Department of Natural Resources DIVISION OF GEOLOGICAL & GEOPHYSICAL SURVEYS 3354 College Road Fairbanks, Alaska 99709-3707 Main: 907.451.5010 Fax: 907.451.5050 Geologic Materials Center 18205 Fish Hatchery Road The 108th annual Association of American State Geologists (AASG) meeting will be held at the Eagle River, Alaska 99577-2805 Main: 907.696.0079 Alyeska Hotel in Girdwood, Alaska, June 12–16, 2016. The Association of American State GeolFax: 907.696.0078 ogists is an organization of the past and present chief executives of the state geological surveys This is a test in 50 states and Puerto Rico. The AASG was formed in 1879 to advance the scientific and practical application of geology and related earth sciences in the United States, and to improve methods of assembling and disseminating data and information to the mining, energy, engineering, agriculture, utility, construction, insurance and banking industries, educational institutions, civic and professional organizations, legislators, governmental agencies, and the public. The responsibilities of the various state surveys differ from state to state. While all function as a basic geoscience information source, many have regulatory responsibilities for water, coal, oil and gas, mineral development, land reclamation, geologic hazards, etc. This meeting provides a valuable opportunity to meet one-on-one with members of this influential group, encourage applied research, formulate partnerships, and address issues important to you and your industry. Many of these groups are engaged in industry-specific research, from mining issues to gas hydrates, and from unconventional oil and gas development issues to geologic hazards; the organizations represented by the AASG membership shape the discussion, direct research, and influence, develop, and apply regulations covering a wide array of geology-related activities. Sponsoring this conference provides a unique opportunity to access the leaders of these geoscience organizations, who set the direction for geoscience research in their states and, through long-established and strong ties to federal agencies, influence the direction and priorities of federal geoscience research. In addition to the chief executives of state geological surveys, conference attendees frequently include leaders from related federal agencies. Sponsorship allows you to: • Support an organization representing 50 state agencies whose missions directly support the geoscience industries • Network with leaders who influence, promulgate, or apply regulations • Learn about the latest geoscience issues and topics • Discuss and influence current and future research that could influence your industry • Find organizations with the capabilities to address your research needs We hope you choose to join us. Please contact me to take advantage of the opportunity to sponsor this unique event.
