I hope that all of our Pontiac Club members had an enjoyable holiday season. This will be our first Newsletter of 2015 and this will also mark my tenth year as serving as your club President. I had to look back to some of my first articles and newsletters to confirm this. While doing so, I read a couple of my first articles as your President. We have come a long way. I have seen many Pontiacs come and go in our club; memberships that reached an all-time high of approximately 53 at one time. With my anniversary, I want to focus on boosting club membership. I see that our club has seen some decline in membership as of late so I want to generate more participation in club events starting with the Autorama indoor car show. The dates have been set for March 1315 this year at the Coliseum exhibit halls. Our club had a great display last year and I hope to get a great group of Pontiacs again this year. I will bring entries for you to fill out the day of our January meeting. We did have a great Christmas party last month at the San Antonio Target club. Mike and Angie Prescher once again volunteered to cook a delicious Christmas dinner of pork loin and chicken. I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation for their hard work cooking and hosting the event at the shooting club meeting room. I also want to thank everyone that brought side dishes and desserts to compliment the great meal. I will give a full recap at the meeting. One Note: Ralph Gaines notified me that the Camaro club has scheduled their annual car show for Sunday April 12 at Ancira Winton Chevrolet. I hope that we could have a great showing of Pontiacs there as well. Our next meeting is on Tuesday January 13 at Salsalito Mexican restaurant located at 14535 Nacogdoches Rd. at 7:00 pm. I look forward to seeing you there! PONTI-YAKKIN 1 Bastrop Veteran’s Day Car Show Many Pontiac Models Shown Submitted by Penny SanMarco What a perfect day for a car show. We should be so lucky. And there were over 255 cars there. It is held in Historic Old Town and the streets and side streets were lined with a great assortment of classics and some of the new age examples. We traveled with the Olds Club since they were leaving from Bucees in New Braunfels. It was surprising how many Pontiacs were there including Matt Taggart’s GTO. The new owner of that car is from Australia and a friend of ours from the New Braunfels Club is a classic car broker who found the GTO for him. It will be leaving for Australia soon to join the group of Pontiacs already in his area. Don’t know what it is about Australians and American Classic Cars. There were two couples attending one of the conventions a few years ago. They flew into the west coast, picked up a Bonneville purchased off eBay and drove that car across the west part of the US (without A/C) and met up with the Grand Prix Chapter at the Pontiac Museum. Then the second couple picked up their Pontiac from the area and they drove those two Pontiacs back to the west coast to ship them to Australia. And there are always some Aussies attending the conventions. Ralph Gaines was not with the Olds group this time. I guess if we went to Biff’s more we would have known he broke bones in both feet/ankles not too long ago and will not be able to get around on his own for some time. Sorry to hear about that Ralph! Those ladders are mean tools at times. There was an awesome assortment of military vehicles and armament on display also. A great touch for a Veteran’s Day celebration. Many Veterans in attendance to visit with and those that brought the vehicles were there to talk about them.
