“Bear much fruit and…Be my Disciple!
Be my Disciple and…Bear much fruit!”
In my youth, as a pre‐teen and teenager, I enjoyed summer vacation as lazy days of no responsibilities (and usually being bored as a result), of staying up late and then getting up late. One of my memories of those summers was watching the nightly reruns of “the Twilight Zone” with my siblings and other family or friend who were visiting. This series, though known for its weird and bizzare plots that fostered an occasional nightmare – at least in my childhood, presented thought provoking scenarios that made one think. And thinking, especially for youth, is always a good thing. One of the shows I vividly remember was titled “The Invaders”, where an old woman (played by Agnes Moorehead) living alone in an apparently isolated area is beset and confronted by ‘aliens’ that have landed their ‘UFO’ on her roof and ‘invade’ her home. These ‘creatures’ are smaller than she, about the ratio of a human being to a squirrel. After about 20 minutes of suspense‐filled drama, the woman succeeds in overwhelming the alien invaders and then goes to the roof to destroy their spacecraft and any foreigners inside. As she chops away at their flying saucer with a hatchet, a human voice from inside the vehicle is heard sending a message to Central Control frantically stating “incredible race of giants here! Stay away!!” Then the camera pans to the side of the ‘UFO’ where the identification reads “U.S. Air Force Space Probe.” AT OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP, GALLOWAY! Starting Thursday, September 8, 2016, the Church Ministry Institute of Camden (CMIC) is happy to launch a series of courses on basic theology at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Galloway. The first course will be “Old Testament.” Subsequent courses, taught by a variety of Masters level instructors, will include Scripture, Morality, Ministry Skills, Catholic Social Teaching, Lay Ministry, Church History, Eucharist, and much more. These courses are excellent for adults seeking to learn about their faith as well as for catechists and parish ministers seeking certificates. There are no tests or term papers – only great information! Each course runs six Thursdays from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm and will be held in the Media Center at the Assumption Regional Catholic School. Cost per course is $60 – or $250 pre‐paid for five courses. Catechists or for those who will are willing to volunteer as a catechist the parish will contribute half of the tuition of $30.00. After completion of one level (5 courses) tuition paid by the participant will be reimbursed. For more information and to register, contact JoLynn Krempecki, Director of Lay Ministry Formation, at 856‐583‐2905 or email JoLynn.Krempecki@camdendiocese.org OR Nancy Riddell at our parish office, 609‐652‐0008, ext. 208. The twist of the story still makes me think. And with the readings from Mass this Sunday my thinking is expanded. Do we realize that WE ARE aliens? Not on some far‐off planet but right here on Earth. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS! As Catholic Christians we know that our true home is heaven, and the gift of faith offered by God helps us remember this; because “Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.” Open to the revelation of God and encouraged by faith we are called to live our life on Earth with our focus on Eternal Life in the Kingdom. Last week we were challenged by Jesus to prioritize both our values and the value we give to things, since “one’s life does not consist of possessions.” This week He tells us that we have been given much by our heavenly Father and that we are to be good stewards in following God’s will in how we use what we have, “for where your treasure is, there also will your heart be. “ As aliens in this world, we should be making preparations for the journey home by living our Discipleship fully and bearing much fruit by witnessing the Gospel values each day. “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” We don’t want to end up being aliens in heaven!

Collections
