Remembrance Day Assembly
Remembrance Day
On Wednesday, November 11th beginning at 10:45 a.m. at the Church
there will be a school gathering to reflect and remember the people who
fought and lost their lives for us.
The grade 7/8 and grade 8 class will be walking to the cenotaph to pay
their respects.
Poppies will be available for our students. Donations for the Royal Canadian Legion would be much appreciated.

Professional Activity Day.
There is NO SCHOOL for students.
St. Anne School Fundraiser
Norcard orders will begin to arrive soon. Thank-you to
everyone who participated in this year’s fundraiser. This
year we raised approximately $8000.00!
This is our school’s main fundraiser for the year. The
money raised directly benefits your child(ren). It is used to
help off set transportation and agenda costs, graduation,
Sacraments, Scientists in School, technology, guest
speakers and Christmas lunch costs.

Student – Parent – Teacher Interviews
Interviews will be held Wednesday, November 5th and during the evening. Confirmation of your times will be sent home with
your child’s Progress Report.
We ask that once you have been scheduled a time that you let the school know if you are unable to attend. We will try to find
another suitable time for you and your child’s teachers to meet.
Parents of JK and SK students
The Junior and Senior Kindergarten children will not receive the Provincial Progress report this term. Individual observation
sessions will be set up by the teachers for the end of November. Formal report cards will be sent home in February for our
Senior Kindergarten students and for both Junior and Senior Kindergarten in June.

Knowing that winter is just around the corner, it is a good idea to review cancellation notices and where to find them.

Transportation Services. Non-bus students will be dismissed only at normal dismissal times, either at lunch or end of the school day.

The Safe School Team
Members of our Safe Schools/Pastoral team are: Mrs.

Penny. She will be talking about our role as
leaders in helping the environment.
*We will be holding our own “Random Acts
of Kindness” throughout the week
*Wear green on Monday Nov. 16th for our
leadership in taking care of the Earth, wear
pink on Nov. 20th to raise awareness and take
a stand against bullying and wear blue on
Nov. 20 for peace.
*Staff will be exploring a new website and
using some lessons from www.reallifeonline.ca .
*We will also be having a poster contest for
students to design our monthly certificates
with the theme “We are One”.
What’s Happening @ St. Anne…….
*St. Anne’s financial report will be posted on the community bulletin board. This demonstrates the projected money that will
be collected and disbursed this school year for student-related activities. A copy is also attached to this newsletter.
*Our first session of Strong Start will begin in January with our grade 1’s. You can read more about Strong Start on its

will finish later this month.

Include Tasty and Healthy Snacks at School!
Make sure to include enough food in your child’s lunch bag for a healthy snack. It is important for children to eat at least one
healthy snack at school every day. Children’s growing bodies need lots of nutrients, which they often don’t get enough of from
their three main meals. The WCDSB Elementary Food and Nutrition Policy states that students will have opportunities to eat
healthy snacks during appropriate instructional time throughout the school day.
Try these lip-smacking snack ideas:
~Air-popped popcorn sprinkled with parmesan cheese and 100% fruit juice
~Homemade carrot, oatmeal or bran muffins and milk
~Lower fat cheese cubes with grapes and melon slices
~Whole grain, low sugar cereal and milk
~Clementine sections and a yogurt drink
~Broccoli ‘trees’ and red pepper rings with hummus
~Pineapple and watermelon chunks with vanilla yogurt
The School Board is aware that a new product marketed as SchoolSafe SoyButter Spread has become
available to consumers.
According to this specific product’s promotional materials the product “tastes just like peanut butter [and] was designed and
developed to protect the millions of kids and adults who suffer from life threatening peanut and tree nut allergies”. There may
be other similar peanut butter substitute products currently on the market as well.
While the good intentions behind the development of such products certainly can’t be argued, allowing students to bring the
product into a school in which a student is known to be allergic to peanuts / peanut butter is problematic and could potentially
have devastating consequences.
Right now, administrators, staff and volunteers know immediately what to do if / when a student arrives at school with a
peanut butter sandwich. Precautions to protect allergic students are instantly taken. However, should a food product that
looks, smells and tastes like real peanut butter (but isn’t real peanut butter) be permitted in a school it places administrators,
staff and volunteers in a position of having to decide definitively if the product is – or isn’t – real peanut butter.
Board staff members are not qualified food experts and are in no position to make such decisions -- particularly where
exposure to real peanut butter can literally cause someone’s death. Therefore all peanut butter substitutes must be treated in
the same manner as real peanut butter and cannot be allowed in schools. Thank you for your understanding and helping to
keep our students safe.
Parking Lot Reminders
In order to help keep our students safe please remember to follow these rules:
*Be sure to follow the one-way arrows that are painted on driveway
*Please do not pull in the driveway and then back out the entrance in order to turn around
*Do not block the entrance of the driveway to drop your children off or pick them up. This causes
cars to try and squeeze in around you and they cannot see if students are trying to cross.
*Please do not park on the opposite side of the street on Chalmers. There is no parking there and
cars cannot drive safely down the street.
Technology Update!
Did you know that we have over 75 Chromebooks available for your children to
use? They are being used in all corners of the building! Ask your children what they
use a Chromebook for...you might be surprised!

Green Team News
Our first Litter less lunch was a tremendous success! Thank you for all your efforts
in helping to reduce our garbage at lunchtime. Congratulations to Ms. Haas’ grade 2/3
class who only had 76g of garbage! We will be having another Litter less lunch day on
Wednesday, November 25. The challenge is on to win our trophy!
On Monday, November, 16th we will welcome Down to Earth for presentations. Loretta
Penny has travelled the world extensively and is coming to share her knowledge and
personal experiences about how beautiful the earth is and what we need to do to protect it. She will speak to
the Early Years/Primary classes in the morning about the Amazon Rainforest and the Junior/Intermediate
classes about ways to save and care for the earth. There is an interactive hands-on display for students
after the presentation. There will also be small items for sale that range in price from $1 to $20. Further
information will follow.
Congratulations St. Anne School!!
St. Anne School was selected as the 2015 Connected School Award winner for our participation in Say Hi
Day on Thursday, Sept 24. This award is given to one school from each school board that registered for Say
Hi Day. Winners are randomly selected from all schools that participated.
The Connected School Award comes with a glass award and a $500 bursary for our school to use in the way
we feel best promotes the spirit of Say Hi Day (guest speaker, school resources, school activity). We are
currently arranging a time for representatives to come to the school to present the award and cheque at a
student assembly.
