Then night falls and a thunderstorm suddenly breaks out. As dawn breaks you cross a bridge over the river where the piranha lurk. As you emerge from the rainforest you can see what lives under the surface of the river. In the nearby tanks you'll see the vibrant warning colours of poison arrow frogs. 1 3 2 Poison arrow frogs get their poison from eating poisonous insects. 2 THE MANGROVE Where the river meets the sea you find the mangrove. This brackish water is home to fascinating species of fish like the skilful archerfish. This fish can shoot down insects with great precision with its built-in "water pistol." You'll also meet the four-eyed fish, which can see both below and above the surface at the same time. 3 THE OCEAN Stop a while by our aquarium and admire the ocean life. Encounter corals, anemones, sharks and a host of brilliantly colourful fish. Discover the moray eel guarding his cave and watch the cownose rays float towards you with their wonderful smiles. The reef is where you'll encounter rich colours and amazing shapes of the ocean. Both soft and hard corals live together with many colourful fish, sea cucumbers and the beautiful Tridacna clam. don ' 4 Piranha are inquisitive fish with sharp teeth. So keep your fingers away from the water! 6 In the seahorse family the eggs are carried around by the dad! All clownfish are born as males and some go on to change sex! t miss FEEDING TIME Join our keepers as they feed the animals. That's when you can really get close up! We look forward to your visit! 5 SEWER ADVENTURE Did you know that bamboo sharks don't use their teeth when they eat. They use suction to suck up their prey. Climb down into the sewer and learn about the impact that humans are having on our waters and animal life. Experience the eutrophicated water caused by over-fertilising farmland and the sterile environment caused by acidification of the earth's waters. 5 Starfish can push out their stomachs over dead animals and suck them up! 6 THE NORDIC EXHIBIT 7 Step straight from tropical heat into a cooler landscape with a mountain lake and a rushing stream. You are now in the Nordic exhibit. The mountain lake is home to a shoal of char, while trout from the Baltic Sea make their way up the fish ladder to spawn in our stream. 7 THE FISH LADDER AND THE BALTIC SEA Every hour, 100,000 litres of water are pumped into Aquaria from Nybroviken just outside. The water flows under the bridge out to the salmon ladder on the terrace. In late autumn, full-grown trout come in from the Baltic Sea, jumping up the ladder and into Aquaria to spawn. The largest trout to jump up the ladder weighed over 11 kilos!
