did Kyle Busch, who is
almost unanimously considered one of the sport’s
great talents.

I’m not sur e why I star ted reading, but the more
I read the mor e interested I became. Maybe it was
the smile that fi rst attracted me to cr ocodiles. How
can you ignore such a smile? Not ver y fetching, but
rather something mor e evil. Behind those teeth is
a bite that exer ts 5000 lbs per squar e inch of for ce.
No other creature even comes close to that, and it’s
more than enough to get my attention. I read on... an
effective predator that ambushes its prey. Determining their age is unr eliable at best, especially for the
females. Go ahead and ask one and you’ll see what
I mean.
Crocodiles have 4 legs with webbed feet, but they
don’t use them to swim. They basically swim with
their tail. The feet and legs ar e used in shallow water and for setting land speed records. No, honestly
someone measured how fast they can run. Instead of
the slower “High W alk,” fast cr ocodiles do a “Belly
Run.” It made me wish I had know about this years
ago in gym class. Anyway, the fastest croc got up to a
speed of 11 miles per hour. Even a fit human is going
to have tr ouble doing a 12mph “Belly Run” to fl ee
from that kind of speed.
Then I read something curious. Apparently a crocodile can’t stick its tongue out at you, no matter how
much they may desire to show displeasure. Now, you
can stick your tongue out at a cr ocodile as often as
you wish but they can’t r espond in kind. Why someone would want to give a raspber ry to such a beast?
Perhaps it’s on someone’s Bucket List or ther e may
be a pressing need to confront Crocodyliphobia. But
if this gestur e should upset the cr ocodile, and the
reptile should happen to chase the of fender down,
I came acr oss a sur e-fire method to escape its jaws.
If you dig your fi ngers into the cr ocodile’s eyeballs
it will release you in an instant. That’s kind of handy
to know. That kind of knowledge can provide a measure of confi dence if one wer e to fi nd oneself in a
fracas with a cr ocodile. Hey, you never know when
something fr eakish could happen in the swamp, at
the zoo, or in a neighbor’s pool her e in the Nor theast.
What I wasn’t able to discover is if I’ll be able
to drag myself away fr om that blind cr ocodile, with
whatever working parts I may have left, after the encounter. ©2012 WBB

Journaling and your titles. You could use
“T’was the Night Before Christmas” as a title
on a page with a pictur e of your kids sleeping. Or “Welcome Christmas while we stand,

• Create plush embellishments with
flocking. Maybe you have a Santa cutout,
you could add white flocking to his beard and
white par ts of his suit. Maybe you ar e using

many dif ferent things to add fl ocking to that
can add texture to your pages.
• Put a spin on the traditional colors.Try
using pastels or brights to give your pages a
different look. You could even just use all out
brights of all the colors. Just like the decorations you see in the store.
• Use a hand-stitched bor der. This can
add texture to your page as well. And as you
are stitching you can add buttons, too!

The Peace Initiative

He came and preached peace to you who were afar
off and to those who were near. Ephesians 2:17
It was the night befor e Christmas in 1870. Fr ench
and German armies faced each other on the fi eld of
battle in the Franco-Pr ussian War. A Fr ench soldier
started walking towar d the Ger man lines. His comrades watched breathlessly, expecting to hear at any
instant the crack of a rifle that would end his life. As
he near ed the enemy lines, he stopped and began
singing, “Noel, noel! Noel, noel! Bor n is the King of
Israel!” No shot rang out.
Slowly the Frenchman returned to his ranks. Ther e
was silence! Then from the German side came a lone
soldier to that same spot and sang the Ger man version of the same song. After each stanza both armies
united in the chor us. For a few minutes Christ
brought peace to that battlefield.
God is a peacemaker who always takes the first step.
Jesus came as a baby , and when He gr ew to manhood He pr eached peace to a war ring world. Then,
in the greatest peace initiative this world has ever
seen, Christ made peace between God and man by
dying for our sins (Col. 1:20).
Peacemaking ef forts may be r ejected, but the alternative is continued hostility. God didn’t settle for
that, nor should we. Let’s take the fi rst step in healing a br oken relationship, even at the risk of being
“shot down.”

3 C. shredded carrots
2/3 C. chopped walnuts
FROSTING:
1 Pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
1/2 C. butter or margarine, softened
1 tsp. vanilla extract
4 C. confectioners’ sugar
2/3 C. chopped walnuts
In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, oil, and sugar until
smooth. Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt; add to egg mixture and beat
well. Stir in carrots and walnuts. Pour into a greased

ADVICE
A number of years ago we sold a fellow a top
state-of-the-art 8mm movie camera. It was a Yashica with everything you could think of in features.
He took it home, read the book and made a movie with every feature the camera had. There was
fade in, fade out, time lapse, single shot, double
exposure and on and on. He had done it all.
I mentioned before how every other person that
comes in asks where they can take lessons or who
offers hands-on instruction on the camera they
have. The first thing I’ll say is “Read the book.” If
you have one of the big name cameras like Nikon,
Canon, Sony or Pentax, there is probably a DVD
made just for your camera. Call me to check and
see if there is a DVD for your particular camera.
Like the guy with the Yashica camera, why have a
camera with lots of features if you don’t use them?
At least learn what the camera does.
The next piece of advice is to get a small note
book. As you experiment, write down what you did
and why. All the big camera companies have either a web site or a phone number you can call if
you need help or have problems.
Whether it is 35mm or digital, many of the old
photo rules still apply. The rule of thirds, lead in
lines, framing, props, etc. are all still good rules no
matter what type of camera you have.
I have to mention joining a camera club. Here
you will get input as to what others think of your
work. That will certainly lead to making you a better photographer.
The Sigma 18 to 250 lens has been a real success. If you want an all-in-one lens, consider this
one. In the 70 years I have been selling cameras, I don’t think I ever saw such a wide choice of
equipment as there is now at good, good prices.
My By Choice or By Appointment hours seems
to be working out. As it stands, I am still here most
of my regular hours.
If you have something to sell, now seems to be
the time. While Kodak is not making film, Fuji still
is, but that could change. And with no film, it will
be a little hard to sell film cameras.
We hear a lot of people mention collectors. Yes,
there are collectors, but they are fussy and want
what they buy to be like new, not just old.
