Fall Walk-a-thon
2013 Pledge Sheet
Instructions
The CMS Walk-a-thon will take place on November 6th, 2013.
The Walk-a-thon places fundraising directly in the hands of our children. This year our goal is to
raise $300 per student for our “Build Our Future” campaign. All students will be rewarded for
their hard work and enthusiasm with an ice cream party!
How Does it Work?
Sponsorship is the name of the game! Take the attached pledge sheet and the CMS article to
collect pledges. Children will participate in the Walk-A-thon and walk laps for 20-30 minutes
around the playground during school hours. The more sponsors you have to back your effort,
the more your walk will benefit CMS. For example, if you have one pledge of $2 per lap and you
walk 10 laps, your sponsor will contribute $20 to CMS. If you have 10 different sponsors at $2
per lap, you would collect $200 ($20 from each sponsor)! Sponsors may make a “per lap”
pledge or a “flat” pledge. A flat pledge is when a sponsor chooses to pay a certain amount no
matter how many laps you walk, as long as you walk. All contributions are tax deductible (Tax
ID# 33-0363869) and non-refundable. Parents, please have your children collect pledges from
family, friends, and well-known neighbors. DO NOT let your children go door-to-door alone.
Return your pledge sheet to the office by Friday, October 25th.
On the day of the Walk-a-thon
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Remember, THIS IS NOT A RACE, but a way for you to have
fun and raise money for your school. Walkers will complete their laps on school grounds. CMS
staff will be keeping track of the number of laps each student walks. After the event, Barons
Marketplace has generously sponsored our event providing all the students with fresh fruit and
water.
After the Walk-a-thon
After the walk-a-thon, your pledge sheet will be marked with the number of laps you completed.
The pledge sheet will be returned to you, so that you may go to your sponsors and show them
the number of laps you walked. You may collect cash or checks payable to CMS-PTC. The
cancelled check will serve as receipt for their tax-deductible contribution and is non-refundable.
Anything Else? Yes! In order to increase the fun, every walker will receive a walk-a-thon
T-shirt. Parents are invited to attend the event to cheer on their favorite walkers (details to
follow). In addition, we would like to recognize the students whose efforts are outstanding. The
child with the highest donation $$ amount AND the child with the greatest number of sponsors
will each receive a Certificate of Recognition and their name engraved on our special Walk-athon plaque in the office.
Donations are due to the office by Monday, November 11th
