at the
Middle School where he has taught for 16 years. He directs the 6th
Grade and 7th & 8th Grade Concert Bands, The Sharp9 Big Band,
and oversees the HS student-directed 6th Grade Jazz Eclipse. Tom
has over 25 years of experience as a private trumpet teacher and
music educator. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Music
Education and Trumpet Performance with a Minor in Literature
from the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, NY. He went right
onto his Master’s degree in Jazz Studies Composition at the New
England Conservatory. After graduating from NEC in 1988, Tom
worked a few years in different office jobs to feed his habit of
modern jazz and composition where he played such venues as The
Knitting Factory and The Kool Jazz Festival in Saratoga Springs. His
trumpet freelancing career includes performing and recording with
the likes of Dionne Warwick, Johnny Mathis, Tommy Tune,
Amanda Palmer and Serj Tankian of System of a Down fame, as
well as with his current modern jazz group TickleJuice, led by
friend and fellow NEC grad, James Merenda. He has spent the last 4
years as an instructor at the Foxboro Jazz Improvisation Camp
where he coaches small jazz groups and teaches master classes.
Tom is an assistant coach for the DSHS Cross Country team and
DSHS Track team. He likes to run, hike, ski in the Winter, and
perform and write music all year round. He also enjoys spending as
much time as possible with his wife Susan, children Izzi and
Graham, dog Bentley and cat Natty Bumppo in Medfield.
Geoffrey Herrmann is the Choral Director at the Middle and High
School and a General Music Teacher at the Middle School. He
conducts the 6th Grade Chorus, 7th & 8th Grade Chorus and
High School Vocal Ensemble. After only one year at DS, Geoffrey
began an after school chorus section for High School students
and served as Musical Director for the Middle and High School
musicals. He received both his Bachelor of Music in Voice
Performance and Master of Music in Choral Conducting from
UMass Amherst. He has studied with tenor William Hite,
conductor Tony Thornton, and performed in a master class with
John Oliver, founder and conductor of the Tanglewood Festival
Chorus.

Kelly Hodge

Geoffrey currently performs with Entertaining for a Cure and
serves on the Worship Team for the First Baptist Church of
Weymouth. In college, he was a member of the UMass Doo Wop
Shop, UMass Chamber Choir, UMass Opera Workshop, and
starred in a student opera at Amherst College titled The Epic of
Gilgamesh. Geoffrey studied dance at the Harney Academy of
Irish Dance and performed in The Garden of Martyrs for its
premiere at the Amherst Opera House. Geoffrey lives in Braintree
with his wife, Lisa, who is an elementary music teacher for the
Braintree Public Schools.
Kelly Hodge is a K-5 General Music Teacher and Choral Director for
Grades 4 and 5 at Pine Hill. She leads the weekly All School Meeting,
which involves creating an agenda and script, rehearsing with Student
Council members, and rehearsing with individual classes. Kelly is also a
mentor for the Acting Confident class, which meets in the fall. Kelly has
taught at Pine Hill for 6 years, but has 12 years of experience in Music
Education. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from
the University of New Hampshire with Minors in Music and Theatre.
Kelly began her career as a professional singer and actor in the New York
area. She was cast in a variety of shows including reviews at Hershey
Park in PA, Dollywood in TN and stage plays in Wisconsin, Florida, and
New York. She also traveled extensively as a performer for Silversea
Cruiseline. After several years of performing and traveling, Kelly chose to
pursue her love of the arts through teaching. She then earned her Master’s
Degree in Music Education from Hunter College of The City University of
New York and began teaching music in Mount Vernon, NY.
Kelly is a freelance vocal performer and teaches private voice lessons
throughout the school year. She founded the Woodland Theatre
Company with her husband and has performed in numerous local theatre
productions. Kelly volunteers her time on the board of the Friends of the
Sherborn Library and is responsible for hiring and managing all music
needs for their Winterfest, Arts and Crafts Fair and annual Summer
Concert Music Series. Kelly is a proud resident of Sherborn with her
husband, son, and cat. She loves to read, walk, and socialize with friends.
She also loves cooking, cooking shows, reading about cooking, and
eating.
Julie Law-Linck is a PK-5 General Music Teacher and Choral
Director for Grades 3 - 5 at Chickering. She has 13 years of
experience in Music Education and began teaching at DS in 2014.
Julie earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education with
a concentration in French Horn performance and her Master of Arts
degree in Music Education with a concentration in Interdisciplinary
Teaching and Learning from the University of New Hampshire. Julie
has completed two levels of Orff-Schulwerk training and is certified
in Conversational Solfege Levels 1 and 2. Julie previously taught
Elementary General Music at the Pentucket Regional School District
and most recently was a Kindergarten Music Specialist in
Foxborough. She has been a Music Together teacher, church
organist, and piano accompanist for music theatre and recitals. Julie
also maintained a private piano lesson studio for 20 years.

Julie lives in her hometown of Foxborough with her husband,
children Mabel and Elliot, and a variety of hamsters, parakeets, and
cats. She loves gardening and reading and is learning to sew. She
loves supporting her children in activities and can often be found in
the minivan between soccer practices and art classes. She cares
deeply about teaching elementary school music because she
believes the expression and experience of music leads us to
discover truly unique perspectives and more meaningful
understandings of our world. Robert Martel is a Music Teacher and Band Director at the Middle
and High School. He teaches 6th grade General Music, Guitar I,
Guitar II, and directs the Concert Band and Jazz Band at the High
School. Robert earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music
Education from the Boston Conservatory and his Master of Arts
degree in Music Theory from the University of Connecticut. Robert
has 36 years of experience in Music Education and has spent the
last 28 years at DS. He began his career teaching music for four
years in Somers, CT followed by four years in Brookline. As a
guitarist, Robert performs with Enigmatica and A Composers’ Duo
with mandolinist Marilynn Mair. He has also performed with The
Castle Heights Guitar Duo, Music For A While, and the Providence
Mandolin Orchestra. Bob is also a composer and his works have
been performed and recorded in the US, Canada, Brazil, Australia
and several countries in Europe.
Robert Martel

Robert enjoys herb gardening, cooking, reading, and the pursuit of
fine wines. He is a budding genealogist and an avid hockey fan.
Kristin Osiecki
Visual Arts
High School
Kristin Osiecki is a Visual Arts Teacher at the High School and has
been at DS since 2012. She is the instructor for Digital
Photography, Darkroom Photography, Sculpture, AP & Honors
Studio Art, as well as the advisor for the Art Club. Kristin earned her
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from the Rhode
Island School of Design (RISD). Kristin led RISD’s student outreach
group and organized volunteering efforts at a youth center in
Providence. The outreach group painted murals, built concrete
benches, and helped students with homework. After spending four
years working as a professional Graphic Designer, her volunteer
experiences led her back to RISD to complete a Master of Arts
degree in Teaching. She is currently working toward a Master of
Education degree in Technology and Innovation in Education at the
Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Outside of school, Kristin is a freelance graphic designer, illustrator,
photographer, and a volunteer game artist. Her work has been
published in The New York Times, New York Magazine, People
Magazine, The Boston Phoenix, and The Providence Journal. She
resides in Cambridge and loves to travel, kayak, attend cultural
events in the arts, and spends time working on different art projects
and learning new skills.
Sue Pelletier
Visual Arts
Chickering
Sue Pelletier is a K-5 Visual Arts Teacher at Chickering School with
over 30 years of experience in Art Education. She leads an Art
Expressions Group at Chickering, which supports the needs of
students and promotes wellness through visual art. Sue earned her
Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Fine Arts at St.
Michael’s College and her Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting at
the Pratt Institute. Sue is a working artist and has taught and led
mixed media art workshops around the country for the past 8 years.
In May 2015, Sue published a book titled Collage, Paint, Draw with
F&W Publishing, which is the largest arts and crafts publisher in the
country. She is also featured on two DVD’s available through
Interweave Press where she teaches mixed media techniques. Her
work has been published and featured on the cover of art
magazines including Cloth, Paper, Scissors and Somerset Studios.
Sue’s artwork has also been on exhibit throughout the country and
included in private collections around the world. She blogs about
her art at www.suepelletierlaughpaint.com.
Sue lives in Medway with her dog, Murrie, and has two children
who are both attending the University of Vermont. In her spare
time, Sue likes to read, take her dog to a dog park, and work on her
second book, which is a children’s book.
Margaret Primack
Visual Arts
Middle School
Margaret Primack is a Visual Arts Teacher at the Middle
School. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree and is a
certified K-12 Art Educator in Massachusetts. With over
40 years of experience, Margaret has taught in schools
on the island of Borneo and throughout Massachusetts.
Her approach to art education and wish for her
students is that they “Find Out How Creative You Can
Be.”
Outside of school, Margaret enjoys painting and
creating book illustrations. She likes deep sea fishing,
gardening, and wild mushroom hunting. Margaret has
also been a judge for the Massachusetts High School
Speech and Debate tournaments.
Sarah Richards
Visual Arts
Pine Hill
Sarah Richards is a K-5 Visual Arts Teacher at Pine Hill
where she also offers after school enrichment classes to
her students. She earned her Associate of Arts degree
from Bard College at Simon’s Rock, her Bachelor of
Arts degree in Art Education from Framingham State
University, and her Master of Science degree in Arts
Management from Lesley University. With 29 years of
experience in Art Education, Sarah has spent the past
28 years at DS. Sarah also has experience teaching at
the Science Discovery Museum and the summer
program at Minuteman Career and Technical High
School. Sarah enjoys living a healthy lifestyle, yoga, and
gourmet cooking.
Cathy Simino
Visual Arts
Middle School
Cathy Simino is a Visual Arts Teacher at the Middle School where
she has been teaching for 16 years. She leads an after school Art
Club, an 8th grade Citizen Action Group, and is a member of the
MLK committee where she organizes school-wide art activities for
the Middle School’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration.
Cathy earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Education
with a concentration in Ceramics from UMass Dartmouth and her
Master of Education degree in Art Education from Framingham
State University. She also studied painting at the Pont Aven
School of Art in Brittany, France. Prior to DS, Cathy worked as a
preschool teacher and introduced art units to students ages 3-5.
Cathy has also designed and implemented lessons for elementary
school students and senior citizens emphasizing intergenerational
collaboration. Cathy is a professional studio artist with a focus on
ceramics, drawing, and painting.
Outside of school, she likes to go hiking, biking, and enjoys
playing her alto saxophone. She lives in Franklin with her
husband Andrew and children Isabelle (7) and Allison (4). Cathy
looks forward to the Middle School’s Arts Festival every year and
is always impressed by the thoughtfulness that goes into each
piece of student work.
Hannah (Potts) Wright is a Visual Arts teacher at the High
School. She teaches Ceramics I & II, Drawing from Life, and
Yearbook Design I, II, & III. Hannah also serves as the Yearbook
Advisor and Co-Advisor for the Class of 2017. Hannah has been
teaching at DS for 6 years including one year as a Special
Education Teaching Assistant at the High School. Hannah
earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a Major in Art
Education and a Minor in Art History at UMass Amherst. She is
currently working on her Master of Education degree in Art
Education at Framingham State University. Hannah always
knew she wanted to be a teacher and was inspired by her high
school art teacher to study Art Education.
Hannah Wright
Visual Arts
High School
Hannah married her husband James in July 2015 and lives in
Holliston. She loves reading, cooking, drawing, and painting.
Hannah enjoys traveling to Cape Cod, watching New England
sports, and spending time with family and friends.
