“She was crying and I shed a tear, it was the most emotional part for me.” > feature wedding : Short story: They met in law school. Full story: When Camille Lu emailed Wilson Tsu after seeing his picture on Match.com and Northwestern Law’s Facebook page, Wilson said he was too busy to Camille Lu and Wilson Tsu September 5, ‘10 Rutherford, California go out. Undeterred, Camille waited a month and emailed again. “I said ‘I know you’re super busy, but if we hit it off, great, and if not, we’ll just have a fun night,’” she recalls of initiating their first date in 2006. Hit it off, they did, continuing to date as each finished school and began their careers. They even moved in together in late 2008. With things going well, and a trip to Italy planned for late October of the following year, Camille sensed that an Italian proposal was imminent. Wanting it to be a surprise, Wilson took her off-guard by proposing the night before they left. “We had just eaten dinner, I was washing the dishes and he keeps saying ‘will you open this dessert,’” says Camille, who finally opened the box only to find a ring sticking out from the carrot cake. With Wilson down on one knee, Camille realized he was proposing and after saying yes, the two danced around the house. While in Rome, he surprised her again by having a Chicago photographer flown over to take their engagement photos. 225 226 Wanting an outdoor wedding, but not set on a particular venue, the couple decided to visit Napa, Calif., in early 2010. “It was a no-brainer for me,” Wilson recalls of deciding to have a destination wedding. “We liked everything about it.” Excited about every venue they saw, they finally chose Beaulieu Garden in Rutherford for their Labor Day weekend nuptials. St. Helena’s Gott’s Roadside restaurant served as the spot for Friday’s welcome party, while Press, with its intimate outdoor space, provided them the ambiance they wanted for Saturday’s rehearsal dinner. Prior to the 4 p.m. Sunday ceremony, the couple took photos before joining their 80 guests. “When her dad gave her away, he said a bunch of great things,” says Wilson. “She was crying and I shed a tear, it was the most emotional part for me.” Following the ceremony, as “we were walking down the aisle, I looked around and looked at him,” Camille says. “I felt so lucky for having him and being married. It makes my heart still beat faster to think about it.” The bride and groom shared their first dance to “Destiny” by Zero 7. To tie-in Wilson’s love of Star Trek—Camille now, too, is a fan—their band, Pop Rocks, performed their second set dressed as Trekkie characters. The newlyweds honeymooned in Hong Kong, the Maldives and Singapore before returning home to the Windy City. “We have so much fun together,” says Camille of being married. “We really embrace life’s silly mothank you for sharing your story GRACE ORMONDE WEDDING STYLE ments; we have enough seriousness with our jobs.
