Premier’s products – civil applications (mining)
Bulk explosives (Dynex series)
Description
 State of the art explosives manufactured at mining site
 Delivered by mobile units to the actual site of blast and into the bore
holes
Application
 Suitable for large open cast projects which consume large quantity of
explosives
 Delivered down the hole in tailor made combinations to meet the
blasting needs

16
Premier’s products – civil applications (mining)
Cast booster (Boostex)
Description
Cast booster is a mixture of high explosives PETN and TNT, cast into a
mould. The mould has channels that run through the body for insertion of a
detonator or detonating cord.
Application
Used in blasting operations with relatively insensitive bulk explosives. The
detonator or detonating cord initiates the cast booster, which in turn initiates
bulk explosives.

Premier’s products – civil applications (mining)
Detonating cord
Description
Detonating cord is a reliable, flexible, water proof fuse having PETN core
with high tensile strength and abrasion resistance
Application
Used to simultaneously detonate explosive charges across a fairly large
area from a single detonator
___________________________________________________________
19
Premier’s products – civil applications (non-mining)
Mob control devices
Tear gas grenades are non-lethal devices using OR, CR or CS chemical
fumes
Tear gas
grenade
Mob is dispersed because of temporary irritation caused by the
lachrymatory fumes / vapour of OR/CR/CS which cause irritation to
eyes, skin and breathing.
The effect wears out after 30 to 40 minutes.
Cloud harvesting flares
Hygroscopic chemicals are dispersed in the clouds
to increase the precipitation.

Premier’s products – defence applications
Solid propellants
Description
Typical solid propellant is a mixture of ammonium perchlorate powder (an
oxidizer) and aluminium powder (a fuel), held together in a base of HTPB
(rubber-like fuel). The mixture is first formed as a slurry, then cast into
required shape and finally cured into a rubbery solid.
Application
As propulsion system for rockets & missiles

Pyro cartridges
Description
A pyro cartridge is an electrical initiator. It is used to initiate the
explosive train for specific applications. Pyro cartridge functions on
receiving the electrical energy, produces flame with hot gases and solid
particles to ignite the contents of the igniter for propellant combustion.
Models
PC-25 DQ, PC-50 DQ and PC-100 DQ

Premier’s products – defence applications
Pyrogen igniters
Pyrogen igniter is a small rocket motor used to ignite a large rocket motor. The
propulsive force of a solid rocket motor is derived from the controlled
combustion of the solid propellant fuel at high temperatures and pressures.
The function of the igniter is to ensure reliable and sustainable ignition of the
main motor with predictable delay period.

Premier’s products – defence applications
Squibs

A Squib is an initiator of explosive train

It is a miniature explosive device, used for generating mechanical force,
flash or pyrotechnic effects

Premier manufactures a wide variety of squibs like Squib No.2, Simulated
squib, Instantaneous squib and delay squib

Premier also makes tailor-made squibs to meet specific requirements

Premier’s products – defence applications
Smoke markers/ Smoke generators
 It produces coloured smoke when in contact with sea water or
initiated electrically
 These are used in Navy for identifying the areas of recovery
Explosive Bolt
 Explosive bolts are meant for opening the front and rear covers
of the transport and launch vehicles or disconnecting two
stages/parts.
 They consist of steel bolt with a notch for shearing. On receiving
the electrical signal, a small charge fires and it parts into two
pieces.

33
Premier’s market potential - explosives
In a developing country like India infrastructure development would
rank the highest priority and this augurs well for the mining and
construction industry.
Consequently this will create demand for bulk explosives, packaged
explosives, detonators, detonating cord and other accessories.

Premier’s R&D
Knowledge an Asset
Premier believes that
 Success of businesses depends greatly on the degree of value
addition.
 As the operational efficiencies reach equal levels
competitors, ‘knowledge’ will become the differentiator
amongst
Above philosophy led Premier
 To set up explosive manufacturing plants with indigenous technology
30 years ago when others have been importing technology
 To continually engage in innovations to enhance quality, to minimise
costs and to assure customer satisfaction.

40
Premier’s R&D – leading to patents
Patent applied for
‘A Novel Safe Lead-free Detonator’
Conventionally used detonators contain primary explosives like lead azide and
lead styphnate, which are very sensitive to friction and impact. Hence handling
of these detonators is highly risky.
The new detonator invented by Premier does not contain those lead salts,
making the detonators safer to handle.
There were alternative detonators developed by others previously, but they were
more expensive, whereas this new detonator costs on par with the conventional
ones.
