Application Process
The successful candidate will be offered
a multiyear contract. The salary will be
regionally competitive and commensurate
with experience and qualifications. A
comprehensive benefits package is included.
Nominations of and applications by qualified
candidates are encouraged. Candidates must complete
and maintain an online dossier of application materials.

time for any advertised OSBA opening.

The application process consists of completing the

uploaded when completing the application:
l a letter of interest emphasizing qualifications and
reasons for interest;
l an up-to-date résumé;
l the necessary Ohio certifications, licenses,
credentials and transcripts;
l at least five OSBA Reference Forms, available on
the OSBA website.

application dossier.

The Search
The Waterloo Local School District Board
of Education is seeking qualified applicants
for the position of superintendent. The
successful candidate will replace Matthew
L. Montgomery, who has served as
superintendent since July 2013. Steve Horton,
school board services consultant at OSBA, is
assisting the board with its search.
The District
The Waterloo Local School District is a
consolidation of Atwater and Randolph
townships in Portage County and serves
students in grades kindergarten through
12. Its mission statement — Waterloo Local
School District, in cooperation with our families
and community, cultivates academic excellence
through high quality instruction and experiencebased learning connecting students’ lives to their
futures — conveys the district’s commitment
to work tactfully, creatively and visibly with
school board members, administrators, staff,
students, parents, the community and state
elected officials.

The district, who’s mascot is the Vikings,
operates in a unified upgraded campus that
is the result of passing a bond issue and
maintenance levy in 2000. The elementary
building serves students from kindergarten
through fifth grade. Students in grades six
through eight attend the middle school and
grades nine through 12 attend the high school.
The Waterloo Local School District is
committed to working with each student
through a comprehensive curriculum that
includes an online digital academy. Students
also are offered career training at the
Maplewood Career Center.
The Community
The district is ideally located south of
Cleveland, between Akron and Youngstown.
It is known for a quiet rural lifestyle and
has recently become a popular location for a
white-collar professional community.
This beautiful area of the state features
wonderful recreational areas at the West
Branch State Park and Berlin Reservoir. It
also is home to the annual Portage County
Randolph Fair. There are many opportunities
for higher education within an easy driving
distance such as University of Akron,
University of Mount Union, Kent State

Qualifications
A superintendent license is preferred and
the successful candidate should have strong
building-level and central office administrative
experience. A willingness to live within a
reasonable distance to the Waterloo area
and be visible and active in the community
is preferred. In addition this person must
demonstrate:

superintendent relations.

Excellent speaking and listening skills and
an ability to instill trust in the community
and staff at all levels.

The ability to work as an articulate,
straightforward communicator with strong
interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability
