As you have asked for this package, you apparently are interested in what we have to offer. Allow me to highlight some of the services and facilities of our Town. To start with, Mayerthorpe is located at the junction of two major highway routes, these being the ‘Canamex Trade Corridor’ and the ‘Cowboy Trail’. Highway 43 (the Canamex Corridor) is a four-lane limited access highway allowing quick access to Edmonton (~1 hour) or north to Alaska or the Canadian Territories. Highway 22 (the Cowboy Trail) is a tourist highway which runs from southern Alberta along the foothills through ranch country to Mayerthorpe, its northern trail’s end. We also connect with Highway 18, 6 km north of Town, which links us to the northeast portion of Alberta and the Oil Sands. We, the Council and staff of the Town of Mayerthorpe, encourage all interested developers and families who are interested in calling our Town ‘home’ to contact us so that we may provide any help that we can in making your relocation easier. Council works with the ‘GROWTH Alberta Economic Region’ and the ‘Community Futures Yellowhead East’, as well as our own ‘Economic Development Board’ to help establish new businesses in Town. We invite you to go on-line at www.mayerthorpe.ca to view our Virtual 360 tour for a birds-eye view of the community. We proudly opened several new facilities in the community, including a new Aquatic Centre which boasts a junior olympic size outdoor swimming pool and a water slide, a new Exhibition Centre complete with an indoor walking/running track, a new senior’s lodge featuring ‘aging-in-place’ rooms, an upgraded and expanded water treatment plant, an upgraded sewage treatment plant which included the cleaning of lagoons and the relining of sewer mains throughout the Town. We have 2 long-term care facilities and a modern Health Care Centre with 6 doctors serving the community and area. Ambulance service, a local RCMP detachment, a Community Peace Officer, and a large fully-equipped and trained fire department complete the protective services available to the Town and area. Recreational opportunities abound for people of all ages, from baseball, soccer, and golf to hockey, floor and ice curling, gymkhana, and rodeo. An active and growing public library and drama and choir groups provide opportunities to expand your personal and cultural interests. The Town has several playgrounds and parks, including the Fallen Four Memorial Park, a beautiful place to rest and to contemplate. The best part of Mayerthorpe has to be its people. Everyone has the time and the inclination to say “hello and welcome”. If you need some help, just ask and someone will make time to help you out and to shake your hand afterwards. It’s the people, including all of our dedicated volunteers, who make this Town so special and what it is today. Kate Patrick MAYOR 3 INTRODUCTION TO MAYERTHORPE Mayerthorpe is located in the middle of farming and cattle country, only 75 minutes away from Edmonton, 2 1/2 hours away from Jasper National Park, and on the route to the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Alaska.
