Take a trip to Rådhusplassen to taste, shop and learn all about Norwegian food! Matstreif food festival, Rådhusplassen, 2nd -4th September Annual food festival with two days of activities for "foodies" of all ages. Tens of thousands of people visit Matstreif to taste, shop and learn about Norwegian food. Almost 200 exhibitors are taking part at this year's Matstreif, which will be held at City Hall Square (Rådhusplassen) and Kontraksjæret. Click here to read more about the festival. Tickets go on sale 30 August at 12 noon. Today Karpe Diem released "Gunerius", the seventh and final song in their ambitious "Heisann Montebello" project. With the first six songs, "Au pair", "Den islamske elefanten", "Hvite menn som pusher 50", "Attitudeproblem", "Hus/hotell/ slott brenner" and "Lett å være rebell i kjellerleiligheten din," Chirag Patel and Magdi Abdelmaguid have consolidated their position as Norway's most popular and influential hip-hop artists. Photo: TimeOut MAJOR EVENTS/FESTIVALS Granittrock, Free rock festival, Arena Lillomarka, Groruddalen, 2nd & 3rd September The free festival has no age limit, no alcohol and plenty of room. The arena by the forest has almost unlimited space, and the number of daily visitors gets up to 20,000 people. Rock music is the festival's main ingredient, but hip-hop also plays an important part. Bands like Turbonegro and BigBang have headlined previous Granittrock festivals. Click here for more information. Address: Bergensveien, Grorud How to get there: Metro No 5 Photo: Knut Buer Nickelback, Oslo Spektrum, 4th September at 19.30 Since their breakthrough 15 years ago, Nickelback have been one of the world's most successful bands, with over 50 million albums sold worldwide. In 2016 they are embarking on their tenth world tour, and joining them on the tour is the Canadian rock band Monster Truck. Click here to buy tickets. Photo: Norwegian Modern Photo: Oslo Spektrum Vintage design fair: Nordic Modern, 3rd – 4th September at 11-18 Norwegian Modern is a large sales fair for Scandinavian design from the period 1930– 1970. The fair presents and sells some of the very best of Scandinavian design from this period. Knowledgeable exhibitors display and sell furniture, tableware, vases, glass, ceramics, lamps, ornaments and textiles created by Scandinavian designers. The fair features several design classics, which have served as important sources of inspiration for several of today's Norwegian and Scandinavian designers. The fair is organized by the association Norwegian Modern, which consists of some of Norway's foremost retailers of Scandinavian design from 1930–1970. His first album is coming out in August, just a few weeks before this concert, featuring songs that have already received airtime on Tommy Tee's radio show National Rap show. Click here for tickets. Address: Mariboes gate 5A Magic Moments of Burt Bacharach, Den Norske Opera & Ballett, 2nd September at 19.00 Burt Bacharach is a legend both as a pianist, arranger and musical director in popular and jazz music. He has worked with artists such as Marlene Dietrich, The Carpenters, Aretha Franklin, Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles and Dianne Warwick. At this concert, The Norwegian Wind Ensemble pay tribute to Bacharach and his music with a programme that includes gems like «Walk On By», «Alfie», «What The World Needs Now Is Love», «Close to you», «That’s what Friends Are for» – and many more. Address: Kirsten Flagstads Plass 1 Nordic Tenors: Con Amore, Chat Noir Theatre, 2nd & 3rd September Nordic Tenors are known for their mastery of both opera, pop and folk songs, and comedy. This performance will be filled with beautiful musical peformances as well as good old fashioned humour. Performed in Norwegian. On this evening you can enjoy classics such as Whole Lotta Love, Communication Breakdown as well as Rock and Roll epic masterpieces like Kashmir, No Quarter, Dazed And Confused, and of course Led Zeppelin's signature song Stairway To Heaven. Once again, the sounds, grooves and melodies from the rainforests and coffee plantations have found new musical expressions. Expect lyrical guitar play, fuzz guitar, hypnotizing bass lines and feisty rhythms. Harpreet Bansal is an Indian violinist who grew up in Oslo and thus has her musical roots placed securely in both cultures. With the supporting band of Kjetil Dalland – bass, Jørn Øien – keys and Andreas Bye – drums it promises to be an entertaining evening. Click here for information and tickets Address: Karl Johan gate 35 Oral Bee & Da Playboy Foundation, Rockefeller, 3rd September at 20.00 Oral Bee is a Norwegian rapper whose west coast style was laughed at when he released his first single back in 2000. The years have past and his own brand of gangster rap has caught on with the Norwegian audience. With his fellow rappers in Da Playboy Foundation he will be "putting it down fo'sho" at Rockefeller. Enjoy hits like Tennis and Tvunget til å Bawle. Address: Torggata 16 DANCE Ina Christel Johannesen / ZVC - Future, Dansens Hus, 1st – 4th September In the performance Future, choreographer Ina Christel Johannessen puts the children in the midst of her explorations. What are we passing on to our children, the carriers of the future? The performance is developed in close collaboration with the eight dancers, who, together with a group of children, constitute the performance's ensemble. Click here to buy tickets. Address: Vulkan 1 Photo: Dansens Hus FAMILY & CHILDREN Mummitrollet and the invisible child, Oslo Nye theatre, 31st August to 15th October Children’s theatre in Norwegian language A dark rainy night, there is a knock on the door of the Mummitroll family's house. Outside is Too-Tikki, with the little girl Ninni. But Ninni is not like other children. She is in fact invisible. A wonderful story of how Ninni became visible again. Despite choosing a classical approach in both style and material, Fagerås' sculptures represent a break with the traditional. They do not depict exalted gods or heroines, but ordinary people frozen in a moment of nothing. These are sober everyday portraits and situational representations; three infants asleep, a woman scratching her hip, and an old man with a light slumped body carrying a sleeping pillow.
