MEHDI BAGHERI CLEAN WATER ENGINEERING - WATERWORKS Predicting the internal corrosion in cast iron drinking water mains. Time 29 DRINKING WATER GOAL • Source waters from all three watersheds serving the lower mainland are naturally corrosive. • Focus of research study was to look at the chemical & physical parameters affecting the corrosion rate of water mains in the City, specifically cast iron. Non-Corrosive water Corrosive water 30 MAIN DELIVERABLES 1. Developing predictive models to assess the water potential for corrosion and iron concentration level 2. Providing a visual user-friendly computational tool to consistently monitor the water corrosivity with minimum input requirement The City can integrate these deliverables to prioritize proactive actions in drinking water mains 31 MODELING SOFTWARE – WATER CORROSION ANALYZER 32 SAMPLE ANALYSIS RESULTS Corrosivity study of the water 71 (Capilano + Seymour + Coquitlam) 68 79 69 75 44 76 69 90 76 88 84 65 81 127 76 27 34 69 69 73 40 City of Vancouver 89 24 35 23 33 34 74 70 36 70 26 408E (34th) 25 38 100 26 Prediction Map 13.1 – 13.6 13.6 – 14.1 14.1 – 14.6 14.6 – 15 Water pressure zones 22 28 Ryznar Corrosivity index (round 2) 12.7 – 13.1 104 74 30 2869W (KE) Exp.
