HELLO CUSTOMER,
DeTye Vet Supply is starting our 16th year of
business. It seems like just yesterday that
Tyler and I sat down and wrote out our goals
and objectives for starting DeTye Vet Supply.
So many wonderful things have been brought
about in the last 15 years. Friendships have
been forged, medicines have changed, obstacles
have arisen, markets have been up and down, and
our family has grown(poor Tyler, he now has to buy
not 2 but 3 wedding dresses in the distant future).

Congratulations, Lauren Wang , of Baker MT. Laurenis the 2015 recipient of the DeTye
scholarship. Lauren is the daughter of Dean and Karen Wang of Baker, MT. She if a very active
and hardworking young lady who will do great things in the years to come. She is currently
pursuing an Animal Science degree at California Polytechnic Unviersity in San Luis Obispo, CA

DEAL RANCH—CHERRY CREEK, SD
This spring’s Rancher Profile features Sean and
Kellie Deal and the Deal Ranch of Cherry Creek, SD. A
ranching family that has been a DeTye customer since
day one. Sean even had a hand in naming us
over 15 years ago.
If you take one step on the Deal Ranch
it won’t take long for you to realize where
Sean and Kellie rest their laurels. There may
not be a sign hanging anywhere saying so,
but they go by the mantra “We have family
that are friends, and we have friends that are
family”. Anyone who has spent any time
there has undoubtedly experienced this. Sean grew up a cowboy and has never
faltered on the fact that he was always going
to be a rancher. Graduating high school in 1978, 3 days
later he dove into the cattle business. With the help of
Bill Fischer at American State Bank he bought 50 head
of cows on a hand shake loan. There soon after Sean
ended up at his Great Uncle, Dave Annis’s ranch on
the Cheyenne River south of Dupree, SD. With
a handful of cows that he brought with him, he
started to work down there, and soon after had
the chance to take over the ranch. By 1986 it was
officially the Deal Ranch. Growing up in that part of the country it is a
fore gone conclusion that a young man is going
to be a bronc rider. Sean was no exception, as
talented of a hand as they make. Sean rode with
the best of them. But by the time he was 25 he
had fallen in love with the Cheyenne and its river
breaks. He realized the opportunity he had and
walked away from bronc riding and worked on building

on July 1, 1983 (Kellie’s
birthday). Together they built a
ranch and a family. With four kids
Kella, Kaden, Kesse, and Kash
they grew up a horseback. And
now with 2 grandkids they will
be, with no doubt, raised the same
way. Everyone who calls that
part of South Dakota home faces
unique challenges. Whether
it’s the ranch being 50 plus
miles from the closest grocery
store on marginal roads, or the
constant changing river making
it unpredictable to water his
cattle. The tough winters in South
Dakota are always an issue. But
those Cheyenne River breaks
made the ranch in the winter, “It’s
like having a huge barn”. Being
not a big “hay man” Sean has
been able to winter those cattle on
ear corn and cake with the grass
in those breaks. Even during the
96–97 blizzard, he didn’t have to
hay much. He has a set of sturdy
black cows that wean a calf
second to none. The Deal’s have
been stewards of the land before
stewardship was fashionable.
Going by one simple ideal he
gained from Armstong county
rancher, Honey Webb, “If you
leave grass, you will always have
grass!” This has served him well through drought and
blizzard. Sean is also very quick to give credit for any
success he has to the bankers that understood ranching in that part of the world. Without Bill Fischer, and Butch
Webb, at Western Dakota Bank he would not be where
he is today.
Beyond the cattle that are the bread and butter of the
ranch, Sean and the family have put together a cavy of
top notch bucking horses. These horse’s have shown up
all over the country at some of the top prorodeo’s and
elite bronc ridings. In fact a stud of theirs, Holy Diver, bucked out in two performances of the 2015 NFR in Las
Vegas. That being said the bright lights and notoriety

isn’t Sean’s motivation to have these horses. The biggest
enduring reason that the Deal Ranch has always had some
top bucking horses is to have something for the scores of
aspiring bronc riders to come get on down at the ranch.
The tie that binds the ranch together is the fact that
Sean and Kellie feel the kids are fundamental to it all. Whether it’s the countless 106 mile round trips to high
school basketball games for his own kids, or slowing
things down in the branding pen for a first time roper. Sean and family have started a legacy that goes beyond
grass or cattle along that river. It reaches to any young
cowboy or cowgirl that has a rope or bronc saddle that
has dreams of being a good hand.

This multi-component herd management system not only enables you to identify and track livestock, but also it automatically
updates your files chute-side with vaccinations, weights, genetics, birth dates, other production history, and much more.
Readers are compatible with many other herd management software programs available on the market today.
When the TechStar II RFID tag is in close proximity to the reader, energy from the reader activates the integrated circuit
inside the tag. No onboard tag power is required. Using radio waves, the tag is energized by the reader and instantly sends
a unique pre-coded identifier back to the reader, which then sends the data to a computer or handheld PDA or Pocket PC.
Neither direct contact nor line of sight is required for accurate RFID reading. Tags can be read quickly and accurately in

LONGRANGE, when administered at the recommended dose volume of 1 mL per 110 lb (50 kg)

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin) should be given only by subcutaneous injection in front of the
shoulder at the recommended dosage level of 1 mg eprinomectin per kg body weight (1 mL
per 110 lb body weight).
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS
Withdrawal Periods and Residue Warnings
Animals intended for human consumption must not be slaughtered within 48 days
of the last treatment.
This drug product is not approved for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or
older, including dry dairy cows. Use in these cattle may cause drug residues in milk
and/or in calves born to these cows.
A withdrawal period has not been established for pre-ruminating calves. Do not use
in calves to be processed for veal.
Animal Safety Warnings and Precautions
The product is likely to cause tissue damage at the site of injection, including possible
granulomas and necrosis. These reactions have disappeared without treatment. Local tissue
reaction may result in trim loss of edible tissue at slaughter.
Observe cattle for injection site reactions. If injection site reactions are suspected, consult your
veterinarian. This product is not for intravenous or intramuscular use. Protect product from
light. LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin) has been developed specifically for use in cattle only. This
product should not be used in other animal species.
When to Treat Cattle with Grubs
LONGRANGE effectively controls all stages of cattle grubs. However, proper timing of treatment
is important. For the most effective results, cattle should be treated as soon as possible after
the end of the heel fly (warble fly) season.
Environmental Hazards
Not for use in cattle managed in feedlots or under intensive rotational grazing because the
environmental impact has not been evaluated for these scenarios.
Other Warnings: Underdosing and/or subtherapeutic concentrations of extended-release
anthelmintic products may encourage the development of parasite resistance. It is
recommended that parasite resistance be monitored following the use of any anthelmintic
with the use of a fecal egg count reduction test program.
TARGET ANIMAL SAFETY
Clinical studies have demonstrated the wide margin of safety of LONGRANGE® (eprinomectin).
Overdosing at 3 to 5 times the recommended dose resulted in a statistically significant
reduction in average weight gain when compared to the group tested at label dose.
Treatment-related lesions observed in most cattle administered the product included
swelling, hyperemia, or necrosis in the subcutaneous tissue of the skin. The administration
of LONGRANGE at 3 times the recommended therapeutic dose had no adverse reproductive
effects on beef cows at all stages of breeding or pregnancy or on their calves.
Not for use in bulls, as reproductive safety testing has not been conducted in males intended
for breeding or actively breeding. Not for use in calves less than 3 months of age because
safety testing has not been conducted in calves less than 3 months of age.

The EAZI-Breed CIDR Cattle Insert provides an
exogenous source of progesterone during the 7-day
administration period to facilitate synchronization of

DR. CHANDY OLSON working with DeTye Vet Supply
DeTye Vet Supply has been working closely with Dr. Chandy Olson,
of St. Onge, SD since early in each others careers. We rely on her
expertise on a daily basis to help our customers deal with their
everyday questions and issues.
Chandy and her husband, Tim, are dedicated to providing top
notch service to all their cattle customers. Chandy, a self employed
veterinarian, through her business, CATL Resources, is a hard
working cattle vet traveling South Dakota and surrounding states
providing beef cattle veterinary and reproductive services. Tim is a
20 year veteran of Select Sires as a beef specialist providing semen
and AI services to some of the most reputable ranches in the area.
Together the duo are passionate about helping producers reap the
rewards of an upscale reproductive and management strategy.
After working with many different livestock facilities, Tim and Chandy
began selling livestock equipment that they use everyday, including

when uSing vaccines
Avoid contaminating vaccine: never
use a dirty needle when refilling your
vaccine gun. When your gun is empty,
this is a great time to change your needle. This will eliminate contamination of
unused vaccine. Changing your needle
often will also help eliminate abcess
problems.
Avoid storing or sitting vaccine in light:
This especially applies to live vaccine.
Something that I see all the time, is a
full vaccine gun sitting on the tailgate at
branding time—I cringe. This is a waste
of time and money. Live vaccines can
die when exposed to light even for a
small period of time.
Solution: Take an old cardboard box,
cut holes in each side to fit the size
of your gun. When the gun isn’t being used for vaccinating, place it in the
hole of the box. This will virtually eliminate all light, thus keeping your vaccine
cooler and more effective.
Use a clean needle when mixing vaccine: This is another mistake that generally occurs when time is of the essence. Use clean transfer needles each
time you mix a new vaccine. Transfer
needls are inexpensive.
Leftover vaccine should be discarded:
Especially live vaccine, once it has
been mixed, you only have a short
amount of time to use the product. Be
sure to discard the remaining amount
of the mixed vaccine.
Solution: Order plenty of 10 dose bottles so you’re not discarding the larger
remains of a 50 dose bottle.
