From the Director
Regular readers of this magazine know that we always take the “glass is half
full” approach to our content. There are so many sources for “bad” news, especially economic news, we feel it’s important to point out that there is still plenty
to celebrate in our neck of the woods. Here are a few for starters…
• A new Mexican restaurant, “Si Señor” has signed as a tenant for the former
Kilbane’s Tavern. It should be open by holiday season, following the complete restoration of the building. We are excited to have a new choice in the neighborhood.
• The Police and Firefighters Memorial was recently completed with the installation
of the final six metal sculptures by artist Brinsley Tyrell.
• Solar lighting was installed in Alger Cemetery by the Chatfield Block Club.
• The new Garfield Elementary School was dedicated and is now open.
But wait, there’s more! Check out the additional news below and related information in the pages of this magazine.
Here at our “KCDC Building” (17401-7 Lorain) we have recently welcomed
a new office of the US Census Bureau in the former Elgin Furniture space. We
wish to thank the City of Cleveland for the financing on the project. The office
brings forty jobs to the neighborhood, and one of them could be yours. See the
article on page 6.
The Streetscape Improvement Project continues to move along. Soon the
overhead wires and poles will be replaced by decorative street lighting, and the
planters will be filled with trees and plants. The project, scheduled for completion
late this fall, has spawned lots of interest in the neighborhood. We suspect that
you’ll see many of the available storefronts filled in the future.
Enjoy the fall! And, don’t forget the Kamm’s Corners Farmers Market continues
through the end of October with 30 vendors, live entertainment, and weekly chef
demonstrations. If you haven’t been there, you’re missing a neighborhood gem!
Come up for lunch and say hello. The Farmers Market is located behind Walgreens
in the municipal parking lot and takes place from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. each and every
Sunday, rain or shine — and there’s been a lot of shine!
Remember to shop locally to support our merchants, watch out for kids going
to and from school, and as always, let us know how we’re doing.
Our Cover: The luscious display of fresh produce gracing our cover was taken by Joe Outlaw
at the White Family Farm booth at the August 23, 2009 Kamm’s Corners Farmers Market. The
commanding figure in the upper right hand corner is none other than long-time market vendor
Cowboy George of p’Zazz Hot Sauces & Rubs!

This fall the West Park Historical
Society (WPHS) will be publishing Then and Now in West Park, a
book-length compilation of old photos
side-by-side with pictures of the same
locations as they appear today. This
fascinating look at historic buildings,
old intersections, lost roads, and forgotten railroad crossings would make
a great gift for the holidays. Watch
for more information in our next
magazine.
Save the date of November 12th
as the WPHS and historical societies from Rocky River, Fairview
Park, and Lakewood will be holding a special presentation about
the Interurbans of Rockport.
Interurbans were a major network of
local electric railroads that began
in the early 1900s and ended in 1938.
Details will be provided in an upcoming e-newsletter and on the KCDC
website.
The West Park Branch of the
Cleveland Library (3805 West 157th

Bedside Angels is a new service
for Fairview Hospital patients
who have limited visitors or who are
unconscious. The Bedside Angel will
spend time sitting at the bedside of
a patient, talking and providing the

sad to know that there are those who
are alone, without the comfort of others. The Bedside Angel will meet with
the patient at various times during
the patient’s hospitalization. If you or
anyone you know could benefit from
visits from a Bedside Angel while at
Fairview Hospital, please don’t hesitate to contact Linda O’Donnell at

… by Councilman Marty Keane
News from Ward 21 and City Hall
Dear Neighbors:
What a great summer! Thank
you for taking time out of your busy
schedule to enjoy our neighborhood.
The crowds at the 4th of July parade,
the parks, the block parties, the
farmers market, and our downtown
business district are a testament to our
vibrant life in West Park.
As always, please remember
that our fine schools are back in
session. Slow down and recognize
that the safety of our children is our
responsibility as they travel to and
from school. Remember our side
streets are not shortcuts but places
with homes and children. Obey the
speed limit, even as the speed of our
daily lives continues to increase.
A few residents moved away since
the Ohio Supreme Court determined
our residency requirement to be
unconstitutional. Certainly not the
exodus as predicted by the local
media. While I have deep concerns
about the long-term implications this
ruling could have on our Home Rule
authority, I am not concerned about
the vitality of our neighborhoods. The
outpouring of support for West Park is
inspiring with phone calls and e-mails
as well as the frequent shout on the
street: “I’m staying.”
Of greater concern is the future of
St. Patrick Church. Many know of the
Bishop’s decision to close the church
and merge the parish with the worship
site to be Ascension. The ramifications
go well beyond religion or faith and
directly impact our neighborhoods.
Please join us in St. Pat’s Church
every Thursday at 8:00 p.m. for a
vigil and to learn how you can help to
“Save St. Pat’s.”
Bids have been submitted for
the resurfacing of Puritas Avenue
this year. Mayor Jackson remains
5
committed to getting this project
completed before winter. The
contractor will soon be selected
and construction will begin almost
immediately. The funding will come
from the City’s Capital Improvement
Fund and would not have been
possible without Mayor Jackson
and Council President Sweeney
acknowledging the importance of this
project and the lifeline Puritas Avenue
serves to our neighborhoods.
The local Ward allocation for street
resurfacing was stretched to its limit.
Our streets continue to deteriorate at
a higher rate than funding comes in
resulting in fewer resurfaced streets
and more patching. Not filling pot
holes, but grinding out of the worst
parts and resurfacing those sections or
portions of the street. The $200,000
ward allocation goes quickly and the
parsing out of the funds is necessary
to address key infrastructure issues.
We also have a number of crosswalks
out of ADA compliance. These ramps
can be expensive and also come from
our Ward allocation. Thank you for
your patience and understanding as
we try to address all of your concerns.
While this summer showed
tremendous progress, this fall looks
to be even better for the community.
The Downtown Kamm’s Corners
Streetscape looks great and is nearly
complete, on time, and on budget.
Now the fun begins: watching as the
rejuvenation of our business district
takes hold. Please remain committed
and excited, realizing what a great
position we are in as we take on the
challenges ahead. Thank you for
all that you do to make this a great
community to live, work, and raise a
family. And, thank you for shopping
locally.

Rocksolid Stone
Works Becomes
Ohio’s First Stone
Fabrication Shop
to be Accredited
Through the
Marble Institute of
America (MIA)
Rocksolid Stone Works receives
coveted designation symbolizing
they are among the nation’s finest
in the natural stone industry.
KCDC business member, Rocksolid
Stone Works, a division of Wood
Dimensions Inc., has earned the coveted designation of Marble Institute
of America (MIA) Accredited Natural
Stone Fabricator. Accredited Natural
Stone Fabricators represent the best
companies that work on residential
projects such as kitchens and bathrooms.
Currently, only 25 Natural Stone
Fabricators in the country have
achieved accreditation, with Rocksolid
Stone Works being the first in Ohio.
Rocksolid Stone Works specializes
in creating superior natural stone
surfaces that are attractive while
providing functionality. The company
has been on the forefront of natural
stone fabrication and produces quality
products that interact with woodwork,
flooring, and lighting. The company
designs, custom fabricates, and installs stone applications for residential
and commercial clients.
“This accreditation is a symbol of
the dedication and professionalism
of our staff,” said Thomas Rocks,
president of Rocksolid Stone Works.
“This is a fine achievement and we
are particularly proud to be the first
stone fabrication shop in the state to
receive this prestigious designation.”
To become an Accredited Natural
Stone Fabricator by the MIA, a company must have successfully completed three phases of application.
Phase one was the completion of a
lengthy application that required the
applicant company to provide various
documents and references which ensure that the company is in compliance
with the 10 standards of accreditation
as laid out by the MIA Accreditation
Commission. Phase two required
the company’s qualifying agent (the
designated company representative
responsible for filing and maintaining
accreditation records for the applicant company) to pass a 200 question
multiple-choice test. The exam tested
the applicant’s knowledge and application of material usage, installation,
fabrication, restoration, care and
maintenance, administration, legal/
contracts, and jobsite and shop safety.
The third phase was a comprehensive
site visit, which included a facility
review, document review, and one or
more installation site visits.
Garen Distelhorst, the Accreditation
Manager at the MIA said, “Rocksolid
Stone Works is now able to proudly
display the accreditation logo, which
symbolizes that they are among the
finest in the natural stone industry
with respect to craftsmanship, safety,
and business practices.”

Setta Trophy
a Family Affair
NECK PAIN?
BACK PAIN?
Setta Trophy began in 1967 in the basement of the
Setta family home in West Park when Mike Setta needed
trophies during his coaching career in CYO football and
wrestling. He had begun the original diocesan wrestling
organization in Cleveland that year. When his team won
the city championship, he recalled, “Nobody would buy
the team trophies, so I decided to make them myself.”
Later, as the
football and
wrestling coach
at St. Ignatius
High School,

his orders, he
needed to modernize the way he was making trophies and
plaques, for example, switching from hand to computer
engraving. To accommodate the new equipment, the business moved into a storefront at 4098 Rocky River Drive.
To help with the changes in modernization, Mike’s son
Scott joined Setta Trophy in 1990, adding his computer
savvy and production skills. A former football player and
wrestler at St. Edwards, Scott remains active in the sports
arena coaching in the Four Corners Baseball League.
Mike retired from coaching in 1980 and retired from
the Post Office in 1987 to concentrate on growing his
business. In 1999, a fire destroyed most of the machinery
and inventory at the store. Devastated by the loss, the
Setta’s faith in West Park remained steadfast. People
sent checks to help in the recovery. Four Corners Baseball
League paid in advance for their next order to aid in
replenishing the inventory. “The way the people of West
Park rallied around our family at that time proved to us
right then that our decision to stay in the community
was certainly the correct one,” said Mike’s wife, Norene.
Fortunately, they found a new home for Setta Trophy
at 4168 Rocky River Drive. Still focusing primarily on
high school sports, little league, and bowling leagues, the
product line diversified and grew to include corporate
awards such as sales rep of the year, employee of the
month, desk plates, and so on.

Two years ago, Mike’s daughter
Lisa joined the business to run the
office. She handles order entry while
Mike works on all the accounting and
helps where needed. Since his semiretirement, less physical activity over
the years resulted in added pounds.
Mike looked for enjoyable exercise,
but to no avail, so Norene suggested
roller skating, a sport she had enjoyed
for years. Dubiously, Mike gave it a try.
Much to his surprise, he thoroughly
enjoyed it. “Within a year, I went from
a whopping 280 down to my fighting
weight of 200 pounds!” Now Mike
regularly competes in roller skating
dance in regional competitions.
On March 1st, Setta Trophy moved
into an even larger location at 4335
Rocky River Drive. Continuing to expand their product line, Setta Trophy
takes great pride in supporting the
Special Olympics, Boy Scouts, and
other youth activities in our community. “Everyone in this wonderful West
Park community is invited to come in
and see our new home,” said Mike. For
more information or to place an order,

West Park’s
World War I Memorial
…by Gary Swilik
West Park was still an independent
city during World War I. To honor residents who were in the military during
the conflict, a memorial was dedicated
“To Our Boys Of West Park Who
Served In The World War 1914-1919.”
The official effort to recognize those
who fought the “War To End All
Wars,” as optimistic folks believed at
the time, began September 7, 1920,
when West Park passed an ordinance
to issue bonds in the sum of three
thousand dollars to pay for a memorial.
Most of the money was raised through
popular subscription from the school
children and residents of West Park.
The monument was originally
placed at the southeast corner of West
157th and Lorain Avenue on a vacant
lot next to the West Park fire department. In about 1927, when the present West Park Library was erected at
that site, the monument was moved
and put in storage. There it remained
until the early 1930s when the West
Park Kiwanis Club and local American
Legion Post campaigned for its return.
The monument was then rededicated
at a new location in front of George
Washington School at 16210 Lorain
Avenue where it stood for many years.
When George Washington School
was closed in the 1970s it became
necessary to again find a new home
for the monument. In about 1980
it was placed in front of the V.F.W.
Gilbert O’Neil Post on West 150th
Street, just south of K-Mart, where it
stands today. The 159 names inscribed
on the monument include some of
the most prominent families in old
West Park including six who made
the “Supreme
Sacrifice.”
West Park’s World War I
Memorial stands in front of
the V.F.W. Gilbert O’Neil Post
on West 150th Street, just
south of K-Mart.
Highlights of Our Annual Town Meeting
More than 300 neighbors and friends gathered for our 32nd
Annual Town Meeting on Thursday, June 11th at 7 p.m. at
St. Joseph Academy, 3430 Rocky River Drive. Our featured
speaker was Jim Rokakis, County Treasurer. He spoke with
verve and clarity about the mortgage crisis, foreclosures, and
the land bank. Other speakers included Ward 21 Councilman
Martin J. Keane and KCDC Executive Director Steve Lorenz.
Both provided updates on current neighborhood projects and
future plans.
Giveaways at the end of the evening included Indians
tickets and gifts from area merchants. The Bob Bohr Award
for Community Safety was presented to our foot patrol officer, Larry McGervey. A Community Impact Award was given
to the William Waters family for founding Cleveland Eclipse
Soccer in 1978 and keeping it going and growing in West Park
and beyond, now with more than 300 players. Community
Improvement Awards for storefront excellence were awarded
to the doctors who own the West Valley Building at 3865 Rocky
River Drive. A Special Achievement Award was presented to
John Marshall High School for collecting more pints of blood
for the American Red Cross this past school year than did
any other high school in Ohio, Michigan, or Indiana, breaking
all previous records. Total: 697 pints!

renovation includes a complete kitchen
and front and rear patios for outdoor
dining. The menu features a variety
of flat breads, wraps, and chicken and
seafood dishes including calamari,
mussels, and oysters. Open daily from

Sunday through Thursday until 10

West Park Massotherapy Expanding –
Now Offers Dance, Aerobics, and More
The late morning sun streamed
through the storefront windows at
4168 Rocky River Drive creating a
bright spotlight on the shiny hardwood
floor of the newly built studio, the fruition of Marilyn Valentino’s dream to
expand West Park Massotherapy. Her
husband, Mike, a skilled tradesman
and owner of Valentino Construction
had installed the oak hardwood floor
in this soon to be dance studio and
multi-purpose room. Prior to that,
he completely remodeled the space,
raising the ceiling and adding carpeting in some areas. He also painted the
interior with soothing earth tones.
Now this couple, who have lived in
West Park for 31 years, are celebrating the purchase of the building, the
lower level of which Marilyn had been
renting for nine years.
A licensed massage therapist (LMT)
since 1998, Marilyn Valentino exudes a
calm spirit that she has helped others
to achieve through massotherapy. She
exhibits the joy of being in touch with
one’s body – not just through massage,
but also through dance and aerobics.
Before becoming a licensed massage
therapist, Marilyn taught dance at
Arthur Murray Dance Studio.
The lovely new dance studio is also a multipurpose
holistic fitness center..
She has a strong passion about the
benefits and enjoyment that dance
can bring into one’s life. Her mission
is “fitness through dance, while learning a new skill, and most of all having
fun.” She has observed the confidence
that people experience with dance as
part of their lives.
As a result, West Park Massotherapy
is now offering exciting dance lessons
for those who want to go beyond rocking back and forth to slow music – or
being too embarrassed to get up and
dance at all! Marilyn will be teaching
…by Marilyn Osborne
Mike and Marilyn Valentino.
affordable dance classes along with another professional instructor, Patricia
Greener, to ensure that participants
have an amazing experience while
learning and refining simple dance
techniques. No partner necessary!
With her classes, she hopes to teach
people to explore their “inner dancer”
through beautiful movement while
they get fit, make new friends, and
feel wonderful!
Massage therapy is still the primary
focus of West Park Massotherapy, offering a full spectrum of massage
methods by licensed professionals
with years of training and experience. Clients will continue to benefit
from massage in the warm and comfortable family friendly environment
of the lower level rooms of West Park
Massotherapy. But, to better serve
everyone, especially those physically
challenged, the expansion provides a
massage room at ground level.
In addition to massage and dance,
aerobics and body movement classes
will be offered along with mat Pilates.
To meet the staff, see their fabulous
new studio and multi-purpose facility
– and learn more about what’s being
offered – plan to attend dancing demonstrations on Saturday, September
19th. Customer appreciation week
takes place October 6th through 10th
with a Grand Opening on Saturday.
(see ad on page 19). Specials will be
offered at that time. Be sure to visit

by working with Cleveland high school
students to help them learn about the
kinds of jobs that are available here
and to help companies recognize the
importance of working with youth to
build a stronger potential workforce.
To help students become trained
and prepared to enter such a workforce, WIRE-Net created AIM Camp,
an opportunity to expose youth to
manufacturing by providing hands
on experience in a machine shop and
orienting them to basic shop math.
AIM’s program is offered each summer to students entering the 9th or
10th grade.
This summer, Red Seal Electric, a local company and KCDC business member, participated in the AIM program.
The company hosted 25 students for a
company tour and an in-depth look at
what it takes to become a productive
member of the Red Seal Electric team.
Greg Panik, Operations Manager, demonstrates the
use of the Coordinate Measuring machine.

The Durolet Manufacturing
Company was founded in 1946 and
was renamed the Red Seal Electric
Company in June, 1952. The first
product offerings were proprietary
electrical insulation devices for the
open wiring systems utilized in steel
mills.
While still producing these products,
Red Seal has evolved into a complete
machine shop for fabricating composite materials. Markets served include
food and material handling, electromagnet manufacturing and repair,
rubber molding, power generation
and transmission, induction heating,
water treatment and glass manufacturing. Virtually any manufacturing
process that needs thermal, electrical,
or mechanical insulation.
Company President Dan Stryffeler
attributes much of their success
simply to “doing what we say we are
going to do.”

the company’s customer service training, such as “Who Moved My Cheese?”
And “101 Ways to Improve Your

They have also taken advantage of
the slowdown to cross train shop floor

and in computer aided design.

We would often walk from the projects
up to the movie theater at Kamm’s Corners
on Saturday mornings (about a two-mile
hike) and spend the entire day, especially
if it was a rainy one, watching the same
double feature until our little allowance for
popcorn and Tom & Jerrys or SnoCaps ran
out. I remember sitting through one movie
seven times in one day. Then we’d walk all
the way back home – usually in the dark – to
dinner, a bath, and bed.

I remember getting into the idea of collecting valuable coins one year and visiting a coin
shop at the plaza near where Perkins Pancake
House used to be. I’d rummage through my
mom’s change looking for that rare dime or
nickel that I was sure was going to be worth
a fortune. But mom never seemed to have
enough change to go through, and so I quickly
lost interest in pursuing that hobby. Ahh,
Kamm’s Corners does bring back memories –
and almost all of them great ones! I probably
would have bought a home in the area if my
wife and I ended up living in Cleveland and
not in Texas. My younger brother lives off of
Rocky River Drive and my one cousin lives
over near Munn Road. So I still have ties to
that wonderful corner of Cleveland.

The magazine is great! It’s nice to read
articles and shorts about the businesses and
people from around that area. I remember
Kamm’s Corners so well from my early
childhood. My brothers and I grew up in the
housing projects off Parkmount. I lived there
long before I-71 cut through. Our “backyard”
was the large field area that went back to the
railroad tracks and beyond it to West 160th.
That area was all fields, and we had some
great times out there in the summers. In
those days, once the sun was up, we were
chased outside and pretty much stayed there
until suppertime. Occasionally, we’d wander
back around lunchtime to get a sandwich
or something, but then it was back outside.

Local Youth Receives
Eagle Scout Award
Steve Martin, 18, of Boy Scout Troop
82 grew up in West Park. He received
Scouting’s highest award at a special
Eagle Scout ceremony in April at Our
Lady of Angels (OLA) auditorium. For
the award, he earned 29 merit badges,
served as a leader in his troop, and
competed a major community service
project. That project took place on
the grounds of OLA, where he lead a
group of 10 scouts and four adults and
transformed a blighted area near the
Kindergarten/Primary Building into
a garden and bird sanctuary.
A $25,000 grant from the Ohio
Department of Natural Resources allowed organizers of the memorial fund
to finish the project. The West Park
Cleveland Police and Firefighters Fund
provides scholarships to the children
of fallen police and firefighters, and
maintains the memorial. The sculptures run along the walkway of Rocky
River Drive overlooking the Cleveland
Metroparks Rocky River Reservation.

A scout for 10 years, Steve graduated from Trinity High School where
he was involved with the Ambassador

Chamber Choir. He will continue with
Troop 82 as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
Recently, he enrolled in both Tri-C
and Baldwin Wallace where he will
major in medical training and minor
in theater.
Final 6 Sculptures Installed
On Memorial Walkway
The West Park Cleveland Police
and Firefighters Memorial walkway
completion is now complete with
the installation of the final six of 14
wrought iron sculptures. Each one
depicts police and firefighters in action. The recently installed scenes
are titled: Courtroom, Life Flight,
Bomb Squad, Traffic Accident, Toxic
Spill, and Riot. Artist Brimsley Tyrell
was commissioned in 2002 to create
the pieces, and, although all 14 were
completed back then, funding issues
delayed the installation of the final six.
Folks Enjoy Impett Park Location
Hundreds joined us under the stars
this summer for family friendly

8:30 p.m. As in the past, children’s
activities began at 6:30 p.m. and
included creative games, free
balloon creatures, and a bubble gum
blowing contest. The movie started
at dusk. Beverages, popcorn, hot
dogs, ring pops, and snow cones
were sold by Four-Corners Baseball.
Best of all, the movie and the fun
activities were FREE of charge

Chatfield Block Club
Improves Alger Cemetery!
The Chatfield Block Club received
a $3,000 grant from Neighborhood
Connections and raised an additional
$7,000 to fund the Alger Cemetery
Awareness Project. More than 6,000
people are in the 12-acre city-owned
cemetery, including namesake founder
Oswald Kamm and many of the original settlers of Kamm’s Corners. To
improve Querulous Street, which runs
through the cemetery, the club cleaned
up litter and debris in monthly safety
sweeps. They worked with West Park
Lutheran School to plant flowers at the
Bradgate Avenue entrance of the cemetery and with U-Haul to improve the
northern entrance gateway, which borders U-Haul’s property. Last month,
the club partnered with Councilman
Keane and the City to install 10 solar
powered streetlights along Querulous
Street to provide a well-lighted path
through the cemetery. Our gratitude
goes to the Chatfield Block Club for
their success in helping preserve an
important piece of our heritage.
Currently, the block club is working
with the West Park Historical Society
to create a free map to highlight the
location of the early families of West
Park [formerly: Rockport Township]
and focus community attention on the
historical significance the cemetery
has in the neighborhood. Together,
the groups are planning a fundraiser
for October 24th that will include a
historic cemetery walk with living
history interpreters!
Chatfield Block Club is based in the
Chatfield area of Kamm’s Corners.

The Kamm’s Corner Farmers Market
opening day was June 7th and everyone
agreed that the parking lot shed right at
the entrance was badly in need of repair.
Actions speak louder than words and local

opening! With prep work provided by fellow
residents Joe Outlaw (scraping & caulking)

Fairview Hospital Chest Pain
Center Receives Accreditation
Fairview Hospital Chest Pain Center has received full
Cycle II accreditation with Percutaneous Cardiology
Intervention from the Society of Chest Pain Accreditation.
With the rise of Chest Pain Centers came the need to
establish standards designed to improve the consistency
and quality of care provided to patients. The Society’s
accreditation process insures centers meet or exceed
quality-of-care measures in acute cardiac medicine.
Heart attacks are the leading cause of death in the
United States, with 600,000 dying annually of heart
disease. More than five million Americans visit hospitals
each year with chest pain. The goal of the Society of Chest
Pain Centers is to significantly reduce the mortality rate
of these patients by teaching the public to recognize and
react to the early symptoms of a possible heart attack,
reduce the time that it takes to receive treatment, and
increase the accuracy and effectiveness of treatment.
“The Society of Chest Pain Centers sets very high
standards to meet, and our employees and physicians
are to be commended for the hard work and dedication
that were required for this most recent accreditation,”
said Victor Hall, vice president of Cardiac Services for
Cleveland Clinic Western Region hospitals. “This accreditation recognizes Fairview Hospital’s systematic approach
to patient management, which allows our physicians to
reduce time to treatment during the critical early stages
of a heart attack, and to better monitor patients when it
is not clear whether they are having a coronary event.”
The Chest Pain Center at Fairview Hospitals has demonstrated expertise and commitment to quality patient care
by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria
and completing on-site evaluations by a review team from
the Society of Chest Pain Centers. Key areas in which a
Chest Pain Center must demonstrate expertise include:
SETTA
TROPHY
• Integrating the emergency department with
the local emergency medical system.
• Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients
quickly.
• Effectively treating patients with low risk for
acute coronary syndrome and no assignable
cause for their symptoms.
• Continually seeking to improve processes and
procedures.
• Ensuring Chest Pain Center personnel
competency and training.
• Maintaining organizational structure and
commitment.
• Having a functional design that promotes
optimal patient care.
• Supporting community outreach programs
that educate the public to promptly seek
medical care if they display symptoms of a
possible heart attack

U.S. News & World Report’s guide
to “America’s Best Hospitals” has
ranked Fairview Hospital, Respiratory
Therapy as one of the best in their
respective specialties in the United
States.
More than 4,800 hospitals were assessed for their reputation, mortality,
patient safety and care-related factors
such as nursing and patient services.
Only 174 scored high enough to be
ranked in even one category. Of those,
Fairview Hospital ranked number 33
for respiratory disorders.
“This is a great honor for the
Fairview Hospital team and is indicative of the excellence, commitment,
and hard work of the physicians,
nurses and all of the employees,” said
Jan Murphy, president of Fairview

Foreclosure: Are you facing or at risk
of foreclosure? Do you have an adjustable
rate mortgage? The Cuyahoga County
Foreclosure Prevention Program was created by the County Commissioners and
County Treasurer Jim Rokakis in the
spring of 2006 to assist residents of the
county who were having trouble with or
had questions about their home loans. The
program, which has become a model for
other programs like it nationwide, connects
borrower in distress with a local non-profit
counseling agency (such as Neighborhood
Housing Services among others) through
the United Way’s First Call for Help line.
All Cuyahoga County borrowers need to do
is dial 2-1-1 (or 216-436-2000) and they will
be connected to a free counselor.
CCOAL: If you are a homeowner/
renter who wishes to reduce the presence
of lead in their home, you may eligible for
home repairs such as new windows, painting, doors, porches, etc. through a grant
from the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga
County Lead Safe Living Healthy Homes.
If you have chipping and peeling paint and
a child 6 years old or under living in or
visiting your home, you may be eligible for
free repairs and a free vacuum cleaner. For
more information, call Concerned Citizens
Organized Against Lead (CCOAL) at 216737-0016 or 216-420-7954.
