NEW Cool-It™ Insulated Bowls
The safe and efficient way of cooling and stirring round bottom flasks to -78˚C.
Cool-It replaces fragile glass dewars, unstable plastic bowls and keeps your chemistry
colder for longer.
The compact and virtually unbreakable Cool-It insulated bowls are designed to fit onto a standard
stirring hotplate to cool and stir round bottom flasks, beakers, test tubes etc.
Cool-It keeps it cooler for longer...
The excellent design and insulation qualities of the Cool-It bowls keep your sample cooler for longer.
• Compared to a standard non-insulated plastic bowl Cool-It will keep your sample below -70°C
for up to 5 times longer.
• Compared to a glass dewar Cool-It will keep your reactions below -70°C for twice as long.
Optional lid increases cooling time by 20%...
Cool-It bowls come with a unique two piece lid, which is easily fitted once
your flask is in place. Using the lid can keep your reaction cool for up to 20%
longer, minimises condensation and ice formation on your flask (maintaining
visibility of the contents) and prevents spitting from the cooling mixture.
Unbreakable...
Cool-It bowls are manufactured from a robust, chemically resistant HDPE casing encapsulating
a high quality insulated foam core. The combination of tough composite materials not only provides
excellent insulation but is also durable, and unlike fragile glass dewars, Cool-It is virtually unbreakable if dropped.
Easy pour spout and handle...
Cool-It’s unique non-drip spout and ergonomically designed handle makes the disposal of waste
solvents much safer and easier than with a standard dewar or bowl; avoiding accidental spillages
and creating a safer working environment.
Large and small bowl options...
Cool-It is available in two sizes of bowl. The small Cool-It bowl is suitable for flasks up to 400ml,
and large Cool-It bowl for flasks up to 2 Litres. Both sizes have their own dedicated lid.
Protects your stirrer and minimises spills...
As well as insulating your reaction, Cool-It minimises condensation on the outer surfaces, protecting
your stirrer from frost and moisture ingress. It is also designed to fit securely onto the top plate
minimising accidental spills and the risk of the bowl being knocked off the top plate.
Small Cool-It bowl for flasks up to 400ml
Cool-It fits on to all popular brands of stirring hotplate...
Cool-It bowls are suitable for use with all stirring hotplates with a circular top plate up to 145mm in
diameter (e.g. Heidolph, Radleys). For stirring hotplates with 135mm ø top plates (e.g. IKA, Eyela,
Radleys etc) an optional top plate adapter is available if required.
Cool-It accessories...
A useful range of accessories are available including, clamp, stand, stirring hotplate, digital
thermometer, scoop, protective gloves, apron and face shield.

Heat-On™ Block System
Simply the safest, fastest, most efficient way to heat and stir a round
bottom flask from 10ml to 5 litres.
Replace messy oil baths, heating mantles, avoid spills and make your chemistry safer,
cleaner and faster.
It is accepted that oil baths and heating mantles are no longer the preferred choice of chemists to heat
round bottom flasks. The risk of oil fires and injury from hot oil spills, plus the mess associated with the
use of oil means that oil baths no longer represent safe working practice in labs. Heating mantles are
expensive, difficult to clean, do not respond well to spills and often create hot spots when heating.
Therefore scientists are increasingly turning to specially designed aluminium blocks located on stirring
hotplates to heat standard round bottom flasks.
• All Heat-On blocks are manufactured from solid aluminium providing excellent, even heat transfer
to the entire block, preventing hot spots.
• Heat-On’s weight-saving design reduces the mass of the block to be heated, making the heat-up
times significantly faster. This weight-saving design also offers faster post synthesis cool down times.
• Heat-On blocks feature a proprietary well design that eliminates cracking of flasks. This unique
design allows the blocks to have deeper wells, maximising the heated surface area to improve
heat-up times and minimising the differential between the block and solution temperature.
• Heat-On blocks have two probe holes for insertion of temperature probe/s.
• Removable lifting handles ensure safe and rapid removal of the blocks from the heat source.
• Blocks can be used up to 200˚C and 260˚C for short periods.
Heat-On accepts 10ml, 25ml, 50ml,
100ml, 150ml, 250ml, 500ml,
1 litre, 2 litre, 3 litre and
5 litre round bottom
flasks...
Fluoropolymer coating gives
superb chemical resistance...
Heat-On blocks have an innovative
fluoropolymer coating that offers
outstanding chemical resistance
to most solvents, acids and alkalis.
The coating also extends the product
life, is easy-to-clean and reduces
heat-up times. Heat-On blocks are
also available as standard with a
lower cost anodised finish if
preferred.

Storm Vs Breeze:
What’s the difference?
Storm and Breeze are both
heating and cooling work
stations, but have different
features and are therefore
suitable for different reactions and applications.
10/6/09
Page 12
NEW Storm™ & Breeze™ Heating/Cooling Work Stations
Storm & Breeze are compatible with the Carousel 6/Tornado and Heat-On as
well as any other reactors, blocks or even glass vessels that would normally
locate on to the top plate of a stirring hotplate with a diameter of 135mm.
Combined with a suitable circulator or thermoregulator these innovative work
stations can provide controlled heating and cooling from -65°C to +200°C.
Powerful heating and cooling using an external thermoregulator...
The Storm and Breeze are designed to work with all leading thermoregulators or circulators, with
thermofluids operating in the range of -85˚C to +235˚C. Use a thermoregulator with control software
to program precise heating/cooling gradients and ramps.
Storm features M24 and Breeze features M16 hose fittings. Radleys offer a full range of thermoregulators, insulated hoses, hose adapters, valves and thermofluids, as well as advice on selecting a suitable thermoregulator for your application. Fig 1 and Fig 2 below show typical heating and cooling
profiles of a Storm and Carousel 6 using a Huber 705 thermoregulator.
Storm
The larger of the two work stations
features a sophisticated internal
fluid path that combines with a high
performance insulated case to
maximise thermal transfer. These
features create a temperature
control module that has a wide
operating range with excellent heat
transfer, making Storm ideal for
steady state reactions from -65˚C
to +200˚C that require stable
temperatures for extended periods,
with minimal variation across the
heated surface.
Breeze
More compact, with a small
bench-top footprint, featuring a
removable stand for stability and
easy clamping. Breeze has no
insulation resulting in a smaller
operating range of -30°C to +165°C
but has a much faster response
time to required changes in
temperature. This makes Breeze
more suitable for applications that
require solution control such as
crystallisation studies.
Fig 1: Storm/Carousel 6 Cooling Profile using a Huber 705
Perform single reactions with Heat-On...
Storm and Breeze can also be used with the full range of Heat-On
blocks, making them ideal for controlling the temperature of individual
reactions in round bottom flasks (10ml to 5 litres). Add an overhead
stirrer and you have a controlled lab reactor.

Improving the productivity of your chemistry
NEW Storm™ Heating/Cooling Work Station
Combined with a suitable circulator or thermoregulator the powerful Storm
can provide controlled steady state heating and cooling from -65°C to +200°C.
Storm is designed to accommodate the Carousel 6/Tornado or Heat-On as well as any other
reactors, blocks and glass vessels that locate on to the top plate of a stirring hotplate with
a diameter of 135mm or larger.
Powerful, even heating...
Storm was created using computer modelling techniques to develop a unique thermofluid path design
which maximises heat transfer and minimises surface temperature variation. This, combined with the
high performance external insulation, ensures a small Delta-T between the thermofluid temperature
and the solution temperature of the reactor(s), making Storm ideal for steady state reactions.
High performance insulation...
Storm is packed with thermal insulation which minimises heat-loss, protects the user and provides
Storm with a thermofluid operating range of -85°C to +235°C, providing a reaction solution temperature
range of -65°C to +200°C.
PTFE insulating plate improves performance and energy efficiency...
A removable PTFE insulating plate has been designed to fit over the surface of the Carousel 6.
The plate not only provides a thermal barrier that improves heating/cooling performance, but it also
increases energy efficiency and reduces condensation and ice formation on the block and flasks
when cooling. The insulating plate also acts as an effective safety barrier protecting the user from
extreme surface temperatures.
Integral safety...
The insulated aluminium outer case of the Storm prevents the user from coming into contact with the
extreme temperatures of the internal thermofluid.
Fluoropolymer splash guard is
chemically resistant and prevents
heat transfer from block to
insulated outer case.
Contoured inner
