Issue 1 | 15 June 2011 WESTMINSTER OLD SCHOLARS’SOCCER CLUB The Fort-Knightly Introduction Recent Results Welcome to the inaugural Fort-Knightly, the official newsletter of the Westminster Old Scholars’ Soccer Club. Coaches Corner A good measure of how healthy any club is would be how many of its members attend training. This year we have had excellent attendance (often over 20 people) and this has remained steady despite recent cold and wet conditions. Westminster A 0 Mercedes A 3 By Andrew Warhurst When I look back to the start of pre-season in January, and all that has happened since, it gives me great satisfaction. I am really pleased to have a group of players who are not just keen to play, but are also keen to learn. Cup Round stepped up into the role. Ed has certainly been leading from the front having scored in every game he has played. In the reserves we were a bit slow to get started, though this was possibly due to several people joining us after pre-season and taking a few weeks to get up to speed. Over the last four games we have only lost once (to the much fancied Simba), drawn away at Mount Barker and recorded two very good wins. The away win at CBC was a great example On the field the first team have put in some of the spirit within the team. Despite CBC equalising, the team kept the pressure up very strong performances with the cup games against division 1 teams Immanuel until the very end when they scored a much deserved goal and win. Tod Cracker typifies and Mercedes two great examples of how the spirit in this team refusing to let little well they can play. In both these games our ability to play good structured football things like a dislocated shoulder stop him playing a big part for the reserves. has shone through making me for one very proud. All our games have been In summary the start of the season has exciting to watch and I feel we are both been a success. No doubt there are many gaining a growing band of supporters and challenges to come in the next few months, a reputation within football for our positive but if we continue the way we have to date approach. we will be in a very strong position to be At the start of the season first team captain challenging for honours come September. Fort-Knightly | 1 Issue 1 | 15 June 2011 WESTMINSTER OLD SCHOLARS’SOCCER CLUB The Fort-Knightly Club News Our recent Ladies Day was a great success with a collection of mums, sisters, girlfriends, wives and groupies coming out to support the Knights in rather cold weather. The club appreciates the efforts made by all the ladies who attended and Andy Warhust, who worked hard to get this initiative off the ground. Hopefully we can do it again in warmer weather. Know Your Knights Name: Daniel Bousfield Position: Striker Nickname/s: The Boose. This one has stuck with me after a mispronunciation of my last name during the CSL presentations last season. Occupation: Freelance Outdoor Education Instructor (rockclimbing, kayaking, bushwalking). Do you follow a strict eating regime before a game? Not so much a strict eating regime, more of a vigorous drinking routine the night before, followed by a healthy breakfast of course. I am also very superstitious when it comes to the shower before the game. Which professional has modelled his game on yours? Daniel Bous fi eld I believe that Thierry Henry has modelled his game almost identical to that of my own. His speed and ability to finish one on one is uncannily like me. But i think the one thing he has nailed just as well as myself is the way he drifts offside to fool the defense then run back onside before the ball is played to beat the offside trap. FIFA, Buckhunter or the Casino? Buckhunter for sure, you can always find me getting my Triple Buck and Perfect Sites on. You could say that I dabble in FIFA also. Most memorable Westminster goal (yours or one of your teammates)? My first goal for the club is still my most memorable (flukiest). I was running down the wing and whipped in lofted cross to the back post, only for the ball to nestle itself in the top corner.
