VISION STATEMENT To prepare our members for Jesus’ soon return and with united spirit evangelize the whole of Peninsular Malaysia. PEM DIRECTORY President from the President of Peninsular Malaysia Mission (PEM), Pr Leong Fai Distributing the Great Hope with Biblical Principle “About two years ago, three of my neighbours' houses were burned to ashes in separate occasions, all within the span of 18 months. All three incidences of fire started during midnight. Each time, those first awoke by the fire alerted their neighbours by shouting, "Fire! Fire!" Our world is in a dangerous situation. People need to be warned about the final destruction. They have only one chance to be saved, and that is to accept the free salvation from God through Jesus Christ. We have this great hope, and we are indebted to those who have yet to know about it before the world comes to an end. Leong Fai Executive Secretary Terrance Sim Treasurer Adventist Message Jayce Gooi Laymen Industries Chaplaincy Services & Jayce Gooi Francis Amer (HON) Children Ministry, Community Service, Women Ministry Tam Man Lin Communication, Public Affairs & Religious Liberty Terrance Sim Education Matthew Mambu Family Ministry Petrik Andrews In 2012 and 2013, the world church plans to deliver the Great Hope to every family, and to tell them about the soon coming of our Lord Jesus. Our Mission is excited about this distribution project. Most of our members have read this book through the encouragement of our pastors in the last six months. We are acquainted with the Great Hope personally and are ready to share our hope with others. Using the missiological principle found in the book of Acts chapter 1, I would like to encourage every member to identify and list out at least 10 individuals in different families who are closely related to us. Pray for them everyday until you are moved by the Holy Spirit to deliver the Great Hope to them, and continue to pray that God will help them to understand the book. This is the 1st phase of the mass distribution of the Great Hope. While praying for the follow-up work for the 1st phase recipients, start collecting names through our daily associations in business, work, studies or any kind of activities. Follow the same procedure in phase 1 until the books are delivered. This will be the 2nd phase of the distribution of the Great Hope. Meanwhile, the Mission will organize groups of young people to distribute the Great Hope during the school holidays to the towns and villages where there are no Adventist establishments yet. This will be the 3rd phase of the distribution programme. I would like to challenge our members to design a message using the mobile phone or a computer to get the Great Hope out to the families that we cannot reach via face-to-face contact. Some members may even send the Great Hope through the postal service. We are using the strategy to reach out to our close friends and associates, then to our friends in general, followed by the people around us and finally to the people who are away from us. This is the Biblical Principle of witnessing to the "Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth". By the grace of God through the power of the Holy Spirit, we will be blessed by participating in the distribution of the Great Hope to every family. Amen!> Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Vision 9 ~ Good News from PEM Churches ~ IPOH CHINESE CHURCH REAPS “FIRST FRUIT” OF ITS HEALTH MINISTRY SHARED BY MRS LIEW CHONG KIM: In Jan 2010, Ipoh Chinese Church, through its Health Leader Mrs Liew Chong Kim, the Pastor and the church members, opened its door to two Medical Missionaries, Tabitha Andrews and Catherine Khoo. Little did they know that the impact of the health work done during that time would end up with the baptism of a soul! The health group initiated programmes like Health Expo, “Eight Weeks to Wellness Cooking Classes,” and “Four Weeks to a Healthier Lifestyle.” While the Health Expo was held in a community area, the other programmes were held at Living Spring Wellness Centre in Kampung Bercham, a centre managed by Mr & Mrs Liew which they have dedicated to the church. Talks and demonstrations on (1) Hydrotherapy, (2) CHAROBIX & Physiotherapy Exercise, (3) Natural Remedies, (4) Seated Back Massage & Facial Treatment was offered at the event. The participants, ranging from 20-68 people came to each different programme. By the beginning of the year 2011, five participants (from the Health programme) visited Ipoh Chinese Church. Subsequently, Pr Andrew Hau conducted Bible Study with them which led to Mr & Mrs Chan Peng Yu’s decision to remove all the statues which they worshipped at home. On another note, an AOG Church Pastor in Kuala Lumpur suffered from severe eczema. He came to the centre for treatment using the NEWSTART programme. Thank God that it greatly improved his health after three weeks of intensive care; now he is convinced about NEWSTART and would like to introduce this to his church members. There are many more outlined health programmes that our church is planning to do; but the best news is that on Dec 10, 2011, Mrs Chan Peng Yu decided to be baptized! Together with her sister and Mr Tam Kok Weng they are the first fruit of the health ministry work in Ipoh. Surely more fruits will be harvested in time to come! Praise Jesus!> BAPTISMS SHARED BY SHANTI JONATHAN: On Jul 30, two precious souls were baptized into Klang Indian Church. The baptisms took place at Petaling Jaya English Church.> Vision 10 Buy the truth and do not sell it; get wisdom, discipline and understanding. Proverbs 23:23, NIV. ~ Good News from PEM Churches & Variety ~ The Widow and Her Little Oil ~ by Maclan Jim Matthew ~ “Nothing there at all…except a little oil.” 2 Kings 4:2. Her husband was a prophet who fear and love the Lord with all his heart. But death knows no one and fears no one. The prophet of God left a wife and two boys behind. What a tragedy that strikes a family who had feared the Lord. It seems unfair that her husband died while serving the Lord. Not only she grieves for her loss of her husband but was left behind to pay all the debts he had. The creditors’ came to claim his debts. She had to sell everything in the house but yet it wasn’t enough. The creditors then threaten to take her two boys as slaves. The widow cant’ afford to lose her boys. There was no way she would allow people to take her boys from her. Suffering from lost, grief and fear, the widow went to seek the help of Elisha. She knew who to seek and where to find Elisha. Her faith had brought her to the prophet who was famous with the inscription “the Man of God”. Elisha asked her, “What do you have in your house?” the widow gently replied, “Your servant has nothing there at all, except a little oil.” (2 Kings 4:2). The man of God then instructed, to go around and ask the neighbours for empty jars, then filled those jars with the little oil she had and when it is done, she was to sell all those jars that was filled with oil. Then she could go and pay all her debts and could live on what is left. The widow left with no question of doubt. Her faith had chosen to trust the words of the prophet. There was no room for worry. No room for discouragement. All she had to do is to believe the words of the prophet and obey. She honestly had chosen to look beyond those limited resources and work things out. She decided to put her energy and trust in God that later produced incredible result. Today, we can choose to put our trust in God’s word. We can choose to have no room for doubt, worries and discouragement. We do not need to deploy on the scantiness of our available resources. Our energy and trust in God produces result. That little oil that she had was more than enough to pay her debts and to feed her family. Our little oil of faith too can reenergize us to work for the Lord zealously and effectively.> WHOLE NIGHT PRAYER SHARED BY PR EDWIN JOSEPH: On Aug 27, a Whole Night Prayer Meeting was held in Teluk Intan Church and we joined hand together in unison prayer at the end of the Prayer session. We prayed for each member’s spiritual growth, backsliding members, and SPM, UPSR, and PMR student. Praise the Lord for the His presence in our midst.> The Importance of FAMILY ~ contributed by Ms Maria Sangkong ~ I ran into a stranger as he passed by, "Oh excuse me please" was my reply. He said, "Please excuse me too; I wasn't watching for you." We were very polite, this stranger and I. We went on our way and we said good-bye. But at home a different story is told, How we treat our loved ones, young and old. Later that day, cooking the evening meal, My son stood beside me very still. When I turned, I nearly knocked him down. "Move out of the way," I said with a frown. He walked away, his little heart broken. I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken. While I lay awake in bed, God's still small voice came to me and said, "While dealing with a stranger, common courtesy you use, but the family you love, you seem to abuse. Go and look on the kitchen floor, You'll find some flowers there by the door. Those are the flowers he brought for you. He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue. He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise, you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes." By this time, I felt very small, and now my tears began to fall. I quietly went and knelt by his bed; "Wake up, little one, wake up," I said. "Are these the flowers you picked for me?" He smiled, "I found them out by the tree. I picked them because they're pretty like you. I knew you'd like them, especially the blue." I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today; I shouldn't have yelled at you that way." He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay. I love you anyway." I said, "Son, I love you too, and I do like the flowers, especially the blue." Do you know what the word FAMILY means? FAMILY = Father And Mother I Love You > Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness…Matthew 5:8, NIV. Vision 11 ~ Good News from PEM Churches ~ PJ MIRACLE CHOIR’S TRIP TO SINGAPORE FROM NOV 4-7 SHARED BY ROSE SOLANO: The Petaling Jaya English Church choir, better known as PJ Miracle Choir, travelled to Singapore to share the wonderful message of Jesus Christ in song. The trip started on Nov 4 with the convoy of 5 cars with the 25 members of the choir including their director Ellen Andrews and advisors Allan and Jane Yap, heading their way to the “Fine City” of Singapore. On Nov 5, the members rose up early to prepare for their musical presentation with morning devotion and voice warm up. Soon after, the choir made their way to Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church, where, during Divine Worship, the choir shared the message of hope, encouragement to serve and salvation with the cantata named “Go to all the World”. It was a phenomenal presentation that culminated with a sermonette by one of the choir advisors and member, Jane Yap, that led the audience through the last moments of Jesus Christ before His death, engulfing them into the story in order to encourage them to tell the world what Christ did for each one of us. After the presentation, the Maranatha Church invited the choir members to their potluck, enjoying the fellowship with one another. Later in the evening, the choir members prepared a social night with the Maranatha church members, the gathering started with action songs, continued with games, skits and ended with a Malaysian folk dance that put everyone on their feet, it was a night full of laughter and fellowship, a night that will be unforgettable. The trip continued with free time to see some of the touristic attractions of Singapore bringing the group closer together as they enjoyed the time together. The trip was not without its challenges; however through the challenges faced is where the Hand of God was seen reassuring that God still performs His miracles on our lives and reminding us why the Choir is named PJ Miracle Choir. To God be the Glory always!> ADVENTIST COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE (ACC) TEAM CONDUCTS MEDICAL AND DENTAL OUTREACH SHARED BY JANE YAP: From Nov 10-13, a nine-member health volunteers arrived in Kuching, Sarawak, for a 3-day Medical and Dental outreach among the Iban community in Kampung Rayu and Belian respectively. The team, composed of a medical doctor, a dentist, nurses, dietician and two other volunteers, spent three days giving free medical check-ups, free medication and free tooth extraction among the community folks. A health lecture on proper teeth care, diabetes and healthy lifestyle were also conducted during the night in one of the long houses. Altogether, 102 dental patients and 226 medical patients were seen. The event was a preamble to a new church work which will be done in Kampung Rayu initiated by the Tan family in collaboration with Sarawak Mission and ACC. On the last day of their visit, the group dedicated a piece of land in the area where God willing, a church building will be erected in 2012; this will be the first Adventist church in this area. Thank God for the great weather and all who have supported this Bazaar. TESTIMONY: I am Thilaga who was diagnosed with renal failure in 2009. I am a former Ipoh Adventist Church member who had been back-sliding for many years. I have been suffering from both lower limbs being swollen and they had turned black in colour. The doctor advised me to go for dialysis. I did not know what to do or where to go. That was the time Pr and Mrs T John came to visit and prayed for me. From that moment onward, I started going back to church. Every Saturday after the church service and potluck, the Women Ministry Department would pray for me, and on every Monday, the Women Ministry Department would fast and pray for me. A month later, when I went for check-up, the doctor said that I do not need dialysis! With God’s grace, till now, I am an active Klebang Tamil Church member and active member of the Women Ministry Department. God has performed a miracle in my life and I believe my testimony encourages many souls. Through this Women Ministry Department, many have seen God’s miracles, and please continue to pray for our Women Ministry Department. MINI HEALTH EXPO SHARED BY JASMINE JOHN: In the month of May, Klebang Adventist Youth Department organized a Mini Health Expo. Proverbs 3:7, NIV. ~ Good News from PEM Churches & www.8-treasures.com ~ The Violin Strings (www.8-treasures.com): During these days of stress and strain, many succumb to high blood pressure, strokes, or heart attacks. Why is this so? The meeting of deadlines, job dissatisfaction, interpersonal conflicts, marital problems, the breakup of the home, business failures, economic insolvency – all these, and more contribute to our stressful conditions. Add to these the corollary feelings of fear, jealousy, anger, frustration, disappointment, anxiety, worry, depressing ï and you have all the necessary ingredients for perfectly stressful condition. Stress, however, is not all that bad, for there is also a good side of it. Actually stress is a neutral word that simply means tension. Now, there are bad stresses and good stresses. If we are referring to the negative or debilitating type, “distress” is the more accurate word to use. If we mean the positive kind, “eustress,” meaning good stress, is the right way to use. Hans Selye, the Canadian physician and biologist, coined this word in his book Stress Without Distress. A violin with completely loosened and relaxed string cannot produce any music. But when a violinist tightens the pegs so that the four strings are stretched with the right tensionïsol, re, la and mi are templadoïand the virtuoso sweeps these properly harmonized strings with a bow, notes almost divine float out the evening air. The plaintive sound of a violin serenades a kundiman in a moonlit night only when there is tension in the strings. Just so a little amount of stress is necessary to make out life interesting. Life in most parts of the world is not easy for many. But there are still strong people. With a support system that a close-knit family provide, the inborn sense of humour, a strong religious faith, people are well able to take the little stress that come their way. So, a little creative tension is sometimes needed so that the symphony of life may sound sweeter like the violin strains which are wafted in the air during a moonlit night.> TAKE CONTROL PROGRAMME SHARED BY ROSE SOLANO: From Jul 31 to Sep 5, a group of 14 participants set their minds and were ready to become “the biggest losers” of Petaling Jaya, Selangor. The name of the programme was Take Control as the programme’s objective was to educate the participants in order for them to take control of their health and in particular, to lose weight, and to reduce or reverse their hypertension (for those that had the hypertensive condition). After six weeks, it was time for the final weigh in. All the effort and dedication from the participants paid off, with great joy, all 14 of them had lost weight. ‘The biggest loser’ lost a total of 10kg; thus, winning the grand prize of the programme. To God be the glory for the strength given to all the participants.> Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Matthew 5:5, NIV. Vision 15 ~ Vision ~ Choose life, not death ~ Devotion shared by Daniel Victor ~ I was reading the Bible and this verse caught my attention. God did not just give us the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses, He tells us to choose life! He desires for us to choose life and live under His blessings. Proverbs 18:21 tells us that “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” In other words, what we speak has power to cause death or life. One of the ways that we choose life and not death is by the words we choose to speak. Everything in the world operates by the words we speak. A person’s feelings and emotions can dramatically change because of the words he or she hears. When we see this happen, the right words can bring life, joy and happiness, whereas the wrong words can bring death and sadness. People get married because of the words they speak, and people fight because of the words they speak. If we plan on living the life that God has for us, we need to make sure that we have our tongues under control. In John 12:49-50 we see that Jesus only spoke the things that He heard the Father say. He only talked in agreement with the Father’s will. If Jesus is our example, and He is, we need to do what He did. We need to speak words that are in agreement with God’s will, which is His word. He needs us to say the things that God says about us! You and I do not have any business speaking words that are contrary to the word of God! We need to speak words that are in agreement with what God says in His Word. The Bible is clear about who we are in Christ, where we are in Christ, what we have in Christ and what we can do in Christ. When we face various situations in our lives, we need to speak words that are in agreement with who we are in Christ, where we are in Christ, what we have in Christ and what we can do in Christ, because that is what God says! Problems like low self-esteem, discouragement, negativity, condemnation, etc. will have no place in our lives when we speak in agreement with God on a continual basis. If you are reading this and think it is impossible to control your tongue, you are right! James 3:8 actually says that no man can tame the tongue! But, do not be discouraged! You and I cannot tame the tongue in our own strength but thank God for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is always present with us and willing to help us tame our tongues. Peter was a man with a wild tongue, but after the Pentecost we see him speaking with power and authority. You and I have the same opportunity and ability because of the Holy Spirit living in us! So, ask the Holy Spirit for His help and guidance so that you can speak words of life and not death in every situation of your life! Scripture for thought: "I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live." - Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV).> Advisors: Editor: Printers: Circulation: Pr Terrance Sim and Pr Leong Fai Jessica Thai ASP One-Stop Sdn Bhd Peninsular Malaysia Mission (PEM) ~ Many thanks to all who have contributed to Vision, an official quarterly newsletter of PEM.
