2009 Financials Letter from the CEO Board of
Letter from the CEO Last year was filled with laughter as the residents participated in picnics, bingo, bowling, and birthday parties. However, we also experienced some sadness in 2009. In October, one of our residents passed away at the age of 70. While we grieved over the death of our friend, we were able to celebrate a success story. Because of the financial support provided by our donors, Wayne was able to live in dignity surrounded by people who truly cared for him until the day he left this earth. This is a story that would not have been possible if it were not for the gifts of many loving people. At Rainbow Omega, we are held to, and surpass, the same standards of health, medical care, public inspection and professional training as other institutional programs. However, our work has two additional components that are unique from other programs. At Rainbow Omega, we live the gospel values of loving and respecting the needs of every person, and we have made a commitment to serve adults with developmental disabilities, not for a few months or years, but for the remainder of their lives. Rainbow Omega has experienced steady and managed growth for the past 14 years, including the addition of homes, the completion of an intermediate care facility, and the soon to be constructed vocational training center. As you may know, Rainbow Omega hosts regional fundraising dinners, generates income from greenhouses, and welcomes planned gifts to sustain our annual operating budget of more than $5 million. In return, we pledge to foster the spiritual, emotional, educational and developmental well being of each resident. 2009 Financials INCOME We provided a total of 174 days of respite care for 22 different families. The realization that they could not care for Chris in their senior years lead them to plan for his future. Christopher Carpenter’s life, though simple to many, was the gift that resulted in the formation of Rainbow Omega. Ironically, and true to the Greek meaning of his name, Christopher (Christ bearer) has carried the hopes and answered the prayers of many other similar families. In Memory of Wayne Fuller (April 22, 1939 - October 6, 2009) Stentson Carpenter Chairman Eastaboga, AL Vance Moore, M.D. Vice Chairman Anniston, AL Ronald Hubbard, Secretary Anniston, AL 4,515,721.00 Mary Ann Crump Treasurer Anniston, AL Contributions Fundraising Events Fees for Service Vocational Income ICF-MR Income Grants Income from Greenhouse Miscellaneous The residents grew and cared for 17,640 plants in 2009. Michael Adams Marietta, GA In 2008, the Board of Directors established The Christopher Society to permanently and exclusively recognize those thoughtful individuals and families who have completed a deferred gift in their will or estate plan to carry forward Rainbow Omega’s mission. Christopher Society Members: We appreciate your continued support in 2010 and hope that you will make time to tour our campus when you have the opportunity. I’m sure you will be pleased with the outcome of your support. Board of Directors 23 Youth groups from across the Southeast volunteered on campus in 2009. Some groups stayed for just a few hours and hosted picnics while others stayed for a full week working on various projects throughout our campus.
