Cover Details
The University's block travel insurance scheme will extend to
cover students travelling overseas for up to 6 months on
exchange programmes. This is a basic travel policy, including
cover for emergency medical assistance – it does not provide
cover for routine medical treatment.
Please note: If you are travelling for more than 6 months, you
should purchase travel insurance for the remaining number of
months, beyond the cover provided by the University.
For EU & EEA countries
The European Health Insurance Card EHIC entitles students to
medical care at a reduced cost, or even free.
However, we do not recommend that you rely solely on this
card but purchase adequate insurance in addition.
For other countries
You will need to arrange personal health insurance. For the US,
Canada and Australia this is obligatory and you will not get a
visa without proof of this. Most universities will require you to
join their scheme.

Type of Funding
Erasmus Grant – funding from the European
Commission to stimulate student mobility.
Students attending universities within the Erasmus
mobility area can claim a grant to supplement their
living expenses.
Funding can be obtained for study and work
placements in the Erasmus mobility area which form
part of your degree programme. Funding is available
for up to 24 months of mobility however students can
only apply for a total of two grants, eg. one for a study
placement and one for a work placement.
For More Information
You apply through the
university http://www.westminster.ac.
uk/international/studentexchanges/currentstudents/erasmusexchanges/erasmus-grants
Application forms for 201314 will be available at this
link from March 2013.
Eligibility and entitlement for a grant can only be
confirmed once you have submitted an Erasmus grant
application. Application for the grant, as with any grant,
does not equal entitlement to the grant. Final
decisions regarding grant awards is dependent on the
level of funding received and number of applicants.
Final decision for award of grants if applicants exceed
funding rests with the Schools.
Payment of the grant is conditional on a number of
forms being returned by you and these are included on
the grant application form.
