Little Carl was having dinner at Steven’s house. Trying to
help their guest, Steven’s mother asked, “Are you sure
you can cut the meat by yourself?
Carl answered, “Sure. We sometimes have ‘tough’ meat
too” at our home
Answer:
James 1:13 tells us we
should never say “God
is tempting me.” Remember that!
Trivia Question for April
What should a person never say
when they are tempted?

Knowing God Through Experience
“God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites:
I AM has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14
Too many people shut God out of their daily experiences. They wait for a crisis to hit
before they turn to Him. But, if they really want to know God, they need to look for
Him in every experience of life. He’s there, wanting to become real to them.
For years I have studied and intellectually know many of the names given to God in
the Scripture. For example, He is my refuge and strength, my defender, my deliverer,
my comforter in sorrow, the bread of life, counselor, Savior, and King of kings. But
until I experienced Him as my deliverer, refuge and strength, those names were only
names that I believed in. I did not understand the true meaning of what it was like to
have God be those names.
When I messed up and knew what I deserved, He was my righteous judge. When I
repented, I experienced Him as my Savior, deliverer, and refuge. When I felt alone,
He became my comforter. It’s just as He told Moses, “I AM everything you need.”
And not only is He what I need, He provides what I need as I seek Him. It was
through these experiences in my life that God revealed Himself and I discovered more
of who He is and how He wants to be more a part of my life.
As you spend time alone with God today, thank Him and praise Him for His constant
efforts to make Himself known to you. Ask Him to forgive you for the times you have
not looked for Him in the everyday experiences of your life. Ask Him to help you be a
witness to others by helping them see Him work in the routine of their lives. Finally,
pray that God would help you to be sensitive to His work in your life today.
Look for God in everything today.

Henry Louis "Hank" Aaron (born February 5, 1934), nicknamed
"Hammer," or "Hammerin' Hank," is a retired American baseball right
fielder who played 23 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1954
through 1976. Aaron spent 21 seasons with the Milwaukee and Atlanta
Braves in the National League (NL) before playing for the Milwaukee Brewers of the American League (AL) for the final two years of his career. Aaron is considered to be one of the greatest baseball players of all time. In
1999, The Sporting News ranked Aaron fifth on their "100 Greatest Baseball
Players" list.
After playing with the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro
American League and in the minor leagues, Aaron started his major league
career in 1954. In his final season, he was the last Negro League baseball player on a major
league roster. His most notable achievement was breaking the career home run record set by
Babe Ruth. During his career, Aaron performed at a consistently high level for an extended period of time. He hit 24 or more home runs every year from 1955 through 1973, and is the only
player to hit 30 or more home runs in a season at least fifteen times.

A Mother's Love
There are times when only a mother's love
Can understand our tears,
Can soothe our disappointments
And calm all of our fears.
There are times when only a mother's love
Can share the joy we feel
When something we've dreamed about
Quite suddenly is real.
There are times when only a mother's faith
Can help us on life's way
And inspire in us the confidence
We need from day to day.
For a mother's heart and a mother's faith
And a mother's steadfast love
Were fashioned by the angels
And sent from God above.

Message from YPD Director, Tarra Ofosu
I am so excited about our YPD program at Greater Mt. Zion AME Church to serve young people
from 2-26 years of age. We strive to please God and do everything decent and in order. Our
theme is, Back to Basics …Train a child the way they should go. This year, we plan to hold a series of trainings that will be interactive and fun to teach you about YPD history and fun facts
and give everyday examples of Christian living that are on the level for young people in our
Church.
Will also be doing a mission project every other month; in the
Month of May our Mission project will be SOLES4SOULS. This is
a wonderful way to help others who are less fortunate than us.
We will be collecting shoes every Sunday in the Month of May
and selling Lemonade or drink items to be able to ship the shoes
we collect and to purchase new shoes through the organization.
We will also be taking up a collection on 2nd Sunday for SelfDenial Week that will be sent to AME University.
We will be working on developing our Christian faith. As members of the Christian faith we have asked ourselves a few questions. Would God be pleased with how I act, talk, and present myself to others? I know some
of us will say; I don’t care what people think. Don’t get it twisted, please care what God
thinks. He sees everything and you cannot hide anything. We will strive this year to do what is
pleasing to God. I hope you will work with me in supporting our young people and helping this
be the best YPD it can be. I am dedicated and ready to do my best.
We will be meeting every 4th Sunday right after worship
service for one (1) hour and thirty (30) minutes.
YPD Needs:
Art Supplies
Gift Cards in $5 or $10 increments for prizes
Items for our Reward box
Parent Volunteers:

The Resurrection of Jesus Christ was the focus for the month of April.
The month began with Palm Sunday and its importance, with Pastor Williams giving a mini message using a chalk board to show how God can erase mistakes, just as Jesus asked his Father to do to those
who were persecuting Him. For the most important date of the month, Easter Sunday, all of the children were able to express themselves in telling what this date meant to them. It was expressed to the
children that Easter is not Bunny Rabbits, chocolate candy and eggs but that Jesus died to save us from
our sins. Stories were told of how Jesus rode a donkey into Bethlehem, and the palm leaves were laid on
the road to show humility to this great king. Many clickers were used to help the children remember
these lessons such as banks ( used to store valuables with locks, but without God in our lives we will not
be able to unlock all the good things in your life) and finally ending the month with Play Glow bracelets
and necklaces, a clicker to remind the children to let your light always shine. Thanks to the April Team
for your commitment, this was a very busy month both at 7:30am and 11:00am.
All the children were given Easter Bags filled with goodies and of course eggs. (a total of 98 bags given).
Youth Church and the Nursery is still growing and is still in need of volunteers. Please consider this ministry. Thanks to all who have pledged their commitment to this Ministry.
A special thanks to those who assisted in decorating our youth All Purpose room. Come by and take a
look. The children are enjoying it. If you desire to volunteer please see Sis Andrea Williams, Barbara
Smith or Patricia Smith. May the Peace of God be with you always and HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all
the Mothers.

Commission on Stewardship and Finance
A Point in History
In far too may many instances, considerable time and energy are spent trying to come up
with ways to raise money and elevate the stewardship of financial giving in the local church. Some ministers have done an
excellent job teaching their members in this area, while others
are still drifting, struggling to raise money the hard way and
wondering why they are not doing any better.
Historically, the African-American Church has done a masterful
job of building churches and schools, and been very supportive
in sending young people to college. The pass-the-plate way the
church was able to underwrite these significant achievements in years past will not be sufficient to perpetuate them in the future. In light of the times in which we live, many Pastors have come to understand that tithing and stewardship are the most logical means by
which we can insure the Church has the resources needed to sustain the movement. Can
you imagine what great things we could do if every member of our Church developed a
life-of-giving pattern by becoming tithers and strong financial givers?
Revolutionary
changes could take place within our communities if the same principles of tithing and
stewardship were taught by Church leaders, then put into action on a daily basis by church
members. However, it is sometimes difficult for people to emotionally accept change,
especially when they have been conditioned to doing things one particular way for so long.
All Churches are not alike. What works for one does not necessarily work for another. In
the area of financial giving, however, all churches are on common ground because all require money to do the Lord’s work according to God’s way. The question, then, is “What
perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors are manifested by the resource pool—the members—when it comes to giving in the
church?”
In the African American Church, many social, psychological, and
spiritual behaviors are exhibited during the Sunday morning worship service, particularly during collection time. These behaviors
have to do with churchgoers’ motives and reasons for giving,
which range from a sincere desire to do God’s will and aid in
Kingdom building to a selfish hope that by dropping a few dollars
in the offering plate the Pastor will leave them alone. Pastors
need to be aware of the varied motivations for giving so that
when efforts are not successful in raising money one way in the church, alternative strategies can be employed to counteract all godless, unfounded reasons for holding back,
thereby increasing the congregation’s likelihood of giving.

Great Concert Series Continues
The University of Central Florida Gospel ensemble did
not let a bit of bad weather dampen their spirits. The
group brought the house down as they praised God
from whom all blessings flow. Dr. Colbert did it again
by bringing a group of young Christian believers to
Zion. Thank you, looking forward to out next great
concert.

Things Mothers say
All of us were guided by our Mother’s voice, wisdom and
common sense, even if we didn’t think so at the time,
whether we remember what she said fondly, or try to
forget certain phrases, they are still part of us. Here are
some that I am sure you remember quite well!!
 What if everyone jumped off a cliff? Would you do it,
too?
 You are going to put your eye out with that thing.
 How many times do I have to tell you—don’t throw
things in the house.
 Don’t put that in your mouth, you don’t know where
it has been.
 Why? Why? Because I said so, that’s why.
 Don’t use that tone with me!
 Did you flush?
 You can be and do anything you want to, if you set
your mind to it.
 Be good—but if you can’t be good, be careful.
 I don’t care what “everyone” is doing, I care what
you are doing!
 Don’t talk with food in your mouth.
 Sit like a young lady!
 Don’t pick at it, it will get infected.
 I’m not just talking to hear myself talk.
 I am going to give you until the count of three.

From the Office Staff
Blessings Everyone,
Easter has come and gone; we are blessed and have so much to be thankful for. We serve a
good and gracious God who sent His only Son to atone for our sins. We should all exclaim,
Hallelujah and “Thank you Lord”.
We, here in the Office would like to take this time to say thank you for everything that you do
to help make the ministries here at Zion successful. We pray you are blessed through the information we provide you in the Newsletter. We ask that you remember our deadline for submitting your information for the Newsletter is on or before the 20th of each month. Please
be cooperative and sweet and try to adhere to our deadline, PLEASE!
Thank you.
