Chevrolet builds 1,500,000th Corvette
THE HAMILTON SPECTATOR
(Jun 18, 2009)
A
t the June meeting of the Greater Atlanta Automotive Media Association, Karen Rafferty,
Chevrolet Product Marketing Director, announced
the recent production of the 1,500,000th Corvette at
GM Bowling Green Assembly Plant.
"The 1.5 millionth Corvette is a great example
of how Chevy is America's Brand," Rafferty said.
"For nearly 60 years we have built America's Sports
Car and this milestone is a solid proof point."
The 1.5 millionth Corvette, built on May 28, is
a white convertible 3LT with red interior and black
top (similar to the first, 500,000th and 1 millionth
Corvettes built in 1953, 1977 and 1992 respectively).
The first Corvette rolled off the assembly line
on June 30, 1953.
Rafferty also announced the all-new 2010 Corvette Grand Sport.
"The Corvette Grand Sport achieves a 0 - 60 time in
less than four seconds, pulls 1.0g on the skid pad and
still boasts an impressive 9.0L/100km (hwy)(31
mpg)," Rafferty said. "These numbers are unmatched
by any of Corvette's competitors."

From the President Pres
N
ow that June is behind us, we have experienced considerable cool and wet weather, certainly not quite seasonal. However, in spite of this situation, the club has been active.
The annual Road Rally was another success – thank you Larry. We met at Reif Estate Winery and then had to
search through N-O-T-L answering specific touristy type questions. Quite challenging! From there, the route took
us through sections of Niagara Falls winding our way to the Copeland’s where it was time to socialize, have some
beverages and enjoy a very tasty meal. Afterwards, the participants received their dash plaques and the winners received their recognition, along with some prizes. A great big thank you to Chris and Roger Copeland for hosting
this event and to Larry Schmor for once again laying out the route and arranging all the details.
The next social event was the digital scavenger hunt. The members met at the Mytroen’s where we were
given sheets outlining the “targets” for the scavenger hunt. Instead of collecting items, we had to collect digital images such as oldest car seen, persons swimming in the lake, building with most satellite dishes, etc. This was a
novel approach to a scavenger hunt which presented a challenge, especially having a meal with the largest family at
MacDonald’s. After the 2 hour time limit, we all returned to the Mytroen’s to judge the results and determine the
winner. Afterwards, we all enjoyed a great BBQ along with the usual social activities, including a ride in the paddle
boat. Our thanks to Lynn and John for organizing the event as well as hosting it.
As you can see, we have a group of members who are extremely active in arranging and hosting our social
events and those of us who participate are extremely thankful of their efforts. However, in my mind, it is somewhat
discouraging that participation of our members is so low; it is always the same small group that are active in these
events. Why?
With the arrival of July, all our emphasis is concentrated on the big event, our annual car show. It is important
that all sponsorships are handed in to Gloria ASAP. If the sponsorship funds are not received on time, the sponsors’
names cannot be included in the printed listing recognizing their support. Also, the goodie bag items must be delivered to Wendy and Jake Bas by July 20 at the latest and items to be used for draw prizes and raffle items should be
forwarded to Marilyn as well. On the day of the show, all members should wear their yellow NCC T-shirts and, if
you have them, bring your “walkie-talkies” to aid in communicating on the day of the show. We will be doing the
preliminary set up of the site on Saturday, July 25 at 10:00 AM and we would ask all members to be at the winery
by 7:00 AM on the day of the show. Remember, the day is there to make show successful and raise funds for the
children’s centre, NOT to relax and socialize. If you have nothing to do and are requested to give a hand, please do
so. “Many hands make light work”.
The weekend of July 17 – 19 we will be visited by 11 Corvettes from the North Shore Corvettes of Massachusetts. We will try to spend some time with these folks to extend our hospitality to them and provide some guidance
to the highlights of the area – including the winery. If you are interested in meeting with these folks, please let me
know. Also, there is a supper planned for the Friday, July 24 at JJ Kapps with the Sudbury Corvette Club and perhaps the members of the Ottawa club. If you would like to join us for supper, let Marilyn know. Then, on the evening of Saturday, July 25, we will be joining the SSR Club along with members of the other visiting clubs at Betty’s
Restaurant in Chippawa. Again, if you would like to join the group, let Marilyn know so that proper arrangements
can be made. We are expecting Corvettes from New Hampshire, Ottawa, Sudbury, Wasaga Beach so it would be
nice to socialize and swap lies with the folks from distant places. Let’s be hospitable and extend our contacts outside of the immediate region.
Let’s make the show another success and work together on behalf of the Niagara Peninsula Children’s Centre.
Happy Corvetting and remember to Save the Wave!
George

Date: Tuesday, July 7, 2009
Attendance:
39
Meeting Started: 8:04 P.M.
George Dalbergs opened the meeting with the sad news that our long time member Ray Maude had passed
away. George spoke of a note sent by Carol Maude recalling how much Ray had enjoyed his many years of
association with the club. Our sincerest condolences to the Maude Family.
George reported that once again Joseph Toth was unable to attend our meeting regarding our club jackets.
President's Report: George Dalbergs
Old Business:
The Sudbury Club will be renting the Dunnville Autodrome on Friday, July 24 from noon until 4:00 PM for a track
session. Our members are welcome to join them. Contact George for details.
Reminder that the St. Catharines Downtown Association will be holding their downtown car show on Saturday, July 11. We will require volunteers to assist in parking cars for this show. We have 18 members signed up.
If anyone else would like to volunteer, please let George know. Members will meet at the Tim Horton’s on the
corner of Louth St. and St. Paul St (TRW PLANT) at 7:00 AM on Saturday. The Downtown Association will be
giving out goodie bags and has offered to include our show flyers which will save us having to pass them out
that day.
Road Rally was held on June 6. It started at Reif Estate Winery and passed through NOTL and NF ending at the
Copeland’s estate for supper. Everyone had a great time. Thanks to Larry Schmor for organizing and laying
out the rally – a big job. And thanks again to Chris and Roger Copeland for hosting the meal and the hospitality.
On June 27, the club had our first digital scavenger hunt. It started at Lynn and John Mytroens’ estate and provided a challenge for the participants to collect digital photos of the items on the list. Very challenging and
surely different. Afterwards, we were treated to a BBQ along with paddle boat rides. Great big thanks to Lynn
and John.
New Business:
Marilyn and George Dalbergs attended the Sudbury Corvette Club’s show in June. The show was somewhat
smaller than last year but very well run and enjoyable.. The club members are extremely hospitable and we all
had a great time.
George has received a note from the Lincoln County Agricultural Society regarding the Fall Fair. The cruise night
will be held on Friday, September 11, 2009 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. We will organize the cruise night and
present trophies to the 3 top choices at 8:00 PM – balloting will close by 7:30 at the latest.
George has received quotations for new banners from 4 suppliers in St. Catharines ranging from $430 to $508.
They would be 46” x 60” vinyl, hemmed and grommeted. The $508 quote includes 2 additional small banners –
18” x 25”. George asked for approval from the membership to place an order for these banners not to exceed
$500.00
Moved – Dave Drake
Seconded – a unanimous show of hands by the membership to approve the purchase.
The club has received notice of the Autumn Sports Classic car show at Como Lake Park in Lancaster NY. This
show is hosted by the Buffalo Octagon Association.
The Lakeshore Street Rod Association of Dunkirk NY are holding its annual Harbor Cruise on
Sunday, July
12 from noon to 5:00 at Point Gratiot Park. Contact George for details.
George reported that the Vintage Racing Association on Mosport is having a 50th anniversary celebration from
June 17-20th at Mosport in 2010.

GM recalls 1 vehicle due to faulty accelerator
With all the financial strife General Motors finds itself in,
the last thing it needs are product recalls bringing into
doubt the quality of its vehicles. Unfortunately for GM, a
product recall is just what the company was forced to issue,

and with 1 vehicle across the country affected people are
going to take notice.
The recall affects the 2009 versions of the Corvette C6 in
blue only.
The issue with the accelerator lies in an inability to effectively control engine RPM’s. This issue manifests itself
when drivers move the accelerator for standard cars and
the engine idle RPM never returns to the normal range before hard shifting occurs. This could cause the car to dam-

age the clutch plate. GM did not go into specifics as to what
other issues could present themselves.
While currently only 1 corvette is being recalled, most are
still sitting in dealer lots. Only 3 vehicles that could potentially be affected by the faulty accelerator have been sold to
consumers. None of those vehicles have reported any problems relating to the recall as of yet.
This problem is hard for GM dealers to diagnose as no
trouble codes are set in the computer.
GM stated the solution is to reprogram the computer and
pull the “Mid
America rubber mats” away from the
accelerator pedal.
