INTERNATIONAL NETWORK OF NORWAY Oslo Chamber of Commerce WEEKEND SUGGESTIONS Week 7 Winter in Oslo has been mild lately, but if it’s still too cold for you anyway, the Botanical Gardens offer a warm place at the palm and cactus house! The Botanical Gardens are open every day of the year and entrance is free of charge. There is paid parking available or you can also take any metro line to Tøyen. Remember that next week is Winter Break (vinterferie) for the schools in the Oslo area, so it is a good idea to start organising your children’s activities, in case you still have not done so. In this way, they were able to perform at the time modern music for the notables at the local copper works: minuets, polonaises, English dances, etc. Some of the resulting, unique material, a lot of which is written by the musicians themselves, has been preserved in different collections. Fiddle players Olav L Mjelva and John Ole Morken have recently gathered a star team of musicians, and recorded this music. Their album forms the basis for their performance at Riksscenen on Friday. His most recent project, the trilogy Barbarians, represents Hofesh Shechter at his most elegant and intimate. The critically acclaimed and disquieting “barbarians in love” opens the evening. Trembling with emotions, but in rigid structures, six dancers dressed in white move as one organism to the sound of ecclesiastic Baroque music. Then, two very different works unfold: an elusive explosion of dubstep rhythms in tHe bAD, followed by a touching duet. Together, the three works create a fulllength evening of dance that showcases Shechter’s wry and distinct voice and the dancers’ talent and versatility.
