SKELETAL REMAINS
OF MISSING LOVERS
FOUND
The skeletal remains of
missing lovers were found in
a forest at Marvi in Vandaru
on Wednesday. A few months
back, a married woman Babi
and an unmarried man Rama
went missing on the same
day. It was suspected that
both of them had left the village after news spread that
they were into illicit relationship. When some villagers
went to fetch some leaves
from the nearby forest on
Wednesday, they found a
rope hanging from the tree.
They also found clothes and
skeletal remains of two persons beneath the tree. On the
basis of earrings, toe rings
and clothes, it is suspected
that one of the skeletons belonged to Babi and the other
to Rama. A case stands registered at Shankaranarayana
police station.

PASSES AWAY
Former Rajya Sabha member and Congress party treasurer FM Khan passed away
in Madikeri after prolonged
illness on Thursday. He was
84 and stayed away from politics during the last two years
due to illness. Khan had organised flower shows in New
Delhi when he was the MP
and came under lavish praise
from the parliamentarians
and flower lovers in the past.

KILLED BY RIVAL GANG
A rowdy-sheeter was
hacked to death by members
of rival gang in Rajajinagar

deceased has been identified
as Bharath (32), a resident
of Mahalakshmi layout. According to cops, a gang of five
to six men attacked Bharath
with weapons, while he was
chatting with his friend.
Bharath has several cases
registered against him in two
police stations and was even
sent to jail in attempt to murder case. Subramanyapura
police are investigating the
case.

SHORTAGE OF STAFF IN SCHOOLS,
GOVT TO RECRUIT 13,000 GUEST
TEACHERS
The primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanvir Sait announced
on Thursday that to fill
the shortage of staff in the
government schools, government would appoint
over 13,000 guest teachers
across the state.
“The
government
has
given permission to recruit
only 3,306 teachers for the
year. But there are over
22.000 vacancies,” the minister said while speaking to
media.
He added further that the
there will be change in the
policy of recruitment and
transfer of school teachers.
The government will recruit
the teachers at the district
level and their transfers
would be done within the
same district. They would
work and retire in the same
district, where they are recruited. This would help the
government to handle transfer pressures.
Speaking about the closing issues of the government schools the Minister
said, “We will not close any
government school due to
less students. We will run
the school anyhow. There
are 4164 school in Karnataka that have got only 10 students each. But still we will
not close them.”

failed in 10th and 12th
standard
examinations
held in April, will be able
to attend regular classes.
Students can now attend
regular classes in schools
and PU colleges. They will
be able to study in their
schools and colleges to improve their performance
next time and score better
than their previous marks.
On Thursday, Primary and
Secondary Education Minister, Tanveer Sait told that
the State Government has
amended the rule to benefit
the students which in turn
will improve their results.
He said this option is also
open to students who wish
to improve their SSLC and
PU Marks.
This rule stands applicable to schools and colleges that are affiliated to
the Karnataka Secondary
Education Board and Karnataka Pre-University Certificate Board. Until this
year, failed students used to
prepare for the supplementary examinations being at
home and were stopped
from attending regular
classes.
In the first phase, 20 wards
will be declared open defecation free wards on Independence Day and the rest
will be on Gandhi Jayanthi.
As part of the Swachh
Bharath Campaign, Chairperson of standing committee for Public health,
education and social justice
is trying to ensure the city
is open defecation free. Several measures have been
taken to construct individual and community toilets,
collection of solid waste at

households were found
without toilets. As part of
the initiative, financial assistance would be provided
to build 34 public toilets.
Mangaluru City will be
declared as Open defecation free city on October 2.

A woman has lodged a
complaint alleging that she
has been duped of Rs. 3
Lakh by a travel agency in
Udupi. She alleges that the
travel agency had promised to provide her a visa to
Finland for a job. Archana
George, a nurse by profession, a resident of Shivalli
filed a complaint against
‘Hilarious Tours and Travels’. She stated in her complaint that she came across
an advertisement by Hilarious tours and travels on
Facebook calling for applications for nursing jobs in
Finland. Seeing this Archana decided to apply. She
was asked to submit her
passport and other documents for Visa processing.
She deposited Rs. 3 Lakh in
a bank account as instructed by the agency.
The accused has been
identified as Rahul Patel,
Pranali and Manvi Prar-
so. The agency stopped all
communication with Archana and did not return her
passport and the money.
On realizing the fraud, she
filed a complaint with the
Manipal police who have
registered a case.

Chain snatcher and
police escape accident
The Bengaluru’s Central
Crime Branch (CCB) police,
and Iranian chain-snatcher
(and a black belt in Karate)
was apprehended in Pune.
But on their way back by road
with the thief, they met with
an accident in the outskirts
of Tumakuru district. The injured have been identified as
police inspectors Anand Kabburi (seriously injured), KC
Giri (minor injuries) and police constables Zabiulla Gudial
(seriously injured), Kumarswamy, Satish and Mahadev
(minor injuries). Kabburi and
Zabiulla underwent surgery at
NIMHANS and Columbia Asia
hospitals. Others including
Giri, a police constable, and
private travel agency driver
Chetan escaped with minor injuries. The incident happened
near Oorukere on the outskirts of Tumakuru at around
7am. Zabiulla was driving the
Toyota Innova (MUV) when
the accident occurred. According to the police, a truck heading towards city was in the
right lane. When Zabiulla was
about to overtake the truck
from the left, the truck suddenly swerved to the left. In
an attempt to avoid the truck
Zabiulla ran off the road, but
seeing a pit, he swerved and
hit the truck from behind.
At the time of accident, Zabiulla was driving the vehicle
while Chetan was resting in
the back seat. Anand Kabburi was in the front passenger
seat, while Giri and two constables were at the back with
chain snatcher Ali.

According to the spouse
of the deceased, Seethabai,
he was annoyed for few days
after his application for exchange was not considered
while eight different constables of the KSRP regiment
who were exchanged along
with Annarao were successful in exchange back to Kalaburagi only a few days ago.

JD(S) DEMANDS ARREST OF KJ GEORGE
The boys are school dropouts and live near the Jnanappanahalli slum. They were
rushed to Vaidehi Hospital for

to Electronics City police station. Later in the night, cops

their families after they gave
an undertaking saying they
will counsel their wards and
ensure they don’t repeat the
offence. According to eyewitnesses, the two minors were
standing near Canara Bank bus
stop and were misbehaving
with every woman passing by.
“They were whistling, passing
offensive comments and asking for their phone numbers.
Meanwhile, it started raining
and some women took shelter
inside the bus stop,” eyewitnesses said.
The boys followed them inside the shelter and continued
to harass them till an elderly
woman intervened. “The boys
told her to mind her own business. This enraged some men
at the bus stop, who attacked
the boys,” locals told police.
The men beat up the boys,
dragged them towards an electricity pole and tied them to
it. Passersby took turns to hit
them,” police said.

officials to clear pending applications before the government seeking permission
to establish manufactured
sand (M-sand) units. CM’s
direction came at a meeting
of top officials from various
departments that was convened here to discuss the
modalities to reduce the demand-supply gap for sand.

only M-sand will be used for
construction of government
buildings, bridges and other
works.
According to sources, 68
new M-sand units would
be started in two-three
months. The government
would offer 10 acres each to
the existing M-sand plants
to double their production.
The price of M-sand would
be 50% less compared to
that of river sand. Quality
testing laboratories would
be strengthened to ensure
production of good quality
M-sand.

been arrested by the police
for hacking his wife to death
in Kamakshipalya in the city
on Thursday. Incidentally
the couple had filed for a
mutual divorce recently at
the family court.

driver. As the time passed,
there were quarrels and
fights at home between both

and in a fit of rage Puneeth

Schools, colleges to remain closed for Kawad
Yatra
All schools and colleges
in the district will remain
closed from July 24 to August
1 in view of the ‘Kawad’ Yatra. District Magistrate DK
Singh said the authorities
have ordered that all schools
and intermediate colleges be
closed from July 24 to August
1.Kawad Yatra is annual pilgrimage of devotees of Shiva
to Haridwar, Gaumukh and
Gangotri in Uttarakhand and
Sultanganj in Bihar to fetch
holy water of Ganga, which
is later offered at their local
Shiva temples. This year the
Yatra started on July 19 and
ends on August 1.
IAF’s transport plane
with 29 on board goes
missing
An Indian Air Force’s AN

missing with 29 people on
board, including six crew
members, while it was on its
way from near Chennai to
Port Blair, home to tri-service command. A massive
search and rescue operation
has been launched by the IAF,
Navy and the Coast Guard,
deploying five aircraft and 13
ships for tracking the plane

contact at 0846 hours, 16
minutes after take off from
Tambaram air base. The

a navigator besides personnel from the Navy and the
Army. “The plane, which was
on a routine courier service,
took off at about 0830 hours
from Tambaram and it was
scheduled to land at Port

harnessing 1,000 MW of

and in this regard we have set
a target of harnessing 1,000

A school founder was
arrested for taking a bribe
of Rs one lakh from a teacher at Khalapur in Raigadh
district, the ACB said.

founder of a school at Umbre in Khalapur, was allegedly caught taking the
money at Nerul branch
of Abyuday Bank in Navi

The new railway line

demand of the people.

TWO HARDCORE MAOISTS SURRENDER IN

in connection with a

killed eight policemen
in the district along

Stiftung launched a new Sustainable Development Goal
Index and Dashboard to provide a report card for tracking Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) progress
and ensuring accountability.
The index collected avail-
able data for 149 countries
to assess where each country stands in 2016 with regard to achieving the SDGs.
It ranks countries based
on their performance across
the 17 global goals, a set of
ambitious objectives across
the three dimensions of sustainable development economic development, social
inclusion and environmental
sustainability, underpinned
by good governance.
The index helps countries
identify priorities for early
actions and shows that every country faces major challenges in achieving the SDGs.
“The Sustainable Development Goals are stretch
goals, but they are within
reach if countries work towards them with clarity and
determination. The SDG Index and Dashboard can help

practical path for achieving

“The government is allotting Rs 25,000 crore every year in the budget for
irrigation projects. Every
month Rs 2,100 crore will
be allotted to the Irrigation
Department for spending on
various projects.
“The Government is also
determined to continue free
power scheme, which is
costing Rs 4,000 crore per
annum to the exchequer, for
farmers,” Rao said.
By redesigning some of
the irrigation projects, the
Government will be able to
use at least 1,000 tmc water

NO MORE TENURE AFTER NINE YEARS IN OFFICE:
LODHA PANEL TO STATE ASSOCIATIONS
New Delhi: The Supreme
Court-appointed
Lodha
Committee on Thursday
clarified to the state associations that any office-bearer who has cumulatively
or separately completed
nine years in office before
or after July 18 will be disqualified from contesting
elections.
Sources told reporters that the committee on
Thursday sent an e-mail
communication to BCCI
President Anurag Thakur
and secretary Ajay Shirke
asking them to inform the
state associations with
queries in this regard.
The two questions asked
by a number of state associations are:
1) Are individuals who
have cumulatively completed nine years as Office
Bearers of a State Association disqualified from again
becoming office bearers?
2) Is the 9-year disqualification period to be reckoned only commencing
from the date of the judgment (18.07.2016) or does
it include tenures as office
bearers prior to that date?
The committee in their
clarification pointed out:
1) Any individual who
has cumulatively completed a period of nine years as
an Office Bearer of a State
Association stands disqualified from contesting elections or holding a post in
the Association.
2) This will apply to any
person as of the date of the
election, and will include
periods prior to the date of
the judgment (18.07.2016).
“So that there is no
doubt, if any individual
has completed 9 years as
an office bearer (wheth-
er through consecutive or
separate terms; whether in
one post or another) of the
State Association by or before 18.07.2016, that individual stands disqualified,”
it stated.
The committee also requested BCCI to ensure
that state associations are
informed in this regard.
“This clarification may
be kindly intimated to the
various State and Member
Associations, so that individual missives to either
the BCCI or this Committee
on this count may be avoided. This is in addition to the
direction sent on Wednesday that the BCCI and the
State Associations put on
hold all elections and electoral processes,” it concluded.

‘KABALI’ RELEASES ACROSS THE
COUNTRY AMID FAN FRENZY

of the actor were erected
outside theatres, as the
film had created much

the drama typical of a Rajinikanth release.
Fans made merry re-
producing his famous
punch line ‘kabali da’ and
other dialogues after the
show with some of them
carrying tickets for more
screenings the same day
as they had missed some
parts because of the
cheering and shouting inside theatres.
The Tamil drama, which
has also been dubbed in
Hindi and Telugu, ran to
packed houses in metros
like Mumbai, Hyderabad,
Rajinikanth had a special screening of the Pa
Ranjith- directed movie
in the US where he is holidaying.
The ‘Neruppuda’ song
from the film is already
a chartbuster. Santosh
Narayanan has scored
the music for the film,
which also stars Radhika
Apte, Dhanshika and Kalaiarasan in key roles.
Rajinikanth’s last two
releases “Lingaa” and “Kochadaiyaan” had bombed
at the box office but fans
are happy to see the ‘Rajini magic’ back in “Kabali”.
They say it has washed
away the disappointment
of his last two films.
The film released to
packed houses across
Kerala, where tickets
were sold in advance and
many of theatres showed
‘houseful’ boards. It was
released in over 300
screens across the Kerala.
Meanwhile, fans who
had flown from Bengaluru
to watch a special screening as part of an arrangement with Air Asia, complained of a rescheduling
of timing and screening
place.
They insisted that they
wanted to watch the movie along with the actor’s
fans in a Chennai theatre
as promised but were
offered a screening elsewhere.
The company said
there was a mistake on its
part in not informing the
rescheduling and assured
to compensate the fans.
