Liverpool - 117 one day classes, 16 two

about our Classes...
How much does a class cost?
Prices start from £30.00.
Do I need to bring anything?
The majority of classes include all
materials and equipment but if you do
need to bring anything we will let you
know (see individual class details for
more information). You are very welcome
to bring your own fabrics but we ask that
you call our North Wales store (01745
562 100) prior to the start of a class to
check the exact fabric requirements i.e.
Type of fabric and quantity.
Can I bring my own sewing machine?
Unfortunately due to Health & Safety
legislation you are unable to bring your
own sewing machine.
Do I need any experience?
All our classes state a level; see individual
classes for further information.
How many other people will be in
my class?
Each class can take up to a maximum of
ten people except where stated.
Where do the classes take place?
Currently we are running them at our
Mostyn, North Wales and Liverpool Stores.
We recommend that you arrive 15
minutes prior to the start of your class to
ensure registration is complete.
Are there any on-site facilities?
Our North Wales store has a Café serving
breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, hot drinks,
cakes etc. If you would like to pre-order
sandwiches please do this prior to the
start of your class. The Liverpool Store has
a self-service hot drinks machine.
And finally...
Each participant on the classes will
receive a 10% Discount Card* which can
be used in any of our stores, plus a
complimentary tea or coffee served in the
Workshop. A discount card received on a
one-day class is valid for two weeks; one
received on a two/three day course is
valid for one month and a discount card is
valid for six months on a five day course.

The minimum age for all of our classes is 16
years old, excluding the Children's Classes
where the minimum age is 7 years old.
Children age 14 can attend accompanied by
an adult.
Availability
All bookings are made subject to
availability. Confirmation via letter will be
given one week prior to the start date.
Payment
A 50% deposit must accompany all
bookings (excluding online where full
payment is required when booking). The
balance will be due at the beginning of
your class.

Cancellation
All cancellations must be made in writing
28 days prior to the start of a class.
Unfortunately we are unable to accept
cancellations after that date. Sometimes
due to circumstances beyond our control
classes may be cancelled. In the
unfortunate event that we have to cancel
a class all participants will be notified one
week prior to the start date and will be
offered either an alternative date, a
transfer to another class or a full refund.
We will not be held liable for any travel
costs incurred.

Secrets of a Chanel-Style Jacket with Celia Banks
During this intensive one-day workshop you will be
introduced to the classic techniques that produce a
wonderful cardigan-style jacket. These include shaping
fabric by steam shrinking, underlining, attaching stays and
quilting the lining. A variety of essential hand-stitches will
be taught and a number of samples made for future
reference, including some options for trimming the jacket.

Essential Techniques for Buttonholes AND Fastenings
with Celia Banks
This class deals with assorted buttonholes including
bound or machined, piped, corded or hand-worked.
Techniques include making organza-faced bound
buttonholes on suiting and machined buttonholes on a
variety of fabrics. There will be the opportunity to try out
some alternatives such as modern snap fasteners and a
chance to practice a “never-ending” buttonhole.

Tailoring Techniques with Celia Banks
Using modern interfacings and speed-tailoring processes
this workshop will teach you some tricks of the trade for
producing a professionally finished jacket. Hidden seam
lines, slim line welt pockets, smooth sleeve heads and “no
gape” lapels are just a few of the areas that you will feel
more confident in tackling, using the samples that you will
create during the day.

Essential Techniques for Shirts AND Blouses
with Celia Banks
Shirts and blouses require a huge range of techniques to
produce the perfect wardrobe item. You will concentrate
on making traditional and convertible collars, producing
sharp corners with no bulk. Yokes with no visible seams,
button bands with wonderful topstitching and edge
stitching are just a few of the other techniques. Samples
of specialist seams and stitches will also be completed.

This fun 4 hour class is a great way to get an insight into
dressmaking whilst making a staple piece for your
underwear drawer. For those already sewing it's a really
great way to work with elastic, learning how to sew with it,

Sewing with Stretch Fabrics - Leggings
with Corrie Robinson
This workshop is designed to give you all the skills you
need to sew any stretch fabrics. You will learn the triple
stitch and how to use twin needles, both difficult in their
own rights. You will make a pair of leggings, a staple piece
for any wardrobe, but more importantly it will mean you
can go on and sew any stretch fabric with ease.

This one is a pretty little workshop. We will be working
with stretch lace and stretch fabrics, creating a pair of

The aim of this course is to show students how to choose
and fit the correct size of pattern after trying on calico
bodices for size, using the McCalls fitting shell pattern
2718. This course is purely about fitting techniques and so
no sewing equipment is needed. No previous experience
is necessary. Starter pack included but you may need to

The take you anywhere dress does what it says! It really is
perfect for any occasion. This seasons pattern is a
beautiful shift dress with a built in lace jacket with
sleeves. With this one, we will look at sleeves and how to
place them properly, as well as working with lace. It can be
a little tricky due to its loose weave, but always looks
stunning. This one is not to be missed!

Pattern Cutting Skirt BLOCK with Joyce Collins
Produce your own personal skirt pattern block to achieve
that special fit unique to you! Learn to take your
measurements correctly and then follow instructions to
calculate and draft out an individual basic skirt block. Sew
up a toile and make adjustments for your body shape and

Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine with Celia Banks
A workshop specifically made for those who are
completely new to sewing, or who would like a refresher
course on modern machines. You will learn how to thread
a machine and how to sew basic stitches and seams. The
workshop teaches you various methods of finishing seams
and simple, yet effective, styles of decorating fabric. The
project for the day is to create a fabric origami drawstring
bag, using the techniques learned during the workshop.

Next Steps with Your Sewing Machine with Celia Banks
This is a follow-up course to the “Getting to Know Your
Machine” workshop, for those who want to further
develop their skills. Techniques taught include how to
create several types of hems, buttonholes and different
methods of using bias binding. A simple method of
inserting zips leads on to creating a neat zipped bag by
the end of the day. All the techniques can be used for both
dressmaking and soft furnishing projects.

Introduction to Overlocking with Celia Banks
We are delighted to be able to offer this one-day intensive
class to unravel the mysteries of the domestic overlocker
machine. All materials and machines will be provided so that
students can learn how to use the most common features
such as three and four thread overlock, flat-lock and rolled
edges on a variety of fabrics, including using some
decorative threads. No previous experience is necessary.

This one day class is designed for those people who have
completed the “Introduction to Overlockers” class. It will
build on the skills learnt in that class and develop further
skills. Topics covered will include making spaghetti straps,
fishline hems and attaching elastic. A small project will be
completed during the day, such as a half-scale t-shirt.

Inside Out Bags with Carolyn Buxton
You will make a gorgeous little patchwork bag using
applique that can be turned inside out to give you two
completely different looks. It makes a totally re-useable
gift bag or is equally perfect to be used as a bag to tidy
away your make up etc. This is a beginner’s class to
patchwork and the skills you will learn are; how to use a
sewing machine, sew in a straight lines and turn corners,
accurate cutting with rotary cutters and rulers, using
fusible web, how to use the Sizzix machine and applique.

Introduction to English Paper Piecing
with Carolyn Buxton
In this one day workshop you will learn how to use paper
pieces to make accurate shapes and sew them together
using whip stitches. You will learn the skills to sew different
shapes and make a place mat. Design for your project
include Grandma’s Garden, Tumbling Blocks, Dresden Plate
and many more. We will look at how to hide the tails,
conquer the Y seams, troubleshooting and applique.

This is a quirky advent calendar with individual treat
pocketed ornaments that are hung on the tree each
morning as we get closer to Christmas day. Skills that will

Beginners Crochet with Jacqui Davidson
You will learn the basic crochet stitches, terms, tools and
materials to use through practical projects to enable you
to take on most beginner projects. You will learn how to
make a mobile telephone case using a crocheting in a row
pattern. You will take on the granny square, hexagon and
flower crochet in the round technique learning how to join
them together to build a final project of perhaps a blanket,
bag or scarf. Please bring along a 5mm crochet hook.

Beginners Knitting with Jacqui Davidson
You will learn the basic knit stitches, terms, tools and
materials to use through practical projects to enable you
to take on most beginner projects. You will learn how to
create a cute bunny toy using a garter stitch pattern
swatch. We will add the purl stitch into your knitting
repertoire in learning the stocking stitch pattern. You will
use all you have learnt to create your final project to take
home with you, a rib pattern neck cowl perfect for the
cooler weather.

First Steps in Crochet with Maivena Bingham
This is the class for beginners and refreshers. Maivena is
an excellent tutor and instruction will be individually
paced. Crochet grows quickly and is fun and fashionable.
We will cover how to hold the hook and yarn, how to chain
on, tension, double crochet, treble, turn edges and corners
and work within spaces to create a classic granny square
cushion, bag or scarf. You work with one hook and one
stitch at a time. Please bring along a 4mm crochet hook.

If you have the basics or are just a little bit rusty, this
workshop will take you to the next stage. Individually
paced you will learn how to read a pattern and understand
charts and symbols. We will practise increase and
decrease and master shaping. You will learn all the

Are you a complete beginner or someone who has knitted
but still not quite sure? This class will be relaxed with
simple step by step instructions and you will work at your
own pace. We will cover cast on, knit, purl, cast off and for

move on then this workshop is the next one for you.
Maivena will guide you at your own pace and you will
learn the essentials - how to read symbols and understand
