The 13th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival takes place
from 29 November to 7 December 2013
The forms of creativity represented by the selection express both a vision of the
cinematographic experience in question, and current issues in the societies which the
filmmakers are dealing with. We are the privileged observers of creativity in movement,
which takes hold of mankind and the world to offer us some personal, powerful, audacious,
and courageous works, for which Marrakech is the fortunate showcase.
These creators feed the festival with their talents, whether acknowledged or soon-to-be
recognized. More than 110 films from 23 nationalities will be screened during the event. As
with every year for the past 12 years, the accent will be on discovery in the competition,
which comprises 15 films. The section “Cinema at heart” will illustrate a Moroccan cinema
sector that is approaching maturity. The out-of-competition films will distill the perfume of
directors in touch with their audiences, while the Cinécoles program of short films will reveal
the filmmakers of tomorrow.
If we add the eminent jury members, the masterclasses and the tributes that will take place,
we redraw a geographical map where Marrakech becomes, for eight days, the center of the
cinematographic world. As messengers of art, filmmakers transmit beauty, truth and the
desire for pleasure, sometimes violent but always renewed. So the festival invents a new
travelling shot.
