All transportation modes require some of the same information, however, each mode also requires unique information specific to that method. When deciding on a TMS, it is also important to understand which services need optimization for efficiency and productivity. Select a TMS with an easy-to-use end-customer experience that connects the business with the customer. Also consider making electronic data interchange an integral part of the communication efforts. When considering the fine details of how a TMS can affect operations, it is equally important to review the level of interaction the operations staff requires for order processing. With lean inventories and integrated supply chains, shippers are turning to expedited carriers for capacity management, better security and a host of other premium solutions. The FedEx unit, the nation’s largest expedited carrier, notched $375 million in revenue, up 14 percent from last year. The expedited trucking sector is in the midst of a sustained period of growth. Each of the five biggest U.S. expedited carriers recorded healthy revenue in 2011. Combined revenue from the top five carriers, totaled $938 million in 2011. Current growth rates are healthy and appear to be more sustainable and lasting. Volume 10, Issue 3 Page 3 Me, Myself & I— Lisa Anne Vo Hi, I’m Lisa Anne Vo and I have worked in the FMI accounting department for nine years. Although I have spent most of my adult life in California, I was born in Saigon City, Vietnam. At age thirteen, my parents and I migrated to the United States. I only have one brother who is 18 years older than me and he still lives in Vietnam with his wife and son. I started my first job at 16 working at my aunt’s floral shop in Huntington Beach taking orders, assisting with floral arrangements, etc. I had many careers before I came to FMI. I was a Secretary, Legal Assistant, Office Manager, Grocery Store Assistant Manager, etc. Essentially, the supermar- ket is where I was first able to put into practice the accounting skills I had been learning in school. My job after the supermarket was with a transportation company in Huntington Beach as an Accounting Clerk which led me to Freight Management in 2003. I started getting familiar with the industry and FMI procedures. In 2007, I Fun Facts About was promoted to Accounting Manager. Working at FMI is like working for your family. It is a pleasure working with everyone here. I appreciate everyone for their team work, which has allowed me learn more and more each day. I enjoy every moment. I met my wonderful husband Timmy while I was working at the law firm and we were married four years later. We have been happily married for 13 years. We bought our first house last year in Westminster and love it! We enjoy hanging out with friends and family and entertaining people at our house. My father past away in August 2005, however, I was fortunate that I still have my Mom who only lives only two blocks from us. July 4th! Independence Day was first celebrated in Philadelphia on July 8, 1776. In 1776, there was an estimated 2.5 million people living in the newly independent nation compared to 313.9 million people today. The Fourth of July was not declared a national holiday until 1941. The Declaration of Independence was signed by 56 men for 13 colonies. Over an estimated 150 million hot dogs will be consumed on the 4th. That’s roughly 1 dog for every 2 people in the U.S. The stars on the original American flag were arranged in a circle to ensure that all colonies were equal. An estimated $232.3 million in fireworks were imported from China in 2011 for the holiday. So Near Yet So Far Alix Partners surveyed 80 large international companies about where they were sourcing their U.S.-bound products. 42% said they already have moved manufacturing to North America or plan to start manufacturing there within 3 yrs. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager suddenly remembers that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return to the people. On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person. Now each person paid $10 and got back $1, so they paid $9 each, totally $27. The bellboy has $2, totaling $29. Where is the missing $1? Fax or email answers and address to 714-632-7221 or krunkle@freightmgmt.com to collect your prize. Winners will be announced monthly.
