RIBBON LEAF
Fold the ribbon in half lengthwise.
Cut a 6 inch length of 5/8” wired ribbon
and remove the wire from ONE side of
the ribbon. This can also be worked
with non-wired ribbon.
From the folded end of the ribbon, turn
the NO WIRE corner down at a right
angle. With a knot in a doubled thread
of matching color, start approximately
1/8” up from the point and baste to the
top of the diagonal edge. Take two
tacking stitches at the top of the diagonal to prevent this diagonal basting
line from gathering into the point.
From the tacking stitches at the corner,
continue to baste across the “no wire”
edges through both thicknesses of the
ribbon. Fold the other end down and
baste to the bottom without tacking at
the corner this time.

RIBBON LEAF
continued
Pull the basting thread to gather the ribbon
along the basting line up to the tacking
stitches.
Open the two sides of the ribbon. The end
with the tail of thread should turn under
toward the backside of the leaf, while the
end with the knot should be fairly flat and
pointed. Work a few tacking stitches into
the backside of the seam. At the end of the
gathered seam, take a tacking stitch
through the fold of the ribbon to pull it toward the center and keep it away from the
edges. Trim the tail of the knot, if needed,
to keep it hidden under the leaf.
Flip the leaf over and tack it to your canvas working
tiny pinhead stitches into the gathered seam of the leaf.
You may also work a few tacking stitches along the edge
of the ruffle to hold the leaf in place and prevent the
sides from lifting off the canvas exposing the backside.
This technique can be used on ribbon with or without
wired edges. If you select silk ribbon, you can work very
small delicate leaves as well as large leaves. Satin and
velveteen ribbons are too heavy to work small leaves,
but make gorgeous medium or large leaves. Cut longer
lengths for wider ribbons.

2015 Mysteries of Needlepoint
BOOK CLUB
January…... the adventure begins!
Call or E-mail (see bottom of this page)
to sign up today.
The Mysteries of Needlepoint Book Club is
a 6-part book presented by the chapter
written by Amy Bunger. The chapters are
filled with loads of fun stitches but also include lessons on the elements of needlepoint, pathway to help your stitches look
their best, tips for selecting the right stitch
for each area on your painted canvas and
much more. Many of you have already preordered these bi-monthly installments of
THE BOOK CLUB.
Before your Book Club chapters arrive, you may wish to purchase
supplies at your local office supply store. You will need a binder
with a 2” ring, either “D” or “O” shape. Purchase a binder with clear
plastic sleeve on the front and spine to hold the color inserts which
will arrive with your first chapter.
Optional sheet lifters will help
prevent wear and tear on pages.
There are many choices of tabbed dividers on the market. Some you can write
your chapter information on and some
have paper inserts. There will be six
chapters in 2015 but you may want extra dividers for notes or “lab work.”
These supplies were all purchased at
Office Depot.

During one of Sanda Smith’s visits to our
shop, she spotted JP Needlepoint Design
of Benjamin Franklin Owl. I particularly
love the wallpaper and the Poor Richard’s
Almanac which are “Sanda” additions.
Sanda Smith designed and stitched
“Louis”…a special tribute for sure.
Nicolle Robidart shared this
photograph of a great monogram pillow gift she stitched.
Wish that I could get onto her
gift list.
Nancy Lusk stitched this
phenomenal canvas by Once
in a Blue Moon using a stitch
guide written by Robin King.
What a great combination of
designer, guide writer and
stitcher.
Nancy Berner shared this photo
of her beautiful rendition of
Amanda Lawford’s Russian Skyline canvas worked from an Amy

This 3-D Witch’s Hat designed by Melissa Shirley and

a fun, fun, fun decoration for
the wackiest holiday of the

More great stitching by Jeanne
