In keeping with this example, it is significant that the Lord’s Prayer, or Our Father, is the common prayer of all Christians. The parable and teaching that follow the Lord’s Prayer make clear the particular purpose of prayer that Jesus highlights: prayer as petition. In this instance, Jesus assures us that if we pray for what we need with conviction and confidence, then God cannot fail to respond to our prayer. Jesus encourages us to be demanding and persistent in our prayer. However, this parable demonstrates the persistent nature of prayer and NOT the demands for selfish prayer. We should focus first on our relationship with the Father and plea on behalf of the neighbors’ spiritual and material needs. Christ is not waking his neighbor in the middle of the night to ask for bread for Himself; He asks for bread to give to His guest. He asks for help to fulfill His duty and responsibility. This gives us something of an idea about how we might focus our prayer. The final element of the Gospel provides us with a description of God’s love and care: if human parents would not do harm instead of good to their children, God is less likely to act like this towards us. It’s an odd way of saying that God’s love is greater than anything within our experience or imagination. Please remember the sick of our parish in your Prayers. BREAKFAST SALE On the Sundays of July 24 After all the Masses in the rectory parking lot. AÑO DE MISERICORDIA TRIP TO HERSHEY PARK, PA.
