In keeping with Balinese design, DLD blended the interior and exterior of the
home, and used the same wooden wall cladding both inside and out. The owners
required flexibility for entertaining that allowed for small intimate areas, such as this
sophisticated champagne lounge, as well as larger areas for big events.

above: The brief here was to blur the
boundary between the indoors and outdoors.
Consequently, material choices were important.
The use of granite, concrete, wood and steel
gave MHC Building Contractors the opportunity
to create a contemporary structure of timeless
appeal, overcoming the challenge of achieving
large cantilevers with minimal support.

construction, wrapped in a wavy metallic finish
known as African print. The cabinet top and the
wall behind it are covered with a bronze mirror.
Kitchen Emporium was responsible for the builtin cabinetry and vanities in the house, as well as
for the design, manufacture and installation of
the bespoke kitchen.

ith a view over the picturesque Cape Peninsula from almost every room, this
contemporary home is the epitome of style, comfort and elegance.
The design of the house is focused on easy living – a sparkling pool for hot
summer days, and cosy fireplaces for those chilly winters. It also offers the home
owners a chance to experience every “mood” of the peninsula: spectacular summer sunrises,
grey winter storms, colourful autumns and the fresh, crisp mornings of spring.
Proximity to their chosen school and privacy from surrounding neighbours made this the ideal
spot for the owners. The elevation and views across the peninsula were an added bonus, together
with the large erven, which allow a lifestyle many can only dream of; some plots are large enough
even to allow paddocks for horses.
Walking up the driveway will take you to a beautiful koi pond, where a serene atmosphere
prevails. This Eastern influence is carried into the interior of the home – inspired by the home
owners’ travels through Bali, China and Thailand – with the use of fire, water and natural elements
such as steel, glass and marble. Their vision was to create a home where the inside and outside
elements merge. It is modern, warm and homely.
Through their travel experiences, the owners had a good idea of the style they wanted, and
Kings Cross Properties, the concept design company which oversaw the project, understood this.
Many finishes and built-in feature areas were custom-designed for the spaces. The architectural
design, courtesy of DLD Architects, offers wide-open spaces with beautiful wooden floors.
Downstairs, the open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining room flow seamlessly into one another, and
outside to the pool. Glass windows surround the area, allowing ample light into the home and
breathtaking views of the surrounding natural beauty. There is also a fully equipped study, and a

automation system by The Modern Group is one
of the outstanding features of this home. The
client wanted to be able to use his iPad to control
lights, AV and security in a single app. Creston
wall docking stations for iPads were installed, and
Schneider C-BUS was used for lighting control.

Calore Sustainable Energy, a specialist in eco-friendly and
energy-efficient heating systems. As the home required
a heating solution for a very large open space, Calore
supplied the Piazzetta ME120/48 closed-combustion
wood-burning fireplace with the exclusive Multifire
system for even heat distribution. This fireplace is
beautifully finished off in starlight black technistone,
bringing an element of grandeur to the room.

is a sleek space with a particularly beautiful view of the entire peninsula.
Built-in cupboards, fronted by black sliding doors, allow for ample storage
space, and padded seating is used to create an informal dining area.
The decor aims to create a clean, uncluttered look, with a few
antiques and “romantic” pieces, such as the chandelier in the
champagne lounge and the gilded chairs and mirror in the dressing
room, bringing in an element of glamour. The champagne bar is the

owner’s favourite room, as it is an intimate area which allows her to
spend quality time with friends.
Upstairs, the main bedroom enjoys a bird’s-eye view of the pool,
with the feeling that you are “floating” above the peninsula. With
stylish wallpaper, neutral tones and a pyjama lounge, together with a
sophisticated dressing-room and bathroom with elegant bathtub and
shower, it offers the perfect respite after a busy day.
The other bedrooms, also en suite, are equally stylish, decorated in
shades of grey and textured wallpaper.
