With 61,000 readers, Ugeskrift for Læger is an important source for medical news, debate, health and medical politics as well as work environment. The magazine is published by the Danish Medical Association (Lægeforeningen), with approximately 27,611 members. The Danish Medical Association is a lobby organization comprised of members from the following doctors’ trade unions: • Danish Association of Junior Hospital Doctors(YL): 11,487 members • Danish Association of Medical Specialists (FAS): 8,205 members • Organisation of General Practitioners (PLO): 5,203 members • Members only of the Danish Medical Association: 2,126 members • Doctors abroad: 590 members Nearly all Danish doctors are members of the Danish Medical Association. Ugeskrift for Læger is published on Mondays and is distributed to the doctors’ home addresses. Other readers include medical students, nurses, dentists, physical therapists, midwives as well as the medical industry, pharmacies and other decision makers within the health sector. An analysis conducted by TNS Gallup in 2014 shows that 90% of the Danish Medical Association’s members read the print edition. 70% of the members always read or read at least 3 out of 4 numbers, and 79% spend more than 15 minutes reading the magazine. 74% read the email newsletter. 60% of the readers are women and 40% men, typically married or cohabiting (72%). The readers are predominantly homeowners living in a house/villa (56%). More than half of the readers (52%) have an annual household income of DKK 600,000 or more.
