EAGLE SOARS AGAIN
Comparisons to the greats after stunning victory
THEY ARE running out of
superlatives for Bold Eagle, who demolished a
field of the best 4YOs in
Europe in the Grand Prix
de l’UET, the European
Derby, creating a track
record at a rain-affected
Holland’s Wolvega raceway.
As austere a publication
as the Paris-Turf is comparing the son of Ready Cash, a
champion himself, with the
likes of Varenne and Ourasi,
the best horses not only of
their generations, but from
the breeding superpowers of
Italy and France.
France, in truth, does not
always send its very best
abroad to compete, with
more than enough prestige,
status and prizemoney on
offer in its much-envied
domestic system and no
French horse had won the
€385,000 jewel in crown of
the European Trotting Union
since 2008.
But there is sense of an
enduring legacy being built
for Sebastien Guarato’s powerfully built entire who was

making his first race outside
the republic.

front from the No 4 position
on the gate, handing up to his
stablemate Billie de Montfort
(Jasmine de Flore), before

SWEDEN
Trotters needed foglights to
negotiate the tracks in Sweden on the weekend, with the
major meeting at the central
Swedish city of Orebro featuring the Svampen Orebro, one
of Sweden’s top races for
2YOs. Ready Cash colt Dixi
Sisu led from the front and
cruised to victory by four
lengths from MT Le Bron
(Quite Easy) and Global
Touchdown
(Chocolatier).
Bjorn Goop was back from
driving at Vincennes on Friday
night to train and drive Thai
Broadway (Broadway Hall) to
win the Express Gaxes lopp
in the Gold Division. Goop
led from the gate, controlled
the race and was untroubled
to win ahead of Volstead
(Cantab Hall) and the trailing
O’Grady (SJ’s Photo). It was
also a foggy night at Bollnas,
where, the Anders Kilstroms
Minne for 3 and 4YOs went
to the hot favourite Echaffour
US from Svante Bath’s barn.
Driven by Erik Adielsson the
Donato Hanover colt led all
the way to beat Ulf Eriksson’s
Spring Chicken and Taffy (Jocose). The winner covered
the 2140m trip in a leisurely
1’15”7 (2.01.4).
DENMARK
Peter Jensen’s Verity Dust
won the Grand Circle 4YO
Mares Championship at
Odense on the weekend.
Driver Jepp Juel made a late
move in the home straight
on the Credit Winner mare to
deny Knud Monster’s Wendy
PP (Great Challenger) who
had been the pacesetter.
Unique Sisa (Ens Snapshot)
was third ahead of Ultimate
Wine (Chocolatier). The
winner’s time was 1’14”7
(2.00.1) for the 2140m journey. The Danish 5YO mares
championship was also decided on the afternoon, going
to Alborg amateur trainer’s
Temptation SH (Timberland).
Her winning time was 1’13”6
(1.58.2) for the 2140m.
NORWAY
Ernst Karlsen’s Anazai, a
daughter of Banker Hall, won
the Norwegian Oaks at Momarken on Saturday night.
Kristian Malmin managed to
get the filly past HM You Can
Choose (Staro Showbiz) to
claim the 300,000 NOK first
prize. NY Zesty (Zola Boko)
was third. The winner’s time
was 1’15”4 (2.01.2) for the
2140m trip.
ly whipped him round and to
the front again.
The pair’s biggest rival,
Sweden’s Cash Gamble, another son of Ready Cash,
ended up facing the breeze,
and this was to prove the
closest Per Lennartsson’s
entire, or the rest of the European contingnent got to troubling the French duo.
Bold Eagle forged on at
pace, with his stablemate
in tow away and there was
nothing the pack could do
but chase.
Into the final straight Bold
Eagle effortlessly pulled
away to win by five lengths
from Billie de Montfort with
several lengths back to Daniel Reden’s Sorbet. Flex Lane
was third from a spent Cash

death seat.
Bold Eagle’s
time was a new course record of 1’12”0 (1.56.3) for
the 2100 and his connections pocketed 175,000 euro
for his 17th victory in the
20th start. His earnings have
now topped €800,000.

TOP Swedish driver Bjorn
Goop drove his countryman
Tomas Malquist’s Love You
mare Donna di Quattro to
victory in the Prix Klymene at
Vincennes, the Group III feature event on Friday night’s
card at the Temple du Trot.
The Swedish-bred daughter of Love You was quickly to
the lead from the gate on the
flat inside track, and was untroubled to control the race
from there, setting a good
tempo and then pulling away
from the field in the home
stretch to win by half a dozen
lengths in a time of 1’12”6
for the 2100m.
Gabriele Gelormini steered
fellow
Swedish
raider
Ninepoints Lucy (Spotlite Lobell) as she stayed on from
the rear of the pack to claim
second for Jorgen Westholm
with Joel Hallais’ French 5YO
Alpine du Rib (Opium) third.
Last year’s winner of the
Prix Klymen, Moving On, was
one of a trio of Swedish-bred
horses at Caen, for the marathon Group III Prix de la Ville
de Caen on Saturday.
The race is over 4400m on
