March 2007 - Oldsmobile Club of Arizona
MARCH 2007
20th ANNUAL ALL OLDSMOBILE SHOW
by Gloria Varley
On Saturday, February 24th the Oldsmobile Club of Arizona held it’s 20th
annual All Oldsmobile Show at the Rock N’ Roll McDonald’s in the
Scottsdale Pavilions Shopping Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. The show
was kicked off with a Welcome Dinner the evening before with over 60
people present and lots of good food. After worrying all week about
whether it was going to rain or not, the weather was perfect. It was a
little cool for those who set up in the morning, but for the rest of the show
it was in the 60’s and sunny. That is certainly better than the 90 degree
weather we had a few years ago! Although the show was not quite as big
as last years, we still had over 100 cars in attendance, including cars from
Arizona, Texas, California, Wisconsin, Washington, and Canada.
Oldsmobile Club of America President, Pat Yancey and his wife Margaret
brought a group of cars with him from Texas. The folks from Canada won
the Long Distance Award for driving their 2003 Aurora over 2,000 miles to
come to the show. Not only did we have a great time and see a bunch of
nice cars, we raised over $500 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

NEXT MEETING, SATURDAY, MARCH 24, 2007
The next meeting of the Oldsmobile Club of Arizona will be held on Saturday, March 24th at 4:00 p.m. The meeting
place is the Oriental Garden restaurant located in the Scottsdale Pavilions Shopping Center, Loop 101 & Indian Bend Rd.
In conjunction with our meeting, there is a car show at the Rock ‘N Roll McDonalds. We have a row reserved in the
McDonalds parking lot exclusively for our club members on the 4th Saturday of every month. This is a great time to
have a meal and talk with olds friends. Come out and enjoy the fun.
CRUISE & EAT TO GREASEWOOD FLAT IN SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA ON MARCH 10TH – DATE CHANGE
On Saturday, March 10th meet us at Greasewood Flat bar & restaurant at 2:00 p.m. for lunch. This is the original
stagecoach stop between Fort McDowell and Phoenix. It is housed in a 120-year-old bunkhouse. The elevation is 2000
feet above the valley floor making the night air 10 degrees cooler. Greasewood has served up hearty burgers and some
wicked libations to cowboys, bikers, locals, and tourists alike. The seating area is outdoors. You come out, stake your
claim on a picnic table then enjoy the cold drinks, some good food, and live music starting at 3:00 p.m. Some members
may go to McDonald’s afterwards for the Saturday night car show (no reserved row). See the flyer for more details.
SPRING PICNIC AT PICACHO PEAK PARK – SATURDAY, APRIL 7TH – DATE CHANGE
Our annual spring picnic will be held on Saturday, April 7th, at Picacho Peak State Park, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
We have the large Quail Ramada reserved. The picnic will be potluck style with the club providing the main course. The
club will also provide the drinks, and all paper & plastic products. We ask that member’s whose last name begins
with A-Q to bring a side dish, and R-Z a dessert item. Please bring a serving utensil for your dish. We will meet in
the parking lot that is directly west of Bank of America on the SW side of I-10 & Elliott at 9:30 a.m. to drive to the park
as a group (approximately 1/4 mile west of I-10). Bring your walkie-talkies to help keep the caravan together. When
you arrive at the park, sign in at the office to get a parking pass. Tell the park ranger that you are with the Oldsmobile
Club and you will get in for free (the club is picking up the tab). Remember to wear your name badge.
AMERICAN GRAFFITI NIGHT AT THE DRIVE-IN – SATURDAY, MAY 19TH
Join us at the Scottsdale Six Drive-In Theatre on Saturday, May 19th. Bring your family and your old car and let’s relive
some old fashioned fun! The club will be providing sandwiches, drinks, and taking care of your sweet tooth. We will
decide what movie to see a few days before the event via a democratic vote of all who RSVP. See the flyer for more
details.
PACIFIC SOUTHWEST ZONE SHOW – JUNE 1st – 2nd
The Pacific Southwest Zone Show is taking place on June 1st & 2nd in Morro Bay, California. There will be a welcome
party Friday evening, the car show takes place on Saturday, and an awards banquet on Saturday night. This is a
national point’s style car show. If you’ve never been to a national meet this show would be a great starting point for
you. If we get a group of people interested in going we will arrange a caravan to leave on Friday morning, June 1st,
and come back on Sunday, June 3rd. If you are planning on attending, please let Kerry Warrick know so you can be
included in any caravan plans. Make your hotel reservations right away because they will be full soon. It is
suggested that you order the Saturday box lunch because there is nothing open at lunch time, but you can get
sandwiches in the lounge after 2:00 p.m. (there are no restaurants within walking distance). The host hotel has a
breakfast buffet every morning in the lounge, and their restaurant is open for dinner every night of the week. See the
show flyer/registration form for more information.
