For many low-quality systems, ongoing maintenance costs can approach the original purchase price of the equipment—especially in hard-to-reach locations! Lumiflex displays are designed specifically to last without the need for frequent maintenance. Can system failures be detected before they affect the screen? Depending on the manufacturer, any failure that affects a datalink feeding modules with image or video data can cause visual downtime before repairs can be completed → Inquire about a manufacturer’s typical number of maintenance calls per year per display. Because the Lumiflex system will keep working despite link failures, problems can be corrected before visible downtime. What causes displays to fail? → Ask if data link failures can be repaired before any downtime is observed. Most LED displays are made using hundreds of unsealed modular sections linked together with unsealed ribbon cables and DC power lines. Corrosion in outdoor environments frequently causes these components to stop working. Lumiflex displays use fully rubberized modules, sealed Ethernet datalinks and intrinsically corrosion-resistant AC power delivery to each module for vastly improved lifetime in the harshest environments. → Ask whether display modules are rubberized. → Ask if sealed data connectors are used to deliver data to each module (not ribbon cables!) → Ask whether each module is powered with reliable AC current What happens to the display if one module or dataline breaks? In most display systems, when one module or dataline fails, the entire display, or a large section of the display, stops working. Lumiflex displays employ a self-healing network of modules that intelligently redirect data over multiple pathways and can survive breakages without affecting the display. → Ask what happens to the display if a module or datalink fails. Are all LEDs created equal? LEDs produced by reputable suppliers including CREE, Nichia, Philips and Avago last much longer, look better, and provide higher efficiency than ‘low-cost’ knock off brands that utilize inferior materials and quality control. → Ask for the exact brands of LEDs used What is the display’s maximum brightness, measured at full brightness? Maximum brightness of well over 5000 NITS (candelas per m2) is desired for daylight viewing. Additional brightness capability is required to compensate for LEDs naturally dimming over time. → Inquire about a display’s maximum achievable brightness . What is the power requirement? This is a major factor in determining satisfaction. Manufacturers offer various power requirements for each pixel pitch of display. Consider the utility costs, and the costs of installing primary power feeds. → Ask about a display’s power requirements Lumiflex I Luminautics Inc FOR MORE INFORMATION: www.luminautics.com Contact us: Luminautics Inc. 80 Spadina Ave, Suite 203 Toronto, Ontario, M5V2J4 E: info@luminautics.com W: www.luminautics.com +1 (416) 903 5836 © 2011 Luminautics Corporation All Rights Reserved.
