SP Communications asked Bergen dentists to nominate one or more colleagues in the county they would
choose in seeking dental care (excluding themselves). The Super Dentists research team investigated further
and searched for exceptional dentists to complement the results. Candidates were evaluated on indicators of
peer recognition, professional achievement and disciplinary history. Dentists were grouped into seven specialties.
Professionals with the highest scores from each grouping were invited to serve on a blue-ribbon panel and
asked to evaluate the candidates in their specialty. Finally, dentists who acquired the highest total points from the surveys,
research and blue-ribbon panel review were selected for inclusion in Bergen’s Top Dentists.

Dr. Robert DeFalco combines exemplary surgical skills with
compassionate patient care. The oral and maxillofacial
surgeon is particularly interested in jaw surgery and facial

receiving his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from UMDNJ, Dr.
Carcara went on to complete a residency at Hackensack University
Medical Center. Dr. Carcara specialized in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics at SUNY Buffalo, where he also received his
Master of Science Degree in Orthodontics and Oral Biology. His
published research on long-term retention of orthodontic treatment has been cited in lectures worldwide. Presently serving as
chairman of continuing education for the New Jersey Association
of Orthodontists, Dr. Carcara remains abreast of the most
advanced techniques in orthodontics. He has been voted a repeat
New Jersey Monthly and (201) Health Top Dentist and was a New

Dr. Michael W. Klotz, a Ho-Ho-Kus Prosthodontist, has
one simple goal: to make his patients’ teeth “comfortable,
functional, and as natural looking as possible.” As a boardcertified Posthodontist, he specializes in implant, esthetic
and reconstructive dentistry with expertise ranging from
porcelain veneers, crowns, bonding and whitening, to
bridges, dentures, and implant-supported restorations.

and a unique combination of science and artistry, Dr. Klotz
and his dental team can literally redesign a smile.
While they specialize in complex implant and reconstructive dentistry, Dr. Klotz and his team also treat routine

University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, he
completed a competitive three-year Prosthodontic
residency at the University of Connecticut School of Dental
Medicine. At UConn, he completed research involving the
biomechanics of dental implants and earned his Master’s
degree in Dental Science. He continued his education
with a fellowship program in Maxillofacial Prosthetics at
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. While at
MSKCC, he treated the complex dental needs of patients
with head and neck cancer as well as patients with cleft lip
and palate. He has won numerous awards in prosthodontics and lectures frequently on various topics of prosthodontics and implant dentistry.
Dr. Klotz’s office provides the latest in advanced technology so that his patients can truly understand and
appreciate their dental situation. An intraoral camera takes
photos of chips, cracks and cavities and allows patients to
view these issues. Digital radiographs are utilized, which
expose patients to lower levels of radiation than
film-based x-rays. They are also quicker and friendlier to
the environment with less waste and chemicals used in the
process. Dr. Klotz also uses a soft tissue laser to better
address gum issues with his patients. This allows him to
perform gum procedures with no bleeding or need
for stitches.
Dr. Klotz’s office is conveniently located in Ho-Ho-Kus,

Dr. Jeffrey Gordon, a periodontist
trained at the Harvard School of Dental
Medicine, uses his more than 20 years
of clinical research experience to formulate optimal treatment options for
his patients. Understanding that every

He served as chairman of Columbia University’s 1852 Society, the Dean’s Advisory Council, and as a school liaison representing Columbia’s dental
school throughout the U.S. He is past president of the Northeast American Academy of Implant Dentistry, a Fellow in the Greater New York Academy of
Prosthodontics, a Fellow in the International Society of Osseointegration, and a founding member of the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health.
