Roberto Wake up to…Jesus; Wake up to…your Catholic faith; Wake up to…dropping your nets. “Angels-in-Training” Babysitting at 10:30 Mass Every Week for children 2-6! In the Serendipity Room beneath the rectory. Jesus Descended into Hell During Lent, we professed the Apostles’ Creed at our Masses instead of the Nicene Creed. One of the most interesting lines of the Apostles’ Creed is “He descended into Hell.” So, did Jesus go to hell between his death and resurrection? The answer is “yes” and below is the explanation of this line given in the Catechism of the Catholic Church complete with footnotes below. #632 The frequent New Testament affirmations that Jesus was "raised from the dead" presuppose that the crucified one sojourned in the realm of the dead prior to his resurrection.477 This was the first meaning given in the apostolic preaching to Christ's descent into hell: that Jesus, like all men, experienced death and in his soul joined the others in the realm of the dead. But he descended there as Saviour, proclaiming the Good News to the spirits imprisoned there.478 http://www.calledtocommunion.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/ChristDescent-into-Hell.jpg #633 Scripture calls the abode of the dead, to which the dead Christ went down, "hell" - Sheol in Hebrew or Hades in Greek - because those who are there are deprived of the vision of God.479 Such is the case for all the dead, whether evil or righteous, while they await the Redeemer: which does not mean that their lot is identical, as Jesus shows through the parable of the poor man Lazarus who was received into "Abraham's bosom":480 "It is precisely these holy souls, who awaited their Saviour in Abraham's bosom, whom Christ the Lord delivered when he descended into hell."481 Jesus did not descend into hell to deliver the damned, nor to destroy the hell of damnation, but to free the just who had gone before him.482 #634 "The gospel was preached even to the dead."483 The descent into hell brings the Gospel message of salvation to complete fulfilment. This is the last phase of Jesus' messianic mission, a phase which is condensed in time but vast in its real significance: the spread of Christ's redemptive work to all men of all times and all places, for all who are saved have been made sharers in the redemption. http://lifechurchknoxville.com/ wp-content/uploads/2013/03/ Jesus-descended-into-hell.jpg #635 Christ went down into the depths of death so that "the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live."484 Jesus, "the Author of life", by dying destroyed "him who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and [delivered] all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage."485 Henceforth the risen Christ holds "the keys of Death and Hades", so that "at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth."486 477 ⇒ Acts 3:15; ⇒ Rom 8:11; ⇒ I Cor 15:20; cf. ⇒ Heb 13:20. 478 Cf. ⇒ I Pt 3:18-19. 479 Cf. ⇒ Phil 2:10; ⇒ Acts 2:24; ⇒ Rev 1:18; ⇒ Eph 4:9; ⇒ Pss 6:6; ⇒ 88:11-13. 480 Cf. ⇒ Ps 89:49; ⇒ I Sam 28:19; ⇒ Ezek 32:17-32; ⇒ Lk 16:22-26. 481 Roman Catechism 1, 6, 3. 482 Cf. Angel A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?" "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you." The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy." God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy." Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?" God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak." "And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?" God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray." "Who will protect me?" God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it's life." "But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore." God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you." At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name." "You will simply call her, 'Mom.'" -Anonymous Mobile Mall News Schedule of Events Distribution May 17, 2014 Shopping from 10am-12pm Jack London Elementary School 4550 Country Hills Drive in Antioch Sorting June 14, 2014 Sorting from 8am-12pm Holy Rosary Dominican Hall Distribution St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive Our volunteers at St. Vincent de Paul need our help.
