Puppy Rosco was abandoned near our shelter, but thanks to your continuing support,
we were able to take in and nurture this precious pup, getting him all ready for adoption.
We are so grateful for your help. It is expensive to take care of all of our rescues!

Dear Friends and Supporters,
Even with the financial struggle we are having, it is our pleasure to
bring to you some happy news about so many adoptions in the last
few months. We were so excited to place 10-year-old Golden
Retriever George with a previous Straydog adopter. George is very
happy and content to have four kids to hang out with, play ball with,
and go for rides with on his family's ranch! Cher also went to the
same wonderful home. We have lucky dogs and lucky families!
Also, Mother Belle and four more of her lab/pyre pups--Gus, Noel,
George is a happy camper. He's going
Pola and Ollie--have all found great loving homes! (Who will be the
to go with the kids out to check
the cows on his family's ranch!
lucky families to get the last two of Belle's pups, Elsa and Scoobie?)
You'll see the stories of Ike and Duncan's adoptions in this newsletter. And more good news--Shim,
Squirrel and RV have all found their loving forever homes in the last two weeks! Archie also found a
mom recently and both Mom and Archie are very happy.
Heidi and Lee, the two Daschunds who needed to be together, found a loving mom in October. Mom is
thrilled to have them both. Mom reports that Heidi will sleep on her bed, but only after checking that
Lee is alright for the evening. Lee wants to curl up with his stuffy toys in his doggie bed.
Duncan and his new mom
chat on the porch.
This is one of five different stuffy toys
that Lee carried around during
our home visit at his adoption
on October 21, 2012.
Heidi, Lee's companion,
showed us she liked getting
up on the couch during the
home visit/adoption.
We have rescued four more fellas since our last Newsletter. You can read about Puppy Rosco being
found by our dumpster on page 11. Yellow Lab Mike was rescued near Straydog too, and is very shy
and just learning to trust humans. We took in a small special-needs terrier mix named Eldee, who will
need a special home. Puppy Wup is the most recent abandoned puppy we took in. He was diagnosed
with Parvo and recovered at Dr. Morton's clinic. Wup is well now, and back home at Straydog!
Thanks to you, our wonderful supporters, we can care for ALL of our residents at Straydog, giving
them the love and medical care they need. We appreciate so much your sending much needed
donations to either Straydog, PO Box 1465, Gun Barrel City, TX., 75147 or directly to our Straydog
account at Morton Small Animal Clinic, PO Box 1356, Athens, Tx 75751. We are at the vet clinic
several times a week, as we have many dogs in our care. Thank you, Dr. Morton and staff for your
great work, your discounts and account for Straydog, and always being there for our dogs (and cats).

There are so many blessings to count and people to thank! We know
that there isn't enough space to specifically thank everyone in a
Newsletter, but we can't give enough thanks to ExploreUSA, our
premier sponsor in our recent Golf Tournament fundraiser. ExploreUSA
also funded a Matching Gift drive, which many of you participated in.
Our monthly supporters, our dedicated volunteers, those of you who
help us specifically with our vet bills or other projects, or even with a
one-time donation--we are so grateful for your support, and thank
everyone from the bottom of our hearts. There are two more special
thank yous we'd like to write about here in this newsletter. Many thanks
to Canine Commissary (independently owned premium pet food store)
who has helped Straydog faithfully for over 10 years by giving us great
discounts, week after week. Also, we wanted to bring awareness to a
new company that sells premium dog food made in the U.S. that has a
'give back' program that helps shelters like Straydog all over the
country. When someone purchases any of the four kinds of FreeHand

(where Straydog is a recipient to receive the donations). Thank you to Canine Commissary
(www.caninecommissary.net), Rohde's Nursery (www.beorganic.com) and FreeHand
(www.lendafreehand.com) for your giving spirit and help to Straydog!
Save the date! Another fun Straydog fundraising event is coming up after the holidays! We have the
date set for our Luv a Pup Valentine's Concert at the lovely Plaza Theater in Garland, TX. Come listen
to some great performers, Sunday, February 10th, at 4 p.m. We'll have delicious desserts and possibly
some pups outside. More information will be coming to you soon.
As the holidays are upon us, to help further support our dogs, please consider making a donation to
Straydog in honor of a friend or loved one as an upcoming holiday gift. We will send acknowledgment
to your honored one, letting them know of your gift to Straydog.
And, please remind everyone you know to spay and neuter their pets as this is the only solution to
eliminate the over-population problem, which will end the needless euthanasia of our surplus, precious
companion animals, and which will also tremendously reduce the high cost of maintaining no-kill
shelters.
The rewarding work at Straydog is ongoing. We never let
up as our commitment is 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Thank you again for your generous support for our
mission and the rescues at Straydog.
Happy Holidays and Best Wishes,
from Bill, Juana, and everyone at Straydog!

SATURDAY, June 30, 2012 – Juana Reports – New Rescue RV goes in Alice's
kennel, and she isn't too happy to move, at first. -- We are pleased to welcome
Pup RV to Straydog. He is so sweet! He was found abandoned with a broken leg
by an employee of our friends, ExploreUSA. He does have hookworms so he has to
be in quarantine. RV is using Alice's outside kennel by the Hospital Trailer. We put
a blanket out there and he loves his blankie. He is so pretty with his spotted eye
and sweet personality. Now we have to figure out where Alice will go for her time
outside. She is a digger, but she chose this kennel right next to the Hospital where
she won't dig. But now that RV is occupying it and because he has hookworms, it's
a quarantine kennel. I thought that Champ's kennel would be very nice for Alice, David helps RV out of his
crate upon arriving
at Straydog.
when Champ is inside. It has a large tree for shade. Well, I took Alice to Champ's
kennel, but within 30 minutes, she had dug out and was back at the Hospital Trailer, wanting to come
back in or to her normal outside kennel! We then tried Sam's kennel. She can see everyone from this
kennel, so she is happy there and didn't dig. It is amazing how our dogs rule where they want to be!
Lucy gives RV some attention.
Sweet RV loves his blankie.
Today is Adoption Day and Sonny and Cher and three of Belle's pups were the lucky ones to
attend!
Sonny and Cher are two newer rescues,
who get to go to Adoption Day today.
Lucy, Sherri and David get three of Belle's ever-growing
pups ready for their trip to Adoption Day.

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 – Skylar, Beto, Rowdy, Snoopy and Natasha
We found a hot spot on handsome Skylar today.
This is normal for him in the summer time.
He was doctored up and will be just fine. Skylar would
be a wonderful pet to a family with no other doggies.
Big Pup Rowdy, along with Beto and so
many of our doggies would love a home
with their own very own family!
This is Big Pup Beto. He and his kennel
mate, Rowdy, are a couple of
good looking fellas, available for adoption!
Snoopy found his way inside a
recently emptied dog food bag and
licked it clean. He seemed to enjoy his
search and lick mission. Snoopy may
be blind and deaf but he
gets around just fine!
Natasha loves to eat fruit,
especially apples. She's very sweet,
and would love to be your
companion. She loves children too!
We Need You!
Because of your support, we can care for all of our rescues,
even older dogs like blind and deaf Snoopy, who may not
ever be adopted, giving them a loving home for all their days.
Our deepest, heartfelt thanks to all of our dear supporters ~
Your donations make a tremendous impact and help so many dogs!

Wednesday, July 25, 2012 – David Reports – RV has four more weeks of wearing his cast.
Juana takes RV to the park. He
gets so excited and is anxious to
be let free and run. Juana
explains to him that he has about
four more weeks to go before his
cast can come off but that it will
be here before he knows it.
Juana walks RV around the park so he
can get exercise. He can't be allowed
to run till his cast comes off in another month.
Look at RV's face. He seems very happy!
Shim is doing very well. He is a great companion for
Peanut and Benji. They are all now best friends.
Pepper is growing and getting along very well with
Sable and Moe. We are all excited for Pepper
because this weekend he's most probably going to
be adopted. We will all miss him, but this is what we
do--try to find forever homes for our family here.
(Pepper was adopted! Congratulations to all!)

TUESDAY, July 31, 2012 – Ike's Adoption
This is a picture of Ike at the Amazing Pet Expo back in
June. A family had their dog Shades with them, and fell
in love with Ike. They wanted to adopt Ike after their
vacation if all worked out. Today, July 31st, we did a
home visit for Ike, and this beautiful fella did find his
forever home. Congratulations Ike and family!
Shades gives Ike a tour of the back yard. (A recent
storm blew down the tree in this photo).
Shades greets Ike at the back gate, and they talked
to each other with tails wagging!
They seem very happy with each other.
Ike lies on the floor enjoying the cool indoors,
as his new dad fills out the adoption contract.
Ike is thinking this home will do just fine!

Saturday, August 11, 2012 – Jackson, Anthony, Peanut, Benji and Shim
Jackson is putting more and more
pressure on his leg with each passing
day. The swelling is going down, and he
is feeling much better. It's been ten
days since his TPLO knee surgery,
and we are so happy for his progress
and that he is feeling better.
Today we found some ringworm sores on
Peanut (front). But so far Benji (behind)
is clear. They don't seem too happy
about not getting to go to the park.
Senior Anthony had a good day. He looked
happy as he strutted across the park.
He also made it up the ramp all by himself,
walked through the hospital by
himself too, and back to his big bed.
Lucy caregives Shimmy.

Oh my goodness, I just saw the video on Straydog's Facebook page of Ike at his new home.
I couldn't be happier for him. I am so glad that he found a forever home. It did not take him
any time at all to find a loving family. It's hard to believe that just a year ago he was a stray
hanging out at my house. A year ago we had a bad fire in the area and had to evacuate. I
wasn't going to just watch our house burn so I drove back to our house. Before we left we
couldn't find our cats to take them with us so we had left the doors wide open for them to
escape, I ran back into the house to see if I could find them, low and behold...Ike was there
laying in the living room floor sleeping. I got him and my neighbor's dogs and went down the
road and they hung out with me and my dog until we could go back home. It kind of made
me sad, Ike took the first chance he could to get inside a house, and it could have ended up
bad. But he will never have those stray problems ever again. I know you chose wonderful
owners for him. I cry now because I am so happy for him! He's never looked better and
healthier and happier. He is such a beautiful boy! Shame on the scum that dumped him. They
didn't even let him live up to his full potential and loving heart. But their loss is his new
owner's gain. And Shades' gain of a new best friend. I think what you guys do is awesome
and amazing! I will continue to tell people what good work you guys do and Ike is proof of it!

Subject: Dodger (one of Belle's Pups)
I wanted to give you an update on how Dodger is doing
in his new home. Dodger is probably one of the best
dogs we have ever had and I wanted to say thank you
for allowing us to adopt Dodger into our home. He
immediately found a spot on our bed and sleeps with us
every night. He loves to sleep on his back which David
thinks is hilarious. Dodger is naturally a happy, goodnatured dog and is never any trouble. David taught him
how to play catch and he loves to race around the yard,
smiling his happy dog smile and playing with the family.
Instinctively, Dodger knew he needed to go outside to
the bathroom. He has never had an accident in the
house and is one of the easiest dogs I've ever had to
potty train. We are spoiling him with a mix of good,
nutritional dog food and high end dog food that has
fruits and vegetables in it. His coat is shiny and healthy
and he gained over 4 pounds in 2 weeks. Our cat,
Dodger and his new Dad, David, on the day
Maggie, seems to think he's okay for a dog. She won't
of Dodger's adoption, August 1, 2012.
come near him but will come in the same room he is in
when she feels like it. This is a huge step for our cat
who doesn't like either dogs or people. She has accepted him as one of the family. Dodger
seems to know not to bother her and he gives her the space she needs.
Dodger is a blessing to me and my husband with our own children going off to college. We
can now lavish our love and attention on him like we did with our kids when they were
growing up. A little daily structure, teaching him doggy manners and rules, and a lot of love
works on both dogs and children and I know he will grow up to be a happy and healthy
dog.
Thank you again for bringing Dodger into our lives. May others find the happiness we did
with one of your dogs.

SUNDAY, September 16, 2012 – Juana reports – Puppy Rosco is dumped near Straydog –
Last night when I was leaving the shelter, I noticed a tiny little puppy running loose down by the
dumpster. It looked as if somebody had just dumped him, because he smelled of perfume and was
very clean. He looks very healthy and well taken care of too. It's a horrible shame somebody would
just dump a little pup like this. He must have been really scared. He's about four weeks old and kind
of looks like our boxer-mix, Noble.
Luckily Juana saw this little
puppy by our dumpster.
Juana rescues the little fella.
We named the puppy, Rosco.
The last day of the RV Show -- Today Bill, David and Erin joined our volunteers at the last day of the
RV show in Dallas. They took Ollie and Elsa today. Ollie and RV went on Friday, Scoobie and RV
yesterday. The dogs were a big hit and really enjoyed the outing. Elsa had a great time today and she
even had an application taken home by a very nice couple. Let's hope they are serious and we see it in
the mail soon. (Post script: Sweet Elsa is still with us at Straydog and still available for adoption).
At the RV show, Elsa loves being petted.
Ollie also loves the attention he receives at the RV show.

THURSDAY, October 4, 2012 – Our dear friend and loyal volunteer Polly dedicates her
Thursdays helping us caregive our dogs. We appreciate her so much. She had a little trouble
getting nervous Yoshi to come to her today. So Juana went into the kennel and Yoshi came to
her, and Polly was then able to love on Yoshi and give him some attention.
Yoshi is a very timid dog, not having
human contact as a puppy until he was
rescued from under a house at
about 8 or 9 weeks of age.
We took a cute photo of Puppy Rosco with
his look-alike, Noble, who sure likes
having this little puppy around.

Reggie could really use a good grooming!
We are still in need of some good clippers,
scissors, and/or some appointments with the groomers!

THURSDAY, October 4, 2012, continued -- RV got a little bit too rambunctious with Terry-dog during
their park time together today. RV kept on annoying Terry-dog until she finally ended up growling
some and snapping at his legs. She did not hurt RV at all. She was just letting him know she'd had
enough rough housing. They are still friends and things are good.
Terry chases RV around the park, and the two
had a great time playing, though Terry later
began to get a little rough.
Bill monitors the two of them running around
playing, making sure they don't get too rough.
A longtime supporter and her friend visit Straydog -- We had a very pleasant visit later this
afternoon from one of our longtime supporters Karen K. and her friend Caroline, who lives in
England. Bill, Juana and Erin gave them a tour of the shelter, and they got to see all of our dogs and
had a great time. It is so nice that they had the opportunity to come and see us.
Duncan gets a treat from Karen.
Caroline says hi to Jack and
Jill in the small park.
Puppy Rosco gives Karen kisses.

TUESDAY, October 16, 2012 – Duncan's Adoption! Duncan's mom came out and visited Straydog
and fell in love. We were so excited about this seemingly perfect match, after having this big fella with
us for several years! Bill and Juana did the home visit in Tyler, and all went very well. We have heard
updates since that Duncan likes to follow his new dad everywhere he goes! He's eating well, and he
got a glowing report from the vet. Duncan loves being brushed every day by his new mom, and lies
by her while she reads every evening. We are so happy! Congratulations Duncan and family!
During the home visit, Duncan takes a look at the fish
pond, which has several goldfish in it, while
Juana talks with Duncan's new family.

very happy about his new home and family
