President’s Message
Welcome to the first edition of Flames
Forum. While we have had Newsletters in past years, this is a fresh approach to communicating with our
members.
Happy 20th Anniversary, CGHA!
The Clarington Girl’s Hockey Association (CGHA) celebrates their
20th anniversary!
Established in 1990 the league was comprised of 27 girls playing in
Manvers and Millbrook, Ontario. Today we represent over 550
players across 25 House League and 14 Competitive teams.
This year we introduced a “Learn to Play” giving young females in
our community the opportunity to give hockey a try! This has been
met with resounding success and puts more young players on the
ice. One of our mandates is to promote the ideals of good sportsmanship and fair play throughout our organization, in our players and our spectators. We
hope to foster life skills through a well regulated amateur hockey program. Valuable
skills like teamwork, commitment, respect
and self-confidence are developed. All of this
while they learn to play and enjoy the greatest game there is...hockey.
Our year started early, when we were
the only Minor Hockey organization represented in the celebration of
the Stanley Cup. It was brought to our
municipality in August by Bryan Bickell,
a member of the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Black Hawks.
This year saw the introduction of a
Learn to Play program, free to those
wishing to learn the game and hopefully join our organization as a full-time
member. Also we re-introduced the
Fundamentals Program for younger
players to ready them for our House
League and Competitive programs.
We are currently rewriting our Constitution and By-Laws, which were in
need of a thorough review to reflect
changes over the last 20 years. I am
also pleased to announce the introduction of the CGHA Scholarship Program.
For more information on this, please
visit our website.
Thanks to the many volunteers who
act as coaches, managers, trainers and
executive members, the CGHA has
developed into one of the top organizations in Ontario. If you are interested in becoming more involved, please
get in touch with an Executive member. Email: cghapresident@hotmail.com

"Sponsorship plays an important role in making up the difference between the registration fees you pay and the total player expense. Please support CGHA team sponsors to
show your appreciation and continue to keep the players registration fees down."

Clarington Girls Score BIG in the 2010 Twister's Tournament!
CONGRATULATIONS to our CGHA teams for their efforts and strong finishes in the 2010
Twisters tournament in North Halton.
Moda Salon (Bantam) and Jake's (Intermediate) put forth a solid effort in their team play
and strong finishes.
Scotia Bank (PeeWee) led in all three round robin games with two of those efforts ending
in shut-outs. The decision-making semi-final game ended in a nail-biting shoot-out; despite the most valiant of efforts, the PeeWee team came up short in the victory, but long
in their determination. Congratulations to all the great women on this team!
The BEST TEAM.ca PeeWees forged through their round robin games with the ferocity
they have exhibited all season; their tenacity saw them through the semi-finals. In a challenging and exciting championship game, the BEST TEAM.ca did not disappoint, bringing
home the GOLD MEDAL victory to Clarington - WAY TO GO Division Champions!
The Atom Arcade Pools team tied their first game Friday night, then came back on Saturday with a shutout win to advance to the semi-finals. Again Clarington was well represented by these young women in the Championship game, as they brought home the
GOLD MEDAL victory - WAY TO GO Division Champions!
In Memoriam
Hockey has lost one of it’s greatest; after a long battle
with cancer, Mike “Hoss” Wade died January 10th surrounded by his family and friends. Hoss always had a
smile for everyone, and was a huge part of Bowmanville
hockey for most of his life. Hoss was remembered by so
many that his funeral service
was held at Garnet B. Rickard
on January 13. There will be a
spring interment at Lakeview
Cemetery, Newtonville. Those
wishing to remember Hoss can
make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of choice. Please donate
blood in Mike’s memory.
