Baja California
RV parks and camping spots
– Tijuana to Cabo San Lucas
Baja California
RV parks and camping spots
This collection of RV parks and camping spots is based on
the amazing amount of information compiled by Bill and Dorothy Bell in a customized Google map. This map links to even
more information on their website: Ontheroadin.com.
In addition to the location and basic information about each
site, I find the photos that Bill and Dorothy have taken of
the sites to be very useful. They really are worth a thousand
words.
This document is organized more or less geographically. It
runs south from Tijuana to Los Cabos, with a few side trips. It
does not cover Mexicali to San Felipe. If that’s where you’re
going, please check the links above.
Things change fast in today’s world. If you’re planning a long
day’s drive to get to a particular RV park or camping spot just
before dark, make sure you have a back-up plan in case it’s
full or closed.
Enjoy your trip!

On a Beach RV Park on the Sea of Cortez.
All of the water spots have been taken up by permanent campers. If you want to camp with a view
insist on camping to the far right in front of the motel rooms. Here you will get a view but no hookups.
Guillermo’s needs some TLC for the non-resident campers. The washrooms need to be renovated
and require better maintenance. Many of the spots lack good wiring or other connections.
Water is always an issue and you must stock up for the occasional run of city water - usually once a
week. Otherwise you must fill up buckets from a shower and fill your tanks manually. Other things
seem far more important here than day-use camping.
Fishing, the restaurant and store are going concerns and appear to be the owners priority

Good stop while in town. We always seem to stop here - probably because we want to have a drink

This campsite is located right at the major birthing lagoon for the grey whales. It is quite isolated and
can be a bit lonely. Often it is flooded so go early before dark so you can ensure this is where you
want to stay. The area has lots of birds and wild life and is a great place to take picture after picture.
Boat tours: Scammon’s Lagoon offers boat tours out into the lagoon. You cannot launch your own
boat in these protected waters. The tours last about 1 1/2 hours and are probably one of the best
values you can have for a tour...last time we checked -$30 . A bargain.
Bring your camera! You get to see whale after whale. Some bob along the water and others dive
straight up into the air with their noses aimed at the sky- then sink vertically back down into the
waters. Slowly. Meticulously.
Occasionally you will come across some “friendlies” that allow/want you to pet them. It is truly
amazing and an opportunity you shouldn’t miss. Even if you don’t camp here, the whale boat tours
are worth the drive and money. This will be something you will remember for the rest of your life.

Agua Caliente
– From capitolsouthbound.com Our favorite non-beach campsite, located in the interior of the East
Cape. Another boondocking spot (see the trend?), the Agua Caliente camp area sits in a striking
canyon, complete with a hot spring fed pool, and a hiking trail that leads to plunge pools and waterfalls.

Low key Camping. Close to a beach, these sandy/dirt spots are ideal for those that want peace and
quiet. Slightly isolated but great for tranquility.
Lots of shade trees.
Getting there
Directions: From Highway 1 South of La Paz at KM 92 turn on the La Ribera turnoff to the
East. Drive 12 kms to the town and then turn North a few blocks. Signed.

Los Frailes
– From capitolsouthbound.com On the East Cape, as the southeast portion of lower Baja is known,
Frailes is a boondocking (free camping) beach with beautiful scenery. There is a fish camp on one
end of the beach, so there is no shortage of seafood, but it is otherwise fairly isolated. We were
awoken one morning by the splashes of schools of manta rays jumping into the air, perhaps 15 feet
from shore.

This is a very clean and RV park that is close to Cabo. In fact you can just walk outside the walls to
the highway and take a walk, or catch a cab or collective van to town. Many permanent RV’s make
this RV Park their home year round. No wonder as the place is spotless and has everything you need
- even internet at the office. ( 3 lines - DSL $3 per half hour) Excellent management.
Misc Comments:
