Planting, ploughing and drainage amounted to some 500 hectares per year. 1980-1986 Mitchell Trust & Cheviot Forestry Consultants Ltd Originally the job started as forest manager at Kyloe wood, a 400 ha wood in Northumberland of international silvicultural interest. DELFA, a local forestry co-operative with a sawmill, was a joint employer. Financial pressures were such that I concentrated on outside work for about half my time. This was successful and in 1986, when Kyloe wood was sold, Cheviot Forestry Consultants Ltd was viable in its own right and wholly owned by me. Savills, an international firm of property agents, purchased my business in 1986. 1986-1988 FPD Savills Plc I was mainly involved in the agency from the Edinburgh office. Although all sides worked very hard, the client base did not expand and it was agreed that the previous working arrangement was better. I left Savills in 1988 to start Border Consultants.
