A N O T E F R O M WC U P R E S I D E N T M A R Y C A R VA L H O Merry Christmas! It never ceases to amaze me how the holidays generate such profound joy. I feel fortunate to be part of Waukesha Choral Union, a group of talented vocalists who not only dedicate themselves to perfecting their art, but also so generously share their music with people like you who appreciate the effort. This Christmas, we are proud to present an eclectic program carefully crafted by our new Artistic Director Michael Chapel. He has woven together selections intended to introduce you to what may be the unfamiliar as well as delight you with Christmas favorites. We also extend our tradition of an audience participation sing-a-long. Thank you so much for your patronage. Your support helps Waukesha Choral Union continue our active community participation that is 60-years strong. On behalf of everyone at WCU, I wish you and yours all the joy and wonder of the season! The Waukesha Choral Union is thrilled to present our annual holiday concert once again at St. Luke’s in Waukesha and at St. Catherine’s in Oconomowoc. For each, we are very grateful for the use of the sanctuary for our performance today. For many, the Christmas season is not really begun until they hear music of the holiday season. The music provides, in varied settings and arrangements – joyous, festive, warm or reflective moods – to which we enjoy returning year after year. The first half of this year’s program will feature a cappella music, mostly of old – and much will be familiar. After intermission, we will perform some contemporary, though familiar, literature – and we will also ask you to join us in performing traditional Advent “sing-a-long” literature. Our season-long theme of “How Can I Keep from Singing” will continue in April, as Handel’s “Messiah” will return us to Shattuck on Sunday, April 3. We will close our season in early May with ‘Folksongs of the Americas’ (folk music from North, Central and South America) – as well as Gabriel Faure’s masterpiece: Requiem. I wish you and your family a healthy and happy holiday season. Thank you for your continuing support of the arts in your community. We cannot do what we do without you and your generous patronage. A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all!
