Lawai Beach Resort - Spring 2010 Newsletter
Lika Lani Associations
Declarations and By-Laws
At the January Annual Meeting, the amendments were approved
and passed. The amendments include new and updated Hawaii
Statures. There is one change done to protect replacement of
two-thirds of the Directors. This allows the knowledge held by
the Directors to be shared with new members when elections
occur.
The candidate receiving the most votes would then serve for
three (3) years and the other would serve two (2) years. This
election year there was only one Director opening. We then
suggested to refer to the 2013 election to put this into effect.
The results of the 2013 election was Calvert de Coligny with
75 votes and Bruce Blohowiak with 70 votes. Therefore,
Calvert will serve until January 2016, and Bruce will serve
through January 2015.
Robert Hipke was re-elected in January with his term expiring
in January 2017.
Interval International
The Board of Directors approved renewing the Affiliation
Agreement for an additional six (6) years. Interval International
(II) now offers a points program called II Club Gold. Benefits
of membership include the option to utilize your exchange as a
standard week or points. With the Points, you are able to get car
rentals, hotels nights, golf, cruises, and more.
The Board of Directors has always believed in providing
optional programs for you. To better ensure you receive all
the information on this program, we will be providing your
name and contact information to Interval International. The
information will be used only for the purpose of providing the
program information and the option for you to join.
As the first quarter comes
to an end we are excited
to announce the Banyan
building roof and solar panels are now complete. The next
phase of the project moves to Lika Lani, the Rooftop center and
mini golf course. At the January Board meeting, management
requested additional panels be placed on the Resort Laundry
facility, which was approved. This will allow approximately
forty more panels to assist in balancing the load. Management
is working with the contractor on energy saving ideas such as
variable frequency drives (VFD’s) for our pool and waste water
treatment plant pumps and motors, LED lighting for our parking
lamps, improved golf cart chargers and so on. This continues to
be an exciting “green” project. Our owners and guests are always
impressed when they arrive at the resort and see that we are
decreasing our footprint on our beautiful island paradise.

The Alii renovation is on the final months to completion. We are on
schedule for the end of October. They are on the fourth floor with 9
units to go. The last two units will be our ADA accessible units, 1107
& 1108. We saved these for last to ensure these units are in full compliance with the 2010 ADA standards.
The Banyan Board of Directors
representatives approved
renovation of the units at a total
cost of $1.2 million. The project
kicks off on March 28, 2014 with
duration period of three (3) years.
The renovation includes
replacement of the Jacuzzi tubs
and shower stall in the master bath
of two bedroom units with a large
walk-in shower and additional
shelving for storage. The tubs and
tile surrounds in all other baths
will also replaced. There will be
new floor tile in the bathrooms as
well as from the entry through the
kitchen and dining area. The lanai carpet will be replaced with a
commercial, rubber backed carpet. There will be new art work and
others will be relocated within the unit. New mirrored closet doors
will be installed, new light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, bathroom
hooks and a few other items. Two model units were completed and
available for you to view on your next visit home.
Aloha from Kaua’i!
The first quarter of 2014 is nearly over…..where did the time go?
When you are busy, you just don’t see the time going by. It has been
busy so let me provide you with updates.
-2-
Several projects continue in the Coral units; removal of the popcorn
ceiling, replacement of the mirror closet doors, changing the
icemaker waterline, adding raceways for the telephone lines, etc. We
will also complete a model with new floor tile for the Boards review
in May.
At the Lika Lani, the entry stairway and landings along with the lanai
carpets were replaced with a commercial rubber-backed carpet. The
Naupaka hedge on the front was replaced with a chain link fence as
the hedge was dying out in a couple of spots. We then planted the
Star of Jazmine vines so it will wind its way through our chain links
providing a beautiful hedge (similar to the Coral front lawn).
As I mentioned in our Winter Edition, our Waste Water Treatment
Plant required major repairs. We projected a four week duration,
however the contractor(s) completed it in 2-1/2 weeks. We recently
replaced the doors and had the buildings painted.
In September, the Board approved tiling of the Coral and Banyan
pools however, the tile chosen was no longer available. A new tile
has been chosen in January and the project will kick off on April
14th with the Coral pool which is projected to be completed in eight
(8) weeks. We will then move to the Banyan pool and it will also
be completed in eight (8) weeks after starting. During this time, we
encourage you to utilize the other pools and spas on property.
The Alii pool will have the waterline tiles replaced. There are some
missing and/or cracked tiles and these are no longer available. We are
currently waiting on the delivery of the tile then will schedule with
the contractor. To continue providing pool use for our owners and
guests, we will ensure two pools will be in operations at all times.
As you may remember, the new ADA compliance require lifts to be
installed at each pool or spa. Due to their design, the Banyan and
Coral spas are exempt. We have completed installation of the four (4)
required lifts, located at the Alii pool and spa, the
Banyan pool and the Coral pool. These need to be readily
accessible during the pool operating hours and it is user operated.
Now, to ensure I have not missed anything, please review the
Association Annual and Board of Director Meetings Minutes in this
edition. We await your return home and look forward to another
successful year!
A hui hou!

Beach Clean-up

Food Drive
As you’re preparing
to check out, please
consider donating
your non-perishable
food (particularly
canned goods) to
hungry families on
Kauai. Simply bring your canned goods
to the Front Desk, and once our container
is full, we will donate it to the Hawaii
Foodbank and the Kauai Independent
Foodbank. Both Foodbanks have programs
to help working families stretch their
grocery budgets until the next paycheck.
They also fund Backpack Programs and
Keiki Café to ensure students are fed
during after-school programs and have
food to take home over the weekends. We
hope this helps to curb the cycle of hunger
on the Island of Kauai.
