With its wide variety of activities, events and displays, the fair is always a fun day, enjoyed by visitors of all ages. The Board of Directors and I are pleased to announce that the fairgrounds will be undergoing some improvements this summer, which will make this year's fair better than ever, as well as promoting year-round use by the community. Our thanks go out to the volunteers and other supporters who help ensure that our local fair will continue into the future and be successful. On September 10, I hope to see all of you at the fair! All Jr. Hall, Sr. Hall and Poultry entries must be accompanied by an entry tag. Tags may be obtained in advance from the Directors or they will be available upon arrival at the grounds. 2. Only one entry is allowed per section under each membership except for classes of horses, cattle, sheep, swine, goats, poultry & rabbits. 3. Competition is open to residents of Ontario providing they are the bonafide owners and have had all exhibits entered (except foods) in their possession at least one month before the fair. 4. Any protest of violation of Rules & Regulations or By-Laws of the Society must be made to the Secretary in writing within ten days of the Fair. 5. 10% of the prize money will be retained by the Society for the Maintenance Fund. Membership fees for the following year are also deducted from prize money, providing amount won is sufficient. This does not apply to Jr. Fair. 6. Only persons authorized shall assist the Judges. 7. JUDGES DECISION is FINAL unless rules of the Society are violated. 8. All entries are to be judged before awarding prizes. No entries are allowed to obtain more than one prize unless specified. 9. In the event of two or fewer qualifying entries in a given category, the entries shall be given prizes as DEEMED WORTHY by the Judges. 10. The Directors will take every precaution to ensure the safety of articles sent to the Fair but the owners themselves must take the risk of exhibiting the same should any article be accidentally lost. Directors will give any assistance in their power towards recovery of same, but it should be distinctly understood that no payment will be made for any lost or damaged articles. 11. No trafficking of fruits, goods or merchandise will be allowed within the Fair Grounds without the consent of the Directors. 12. The Society has always paid prize money in full. If at any time receipts are insufficient to cover the full amount, the Society only binds itself to pay on a percentage basis as much of the prize money as is consistent with receipts. 13. A list of winnings must be sent to the Treasurer within 7 days. 14. All prize money to be paid by Oct. 31 unless the board decides otherwise. All cheques must be cashed by December 31 of the current year. 15. No unauthorized horses, ponies or motorized vehicles allowed on the grounds. 16. All booths and displays are to remain until 4:00 p.m. 17. No cheques will be issued for $2.00 or less. HOLDS HARMLESS AGREEMENT When making an entry the Exhibitor shall indemnify and Hold Harmless the SEVERN BRIDGE AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY, their members, agents, and employees from and against all claims, demands, losses, costs damages, actions, suits or proceedings by any third parties that may arise out of, or may attribute to, all operations performed by or carried out by the exhibitor, his agents, employees, or servants, or anyone for whose acts he may be held liable, howsoever caused. 4 143 RD SEVERN BRIDGE FALL FAIR WASHAGO LIONS CLUB TROPHY FOR FAMILY ACHIEVEMENT 1. The purpose of this award is to encourage families to work together for a common goal at Agricultural Fairs, and to provide recognition for their achievements. 2. The award shall be presented to the qualifying family group with the highest number of points at each annual Severn Bridge Fall Fair. 3. The winning family shall keep the trophy until the next fair, when it must be returned to the Secretary seven days prior to the fair, to be put up for competition. 4. A family group shall be two or more people living in the same household. Children must be under 19 years of age to be included in the "group." 5. For every class included in the official prize list, 5 points will be awarded for a first place, 4 points for a second place, 3 points for a third place, 2 points for a fourth place. 6. A family will be responsible for recording its own winnings when judging is completed in all classes. 7. The count sheet, including the name of the members of the family group, shall be delivered to the fair secretary within seven days after the fair. She will check with the official results when necessary and declare the winner. 8. The family must indicate on the count sheet that they wish to be considered for the Trophy. 9. In the event of a tie in points, the winner shall be the family group with the greatest number of first prizes. In the event of a dispute, the decision of the directors of the Fair shall be FINAL. 10. If the award is won by any family three times, a keeper trophy will be presented and the original returned to the Secretary as above. ONCE A FAMILY GROUP HAS WON A KEEPER TROPHY, THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO COMPETE FOR THE AWARD FOR THREE YEARS. BECOME A VOLUNTEER We are always looking for community-spirited people who want to help make the Fair a success. Volunteers are needed not only on Fair Day, but also at various times during the year. Saddle Up NOTE – This year there will be no other competitive livestock classes, only exhibits. 6 143 RD SEVERN BRIDGE FALL FAIR SENIOR HALL Open competition for those 18 years and over Current membership required for all entries. Senior Hall Director: Trudi Killin 705-385-1630 Rules & Regulations: 1. All entries must be the bonafide property of the exhibitor. 2. All the entries to be in the Senior Hall the Friday before Fair. Judging will be held Saturday morning. Hall will be open 3 - 8:30 p.m. Friday before Fair Day. 3. All articles are to be removed from the Hall between 4-6 p.m. on Fair Day. Any person removing articles before 4 p.m. without the authority of the Director in charge will forfeit any premium they may win. 4. The Hall Director and the President have the authority to disqualify entries that do not meet specifications required in the exhibit list. 5. Entries in the Senior Hall may be sold outside after 4:15 p.m. 6. It is the responsibility of winners of all specials to thank donors. 7. No names visible. 8. Judging takes place Saturday morning at 8 a.m. ALL ENTRIES, ALL CLASSES Entries must be in the Hall Friday night before the Fair. Hall is open Friday 3:00 - 8:30 p.m. Guidelines in preparing exhibits: 1. All agricultural entries must be grown by the exhibitor. 2. Be sure to read the Exhibit List and show exactly what it calls for. 3. Corn - Select cobs with straight rows of kernels and prepare a uniform exhibit. Make sure kernels are filled, especially at ends. Remove all husks carefully. 4. Potatoes - Select tubers approx. 250 grams/9 oz. in weight, free from disease or injury, correct size or type for variety, uniform in size & smooth as possible. Not washed, but dirt brushed off with a soft brush. 5. Beets - About 2" to 2½" in diameter (5-7 cm), free from sunburn and side roots, dark in colour, round and uniform in size and shape. Tops cut to ½" long. Should be rinsed but not scrubbed. 6. Carrots - Should be uniform in size and shape and free from blemishes. Should be rinsed but not scrubbed. 7. Cucumbers - Well matched, straight, 6" (15 cm) or over. Ripe cucumbers should be dark green. 8. Onions - Should be well matured, uniform, dry and firm. Do not peel. 9. Squash - Well matured (hard), uniform colour, minimum light colour on underside. Stems should be attached. 10. Tomatoes - At least 3¼" diameter, smooth, uniform colour. 11. Cabbage - Solid, fresh, crisp and tender. Stem trimmed to no longer than ½", head with 2 layers of sound green outer leaves. 12. All handmade articles (sewing, knitting, etc.) must be free from odours (e.g. smoke, mothballs, mold) or they will be subject to disqualification. 143 RD SEVERN BRIDGE FALL FAIR 7 SR. HALL – PRODUCE PIONEER HANDCRAFT SILVER TRAY AWARD The Pioneer Handcraft Silver Tray is awarded for the highest points in the Domestic Sciences. To be eligible, an exhibitor must have at least one entry in a minimum of 6 classes in the Senior Hall. The individual is requested to indicate interest on the winning list which must be sent to the Secretary within 7 days of the Fair. ROBINSON HAULAGE AWARD A prize of $50.00 will be awarded to the person with the most entries overall in the Senior categories (excluding Class 19). Despite his recent passing, the tradition of this special award will continue this year – and in years to come – as a tribute to Charlie Lippert. Charlie and his wife Maude have been long-time sponsors of the Severn Bridge Fall Fair and we appreciate their generous support. 143 RD SEVERN BRIDGE FALL FAIR 9 SR. HALL – BAKING SPECIALS BAKING SPECIALS PIONEER HANDCRAFT BAKING SPECIAL The person with the most points in the baking section will be presented with a Pioneer Handcraft rolling pin with plaque to keep. COUNTRY FAIR BAKING CONTESTS Terms and Conditions All entrants into the contests must submit entries that were made using the sponsor's product. This contest is open to all legal residents of Canada of legal age, in accordance with the laws of the Province in which the contest is located. No entrant, nor any member of an entrant’s immediate family or household, can be an employee of the contest sponsor(s), its/their advertising and promotional agencies and contest judges. All entries will be judged on appearance, texture, creativity of recipe and presentation, weighted equally. Decision of the fair judge(s) will be final. No proof of purchase is required. First and second place winners’ name and address must be submitted. All first place winners must submit recipe, photograph and signed release form giving permission to the sponsors for use of the winner's name, recipe and/or photograph in any other advertising or publicity without payment. The fairs will send to C.F.B. the signed release forms, recipes and photo for the first place winners along with a list of all the names and addresses for 2nd place winners where applicable. C.F.B. contests will reimburse each fair for cash winnings up to a maximum of $15.00 per fair upon receipt of winners signed declaration form from fair convenor. The fair is responsible for distribution of prizes to individual winners. Product certificate gift prizes, banners, prize ribbons & other promotional giveaways will be sent 2 weeks prior to the start of the fair in our fair contest kit. National contest prizes will be sent directly to the winner. All submissions for reimbursement must be received by C.F.B. no later than November 3, 2016. HALL – CANNING SPECIALS BERNARDIN SPECIALS 2016 HOME CANNING AWARDS Guidelines and Prizes To qualify for Bernardin prizes, all winning competition entries – home canned foods – must be submitted in Bernardin mason jars with properly sealed two-piece metal SNAP-Lids (as proof of purchase). Unsealed jars, items with lug caps or wax seals are unacceptable. Mason jars are specifically designed for home canning. HALL – SEWING PLEASE NOTE – Beginning in 2011, District 11 Agricultural Societies have implemented a new rule regarding handmade articles such as knitting, sewing and other crafts. These items must be free from all odours (e.g. smoke, mothballs) that might be transferred to other entries. If not, they will be subject to disqualification from the competition. CLASS 13 – SEWING - QUILT Prizes: $15.00, $12.00, $10.00 No quilts from kits unless specified. All quilting to be done from one family and to be hand quilted unless specified. All sewn articles to be shown with a sample of material approximately 3" x 3". Pre-quilted fabric does not qualify in this class. Articles must be unused and completed in the last 12 months. Section: 1. Appliqué quilt - at least 72" x 90" 2. Pieced quilt - at least 72" x 90" 3. Quilt - combination of 2 or more techniques, at least 72" x 90" 4. Quilt for single bed - any method 5. Crib quilt - any method 6. Any other quilt not listed - any method 7. Quilt - machine quilted, at least 72" x 90" Both a Champion hand-quilted and a machine quilt will be selected according to OAAS Rules. Quilt must measure at least 324" around the perimeter to be eligible. Contact Senior Hall Director for additional rules. Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies Annual Championship Quilt Competitions General Conditions Entries must be solely made and hand quilted by a group or individual or machine quilted by an individual and exhibited and judged at a local Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS) Fair to be eligible for this competition. Entry quilts must be a minimum of 324" measured on the perimeter. (Smaller quilts will not be eligible to proceed to the next levels of competition.) Judging will occur at local fairs and district levels. A provincial Grand Champion Quilt will be selected at the annual convention of OAAS. Upon making an entry into the OAAS Quilt competition, the Exhibitor agrees to participate in any promotional activities related to the competition. Winner's name to be displayed at the Fair on sign provided by OAAS. The quilt must not be quilted using a long arm machine and must be machine quilted by the exhibitor, not a professional.
